I feel like with the exception of Matthews and maybe mcdavid every player in the nhl has holes in their game.

wpg fans are likely looking at the future as pld, and saying the same thing we did in 18, move things now before we get stuck.
McDavid isn't good defensively either so I guess people in here wouldn't take him.

Defense is not an issue with this team. Scoring goals 5v5 is.

You are only looking at goals and assists. Go to the Winnipeg board and take a look at what they think. Winnipeg wants to deal MS so they have cap space to sign AC. Not rocket science. You don’t put your 1C up to sign a middle six C unless something is rotten. 1C don’t become available unless something very weird is going on. Scheifele is a sports center player. He flashes highlights and will put points up but there are some holes in his game and he has had some bad injuries. I’m staying away.

I know a lot of people in the WPG and have never heard a single complaint about Scheifele's compete. He's loved there - sometimes things run their course and if there window is closing - he is their one major asset to jump start a retool and build around PLD/Connor, Ehlers etc. His defensive game is becoming a scapegoat - not without cause - it hasn't been his best season.. same can be said for many players on their team and Helleybuck.

Even MS suspension was on a hustle play - 5-10 years ago MS's hit is a hockey play - in today's day and age it was 1-1.5 seconds late and resulted in a suspension - if he gets there before the guy gets around the net and saves a goal - people are praising him - that's a very fine line.

He may not be perfect - but the guy fits the bill for adding elite talent at a perfect cap hit for the Rangers current window. He also has the potential to extend into the next one.

It's tough to find a better fit - save for a center on his ELC becoming available - and immediately making an impact (which let's be real - does not happen often).

Change of the old guard. Wheeler is aging out, Maurice is gone. Scheifele going full methhead on Evans last playoffs was not a good look in my book. I'm staying away too.

If you had to ask an outsider what the Rangers problems are right now, what would they say?

Is it, keeping the puck out of the net? Team defense?

Or is it this team has trouble generating offense 5v5?

Scheifele helps the Rangers actual issues tremendously.

I mean even the Rangers didn’t deal their 1C/Face of the Franchise in 2018. There’s a difference

It's systemic. One more offense only player won't change that.

Zibanejad was 25.. 3 years younger - the better comparison at that point is PLD - he was not 28. Scheifele is essentially their McDonagh.

This is true, although I would say that the issues with the lack of any offensive production from the 3rd line, guys who primarily play 5v5 and not PP, is actually a similar issue that could be addressed for less. If Drry can find a way to build a competent 3rd line who can provide offense I think the team's 5v5 numbers would look better. I mean Chytil, Gauthier, Hunt, even Lafreniere when he was playing there and Goodrow when he is on that line have provided not much. There is little cohesion in that grouping.

that's a strucutral or execution issue. Not a personnel.

Yes, we can use another top9 player but to say it's the only reason we're struggling 5v5 is wrong imo. Panarin was dominating 5v5 with similar linemates 2 years ago.

I'd pay a small fortune to get Colton Sissons on this team but Nashville would be mad to trade him.

Have to think Cody Glass could be had for the right price, however.
Why more 21 year olds? What part of anything in the last year says they're gonna go after MORE kids?

I agree with this, and I have made this point, but I still feel like he would help to solve the problem. Gallant isn't going to change what he's doing out there so at least get some better offensive players.

I really don't think the latter sat well with Dolan at all. That situation should've never happened with a team that's not doing anything anyway.
We asked hank where he wanted to go. He didn’t wanna move.
We were blocked in w cap because of the buyouts from bad moves.
We had signed Trouba and Panarin, and needed cap. No one was helping us out of our cap hell.
But wpg has an opportunity to move ms and get a solid return and look at the future with pld as the 1c. Seems like a no brainer to me with them looking on the outside of the playoff bubble.

Scheifele would be 3rd on our team in FO % (Excluding Barron due to small sample size)

JT Miller would be 1st. Among centers anyway. Kreider is getting it done in the circle, lol.

I mean, if you would've told me three years ago that, in early 2022, you can trade for either JT Miller or Scheifele but you have to choose now, would anyone have taken JT Miller?

I mean, I don't want either but I want Scheifele decidedly less than Miller if I had to choose.

I'm not sure acquiring Scheifele is the right thing to do, but there is something to be said for being able to trade for someone like him who you have for just a couple seasons with the ability to maintain flexibility with the roster as opposed to signing Strome and being locked in to this team long-term without much maneuverability, and with a core that is older. Depending on the assets it might be worth it.

Ideally you get someone who's younger and cheap you don't have to worry too much about the decline phase but what's ideal isnt always available.

Yeah, I'm not going to re-litigate all that. Hank, to me, earned the choice to stay and retire a Ranger or move along and he made his choice. It's not his fault that Gorton & Co. were constantly buying out people to erase mistakes or simply not giving certain players a long enough leash or being patient enough. It's part of why the house was cleaned, so to speak.

Pressure from Dolan aside I’m hoping Drury sees this as a ten year double window rather than one five year window with the current vet core

Just looking poking around cap friendly. Could Nick Schmaltz be someone the NYR take a run at? TBH I don't know enough about him besides his box stats. They look pretty good on an abysmal Arz team. He's signed long term at a cap hit NYR can afford next season, esp if Strome is pricing himself out.

And I’m saying had hank not had a nmc he’d have been a rumor just like MS is now.

It's no where near as bad as our offense but 5v5 defense is an issue.... but we have an equalizer.

We are really bad at defending/attacking the middle of the ice. After watching Carolina and FLA last night, they fight for every inch, stand up in the NZ/Blueline and are always attacking.
