Perhaps in the past this was true. Quinn did not let the leadership dynamic in the room develop and prosper. He did not have the skill to develop that part of the team.

Carolina has an unquestionably strong room.

The beauty of Gallant as a coach is that he understands the locker room leadership dynamic and helps shape the culture. He is really good at that. Really good. X’s and O’s perhaps not so much. Where the Gallant/Vegas dynamic started to fall apart was when the management didn’t feel that way and started to ship out “his guys”. That shouldn’t be a problem here for the short term.
The fact that they went into the season clamoring there will be a Captain and then realize there really isn't one on the team.... I still think a vocal leader is needed.

add Gourde and Gio. Gourde w/ $1M retention (assumption would be Chytil is in the deal)
add Lehkonen

Kreider Zibs Laffy
Panarin Strome/Gourde
Lehkonen Goodrow Kakko - matchup line

Lindgren Fox
KAM Trouba
Gio Schneider

Gourde the longer term option for Panarin
Kakko gets his fellow Finn and he can drive that line while also shutting down opposing teams top units
Gio can help with leadership and fill in where needed

I wish we could add Gourde. Really do. Just dont see it happening.

Dream would be Scheifele, Gourde, and Giordano. Money retained on Gourde and/or Scheifele. Even if it is $1 million each.

Ride out the year and let Strome walk in the offseason.

Would Lucas Wallmark be a good offseason target? Not that old. Was playing well for Carolina just 2 years ago. He is over in Sweden and represented them during the Olympics.

Dzingle hasn't really played well in the last few seasons. Could be due to the teams he played on.

Yeah but it's a zero risk move. Given McKegg's spot on the 4th line, I say go for it.

Also to RGY- sure, NYR should be scouring both Europe and the NCAA for potential guys who can step in on the 3rd and 4th lines for cheap next year. It's too bad Shipachyov and Gallant had friction because he's probably a 2C at this level, too.

Jones?

There are going to be a lot of sellers at the deadline. The top 8 in the East are pretty much locked in. Detriot is 8pts out but Boston had 2 games in hand. Even if the Islanders win their 5 games in hand on Boston, they would still be 8pts out.

In the West there is still a race going on with the Oilers, Vegas, Nashville, LA (all currently in the playoffs), Anaheim and Dallas all within 4pts of each other (Dallas also has 2 games in hand). Winnipeg and Vancouver are both within striking distance but Vancouver has the most games played at 51.

Sharks (in my opinion), Hawks, Yotes and Kraken are done. 12 sellers right there as of today. Within another week or 2 likely 2 of the 4 teams I listed as still being in it will be out based on head to head games in that time period.

Should be a buyers market.
Especially with the late trade deadline!

You know we have been taught that you take the best player available and you can trade strengths for weaknesses later. None of the other 31 teams wanna do that. Makes me think we draft 7 centers this year.:banghead:

Who was this teacher? What the hell are you talking about?

I think Kreider ages well...he does not do much on 5 on 5 play to hurt himself these days considering his size and speed and with his size and conditioning he'll be OK . I also have doubts on Mika...but it is what it is and if we have to eat the last two years so be it . It is pretty well an accepted fate these days in the NHL. The players hold the hammer in contract negotiations most times . Panarin it looks like has already slowed down . His talent will earn him some points but overall ....his play at 5 on 5 will be less than desirable long term I think .
Some of you guys could bring posters to the game stating “ Mika must eat meat”!
