Because it's late I'll be obtuse. The guy the Rangers really wanted was never leaving Carolina and there really wasn't a lot out there. That being said...

Guy I would have gone with has already been the head coach of this team this year, and is not Gallant
Guy I would go with now we can't because he's cancelled

Who are these two men?

Bobby Granger and Webster

1. Sign Kadri to 7.75 x 6 years
2. Move on from Georgiev (acquire draft picks) and use a ELC backup
3. Trade Nemeth and 2nd to Arizona (cap dump)
4. Trade Chytil for draft pick(s)
5. Sign Kaapo and Blais to total cap hit together of ~4m
6. Sign Gauthier and Hajek near league minimum

We would still have around 1.18m cap space to work with (if we use Garand as backup) or 2.033m to fill backup (if Garand is not on active roster).
Kreider - Mika - Laf
Panarin - Kadri - Kaapo
Gautheir - Goodrow - Blais
Hunt - Barron - Reaves

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Jones - Schneider
Hajek

Shesterkin
Garand (or a better backup)
Small quibble but a pet cause of mine, I don’t really like the idea of a young goalie riding the pine. These guys need reps. Fine for them to come up as starter if they regular starter is injured. But more than other positions, I feel goalies are better served starting a lot at lower levels. I’d prefer a veteran backup. They have their reps in and are better jumping in cold.

Nick Ritchie has a great slap shot and smaller players just bounce off of him.

If we weren't already slow as hell I would be okay with Ritchie but the last thing we need is another slow, stone handed 4th liner.

Not if Kane narrows his NMC list and requests a trade. That will drop his value dramatically
Even if it’s narrowed drastically, he still won’t come cheap. And he won’t push us over into legit contention. And most importantly, it’ll handcuff us at the 2C opening we should be focusing on.

Kane shouldn’t be an option for us. There are more pressing needs.

Remember when we were supposed to be hot on the trails of Eichel, Giordano, and Hertl? Good times. A part of me wants Drury to fall asleep behind the wheels just to see the Rangers do absolutely nothing at the deadline despite the $1B industry around rumormongering our team

Ritchie would have been too rich for us to acquire on these terms, though I proposed taking him with $1M in retention for a future 2nd a while back. I guess a comparable would’ve been something like Hajek/Tinordi + Gauthier going to Toronto. Not worth a 2023 3rd/alt 2025 2nd with a likely $300k buyout penalty next season and another $1,100,000 2023/2024 in dead space. Arizona was too generous. Pass… Next batter up!

even if you thought he was only max out as a 3C, it was worth it to us at that time. ADA and Lemieux were gone and team was soft as charmin.

plus 2. 2nds is what he returned. We might have gotten him for 2nd+ prospect? Who knows

Easy to say in hindsight. He could’ve come here, put up 3 points, and walked as a UFA. There was no guarantee he was even going to be a quality 3C. I would’ve been lukewarm on the trade at the time. Obviously, in hindsight, it’s a no brainer.
