So, should management have said to Kravtsov even though you're not in shape you can stay on the NHL roster?
It’s also telling him over and over he needed to get stronger and bulk up. He comes off as a stubborn kid. You talk about a guy like Drury that was constantly in the gym and took after the guys he played with, Sakic, Foote, etc. There’s a reason he’s won at everything he’s done. He sees something with the kid he doesn’t like. Then I keep up with him and you never ever see this kid, on social media, posting himself in the gym or anything. You can laugh and say why should that matter? Well then you see pics of him and you can tell he hasn’t put on any weight since probably he was last playing here under Quinn. He hasn’t played much hockey during the new year because of Covid and other reasons, yet he’s riding a motorcycle yesterday while filming himself while holding his phone up to his face. Was he driving and doing that? Who knows, but it just bugs me that people act like Drury is some abuser and is targeting this kid. He probably sees how great he can be and how he couldn’t care less to work. Bolting twice does speak volumes about work ethic and character. Playoffs start March 3rd for him. Going to be real interested in seeing how he looks and plays.

Randomly, Barry Beck lived in my neighborhood growing up. Used to see him occasionally and of course his signed picture was hanging in the local diner - which of course is long gone.

Beck was vastly underappreciated as a Ranger until an Islander wrecked his shoulder. Can't remember who. Nystrom? Morrow?

If the rangers are trading a bunch of assets for a trade it HAS to be someone who will be here longer than a year and a half.

The rangers have the pieces to put together a huge package for a good center, with term, and salary retention to help him fit.

Picture like a Ryan Johansson or Stamkos at 50% retention type situation.

I don’t think we should blow our cupboard up for anything less than 3 and a half cost controlled years in whatever forward we trade for.

No interest in either Johansson or Stamkos.

Is Johansson better than Strome?

Stamkos breaks down as often as any NHL player.

Blackwell skating on a Kraken team’s depleted fourth line. Not even top-6 here. Quinn had him playing second line over Kakko and Laf. Gorton and Davidson approved, of course, yet Drury gets trolled constantly. It…doesn’t make sense. Jacques Martin let go and Gord Murphy promoted, better defensive structure. Sure, Igor being as good helps, but one can’t question how much better they’ve been in comparison to last year.

Kakko may become a very good player but when you can be in a top 6 role with linemates scoring and you can go 20 games without a goal, Blackwell doesn't look all that bad.

Not saying playing Blackwell over Kakko was the right choice, but Kakko hasn't made it into an absurd choice, yet.

I know I’m going to get heat for this but I don’t care. Sign me up for Nic Deslauriers as a cheap 4th line rental. Imagine Reaves on one side and Deslauriers on the other hunting the defense down and wearing them out. I know people are gonna give me shit and say the team already has one useless goon blah blah blah. But the reality is, the playoffs are a war, you send 2 heat seeking missiles out there and it’s gonna wear down the opposing d over a series. The 4th line is a checking grinding line, and yeah the occasional goal here and there. If the Rangers fail to score in the playoffs that’s on the top 6 stars, not the 4th line. This isn’t about fighting and gooning it up. I mean, it’s better than future NYR assistant developer McKegg out there. Deslauriers does have 8 points so far this year.

Heat.

Reaves hardly saw ice time in the playoffs with Vegas and he's older, now.

Rangers will be pinned in their own end quite often when Reaves is on the ice.

I just think with the flat cap he’ll get less. Copp isn’t as consistent as a scorer, isn’t considered to play as good d, and played a less prominent role in his teams playoff runs

I look at Copp as a late bloomer.

Being able to get someone with 40-50 point capabilities and play a physical style while being very responsible defensively for nothing but money gets GMs spending stupidly.

Teams that are looking ahead 2+ years down the line will give him good money today knowing it will be less than market value then.

We had Ryan Martin and Steve Eminger scouting the Flyers - Blues last night according to the tweet he's responding to there, which I find more interesting.

Our Assistant GM and one of our head pro scouts in attendance. Blues won't be selling. Flyers will be.

Flyers pending FAs:

Claude Giroux
Justin Braun
Kevin Connauton
Keith Yandle
Zack MacEwan

In net was Martin Jones, who Brooks noted could be a target if we find a new home for Georgiev. I wonder who we were taking a look at?

I would rather have Deslauriers than Reaves. Reaves has gone soft and looks like he is here for a retirement package. He obviously isn't here for his hockey skills and I dont really see him being the sheriff like he once was. I can only remember 2 fights he has been in all year. One was against a rookie trying to prove himself and the other was Macdermid who got the better of Reaves. Plus he is signed for almost 2 mill....why? Deslauriers probably cost a mill next year and is probably the better player now.

Giroux would be a perfect fit for us, but I think the odds of that happening are slim.

I think you’re on to something with Martin Jones. Just piecing the puzzle together…Edmonton has been linked to Georgiev for a while now and their AHL team has lost a couple defensemen. I could see them trying to fill that depth out with Tinordi as a throw in to the bigger Georgiev deal.

Don't see what difference backup goalie means on the Rangers. If Shesterkin goes down, they're toast. Might as well keep Georgiev or Kinkaid rather than giving up anything for Jones.

Rangers play the Blues twice in relatively short order soon. Was more likely for that. But you never know.

I agree on the first part that if Igor goes down, the backup wont matter for this squad.

But I disagree on the latter in that if you can find a desperate team willing to give up a 2nd rounder or a decent prospect for Georgiev and then get someone like Martin Jones on the very cheap then it might makes sense. However, I dont like Jones at all and he might not be much of an upgrade to Kinkaid other than making sure you have 3 goalies.

Agreed, our record against playoff teams with Geo in net stands for itself. We'd be lucky af to win round 1 with Geo in net and would not stand a chance thereafter. But if we can swindle some team to give up more for Geo than we'd have to for Jones, why not?

Tinordi is the type of guy that could be included in a Georgiev deal for Koskinen. The deal could conceivably be:

Georgiev at 50% + Tinordi for Koskinen + _______

It helps the Rangers cap situation next year and moves Tinordi to somewhere he may play more. He can't be ecstatic about consistently playing in the AHL.

The vets are not buying in on that type of hockey either because they do not like it, or are incapable of maintaining that for extended periods of time.

I think it's a combination of both.

We are not going to see that sort of hockey from Mika, Strome, Kreider or Panarin and with those guys setting the tone for the youngsters, the result we are gonna see is that we won't get it from Lafreniere or Kakko either.

Strome has to go and extending Mika was a bad idea as well.

I do not like the leadership at the forward position and that includes Kreider.
I agree on this...it is a concern . I advocate for a Josh Anderson . He has a good contract with term at 5 ? years left at 5.5 . He would add a different dynamic and pave the way for a Kreider trade next season possibly . I would move CK to 3rd line and have Anderson slot in at the 2hole on left side although I think...but am unsure that he can play the right side . Regardless...he makes us a better playoff club instantly . Big and has attitude . Maybe Hab absorb half his salary if we add Kravs . For the main deal he likely will cost us a Lundkvist/ Cuylee/Gauthier or Blais /2nd....too much ????

I also would check on adding Engvall from the Leafs for Hajek/3rd rounder . Center/forward depth with offensive upside as he is buried in TO . Both trades improve us without too much taken away from our team at the moment .

Oh, joy, it's the pre-game scouting list time of the season.

There's an obvious connection between Drury and Briere, but I don't think the Rangers will be in on Giroux unless Claude explicitly wants to stay near his family. Rangers have a lot of home games left to close out the year, so he'd be able to stay relatively close to Philly until the end of the season.

The other obvious fits on PHI are bringing Brassard back in for C depth or trying to get someone like Gerry Mayhew for some bottom-6 stability.
