Easy to say in hindsight. He could’ve come here, put up 3 points, and walked as a UFA. There was no guarantee he was even going to be a quality 3C. I would’ve been lukewarm on the trade at the time. Obviously, in hindsight, it’s a no brainer.

he just turned 25, he would have been a RFA, not a UFA. At worst he would have been a bottom 6 fixture that was physical, can score a little, and win face offs...
There weren’t many who thought he’d be playing like he is now, but that chance was also a possibility.
With all the youth/picks we had stock piled there was no reason to not take a shot with bennett

Blais would’ve been a hell of a player and fit for this team this year had he not gotten hurt. They got back a 25 year old roster player with upside and the ability to put guys through the glass, as well, and a second round pick. Sounds like Drury took that over the magic beans offers of low prospect and a 1st. I have no problem with that trade. Looks worse on paper because they basically got 14 games of Blais and that’s it. Wait until next year. In the meantime, they have a lot of ammunition to go grab a guy.

Very little, if anything of what Drury has done, has given me any hope for this organization’s future, but I Know he won’t let it ruin his weekend.
Yep, firing that diet Mike Sullivan that Davidson and Gorton were planning to keep around, hiring Gallant, signing Goodrow, a two time champ and versatile piece, Reaves brought in to establish a tougher, thick-skinned personality for the team, 31-13-5, must suck. Takes over one off-season, he sucks!

Parts of a season. Yeah, short leash I guess.

You’re right, I changed my mind. He’s amazing! (Sarcasm)

Yeah. Gallant is the coach and NYR are over achieving on the bottom line: winning. He may not be a great coach, but overall the team seems to be getting the results a great coach would get with this lineup.
Fans saying Gallant sucks seems totally based on him not playing the players or line combinations the fans in question want him too. Or the team not playing every facet of the game the way the fans, in their infinite wisdom, believe they should. It’s totally arbitrary and subjective. Meanwhile some journalists are talking about him for the Adams trophy… also subjective.
Bottom line is he may be great, or may suck, depending on your OPINION, but the team is ahead of predictions and Gallant was probably the best available option. If not the best option then a more than reasonable one.

Yes but also Blais is injury prone and has never played more than 40 games in a season. For the kind of player he is, at the age he is, that's a gamble.

I maintain to this day that if we wanted a gritdude from STL it should've been Sanford or Kostin. Though the latter likely wasnt available.

Here’s a name I haven’t seen anybody suggest. What about Tage Thompson out of Buffalo? 24 years old, one more year at 1.4 and then he’s an rfa. Hard to beat someone with 19 goals so far and is 6’6
I did earlier but had no interest. He seems to be breaking out this season so it might take an over pay to get him. He would certainly be a long term piece.

Even if it’s narrowed drastically, he still won’t come cheap. And he won’t push us over into legit contention. And most importantly, it’ll handcuff us at the 2C opening we should be focusing on.

Kane shouldn’t be an option for us. There are more pressing needs.
We’re you talking about @KreiderBomb’s dog?

Not cheap but I don’t think he would ever be cost prohibitive.

Kane is a next year, deadline acquisition thing. He’s not getting traded this season.

Got to let it go--this is like groundhogs' day every time Buch scores.

Yes, most of us miss him and it doesn't look like a good trade.

But Sammy got hurt after 14 games--you can't tell me he didn't look good in those 14 games--plus we have the Blues 2nd which we don't know what that will be. Traded perhaps draft pick perhaps--I wish Sammy didn't get hurt just to have a better gauge of the trade.

And for the record I would have kept Buch over Strome or even CK with the good season he's having but it's in the past nothing we can do but wish him the best unless it's against us.

My feelings basically but he's still in this league and he's too good - can't ignore((
And on a contract that might've made him manageable here? This is the worst IMO.

Got to agree.

But whatever the Rangers do they better not just sit on the cap space.

Even if we can't trade for the players, we want use the cap space like Arz and take players back for draft picks build the damn minor league with draft picks. Nothing past this year as far as term.

Just don't do nothing because Drury can't get whom he wants. Black Aces of the cap space.

100% agree.

Not sure why they chose to keep CK last year but all teams pass on trades.

My guess is the Rangers wanted Strome to play with Bread and liked the chemistry they had together.

Buch was the odd man out not the way most of us would have gone.

Drury targeted Blais and we all know why--Buch having a better season than last year makes the trade look bad.

There are going to be a lot of sellers at the deadline. The top 8 in the East are pretty much locked in. Detriot is 8pts out but Boston had 2 games in hand. Even if the Islanders win their 5 games in hand on Boston, they would still be 8pts out.

In the West there is still a race going on with the Oilers, Vegas, Nashville, LA (all currently in the playoffs), Anaheim and Dallas all within 4pts of each other (Dallas also has 2 games in hand). Winnipeg and Vancouver are both within striking distance but Vancouver has the most games played at 51.

Sharks (in my opinion), Hawks, Yotes and Kraken are done. 12 sellers right there as of today. Within another week or 2 likely 2 of the 4 teams I listed as still being in it will be out based on head to head games in that time period.

Should be a buyers market.
