I think this is pretty accurate. Barron has far more potential than McKegg. There is little question of that. However, Barron does seem to get lost on D a bit more than McKegg. McKegg is where offense goes to die. He is adequate on D. I doubt Gallant loves McKegg, but he seems to believe that he can at least not be a massive defensive liability. He would probably prefer to use Barron if he thought he could trust him on D. I also do think there is something to sending Drury a message as well. Basically, in my eyes, the biggest problem is that Barron has not played in a way that has forced Gallant to permanently shelf McKegg. I think this is more on Barron getting his D game together more than anything else. McKegg is not long for this team, regardless. He is really just the light that exposes the darkness of the Rangers NHL ready prospect depth. He presumably sees him every day, or at least his assistants do. You kinda gotta give them the benefit of the doubt.
In limited viewings I felt like Barron got lost defensively a fair amount more than he should. It's usually something like that.
