Goodrow still in the dog house. Glad to see Gallant doesn’t give even the vets leeway when they’re having a tough stretch.

Ideally, I’d swap Hunt / Gaut and McKegg / Goodrow. Barron in for McKegg…
IMO Barron is better than all of them but somehow Gallant doesn't like him.

There's literally nothing McKegg can do better than Barron.

Honestly, the McKegg crap really screams to me of Gallant sending a message to Drury that he needs some reinforcements.

Either way, McKegg is not going to get 3rd line minutes as we think of them. Probably will be very little difference in 5v5 ice time between the 3rd and 4th line and Goodrow who is on the 4th line will 100% get more ice time than McKegg.

Gallant has been sending messages that he needs more players all year. Drury seems to like the patient approach but soon these teams will start admitting defeat and they’ll make a couple moves

I don't know. Hasn't even attempted to give Barron a fair shake.

Crouse isn’t a C, but I could see him having a Bennett-like breakout in a better situation than Arizona
Bennett like breakouts happen almost never. Crouse is probably topping out right now as a rich mans Gauthier.

He presumably sees him every day, or at least his assistants do. You kinda gotta give them the benefit of the doubt.

In limited viewings I felt like Barron got lost defensively a fair amount more than he should. It's usually something like that.

I remember a rumored trade that the Rangers wanted to move up to 4 for Tkachuk. Man what could’ve been
For everyone railing at Quinn and his ruining of everything, he would have moved heaven and earth for Tkachuk and ended up with an ice-cold coca cola at the end of the day.

Would’ve been the first tangible positive thing he did for us

If you compare the Rangers piece by piece to a team like Carolina, the area where we consistently don't match up is secondary scoring. That's really the only thing setting this roster apart from a team like the Hurricanes. They're getting consistent offense from 3, sometimes 4 lines.

The best way to fix that is to have Chytil and Kakko take steps forward, OR make a trade.

I thought the exact opposite. He didn't show much offensively but he was doing all the little things well in the defensive zone and go the puck out

I don't buy the "not in shape," narrative so much since I watched him play in the preseason. He may not have been in ideal shape but it was ok.

So that being said, yes. If it was down to him bolting or not.

If it "sends the wrong message," and a bunch of other kids start misbehaving then you can swap back to a hard line approach. But I don't think it would. Again, you wink wink nudge nudge someone like Reaves and tell him to toughen the kid up.

And that's his main problem, he's an entitled brat. How do you not report for camp in the best shape of your life?

I dislike putting this out there, because I have always personally disliked the player, but I could see Domi checking a lot of boxes for the Rangers.

Can play W/C, has a physical edge, draft pedigree, NYR ties. Can help them get a bulk deal on insulin. Having a bit of a down year but still producing ok on the whole, few years removed from some good production in Montreal.

Almost like the store brand JT Miller.

to me it screams he is not interested in developing young players, he wants players loyal to him.

I agree on the first part that if Igor goes down, the backup wont matter for this squad.

But I disagree on the latter in that if you can find a desperate team willing to give up a 2nd rounder or a decent prospect for Georgiev and then get someone like Martin Jones on the very cheap then it might makes sense. However, I dont like Jones at all and he might not be much of an upgrade to Kinkaid other than making sure you have 3 goalies.

I have no problem moving Georgiev if you can get something but I'd rather keep Kinkaid than pay a penny for Jones.

It could also be though why our guys are slow to produce. Chytil started playing with Panarin and Strome, even while banged up, and he looked good. He’s playing with two guys that wouldn’t even be in contending teams’ lineups. You drafted two guys that high, Laf and Kakko, because of their skill sets. Burying them to elevate career depth players is ridiculous.

I agree in theory, but if Kakko wasn't the 2nd pick in the draft and was instead a 5th rounder, most here would be screaming to dump him.

When given the chance, he has been horribly disappointing so far, especially in his rookie season. By some metrics he was the worst player in the entire NHL, that year.

The real issue is that the West is still open for movement. The East is pretty much decided, but the Blue Jackets (who are red hot), Red Wings, and Islanders will hold on as long as they can. The first two since they're rebuilding, but aren't lacking young players that need to be insulated. The Islanders aren't making moves yet since they probably think they owe it to themselves to see if they can make a miraculous run. I think Ottawa holds on to players for a little while longer too since they've actually being playing well and need to sell their fans on improvement.

Some teams don't have rentals really. Chicago doesn't really have anything of interest. Buffalo, I don't see much. Philly is Giroux and their defense, so maybe just a depth move there for defense.

With the Rangers needs being guys that can play on their 3rd line (or potentially slot next to Strome/Panarin), I think they are somewhat limited to a few teams to fill those spots. Arizona, Montreal, and Seattle are the only teams I can see right now that would be ready for deals. I'd really like any of the Seattle guys that could be had for a 3rd line role. Jarnkrok, Johansson, and Blackwell. Lehkonen is ideal from Montreal. Kessel is the only player in Arizona that fits the agenda. Unless some of these bubble teams pack it in, those are the targets. I think Drury waiting is wise. They're solidly in a playoff spot. Wait it out and see what shakes free in a few weeks.

You believe that management made it up about his lack of conditioning?

To gain what?

For the same reason they didn't keep tuch, fleury, and Schmidt and will probably move on from Smith and or karlson this summer: cap

Are you actually suggesting that any player that is moved can't be a quality player?

Are you actually comparing trading a player to acquire Eichel to letting a player that didn't dress in the playoffs walk?
