The cap.
Holloway for Georgiev is still available to Edmonton.
The cap absolutely does not say no to getting the best player in the nhl. You move other guys to make that work. But unfortunately the oilers say no
His cap hit is less that $1m more than bread. Trouba, Kreider, bread, etc could all be traded for cheaper pieces to put around McDavid. You create Edmonton East in NY is what would happen. McDavid, Panarin, Fox, Shesty, Zib then 10 McKeggs and 5 kids.
I'm willing to make a bet with anyone here.
$500 to you, $1000 to the Garden of dreams and I take a permaban from this site for forever
All Gallant has to do is lead this team to a championship within 3 seasons.
Any takers or just cowards out there?
The Rangers only have 14 more road games in the regular season including 2 games @ devils, and 1 game @ islanders, Flyers, and bruins. So only 9 games more than 2 hours away from home.
Hypothetically I wonder if Igor and, say, Miller, and Lafreniere move the needle for McD. Just value wise.Mcdavid the coach killer is getting routed right now

So, when was the last time the rangers really *won* a deal. We lose plenty. Clearly Fox is a win but that was due to some pretty unusual factors. I’m talking about a simple hockey trade. Do we ever win those? Would be nice to walk away from the trade deadline this year feeling we took advantage of cap space or got value for Hajek and Georgiev for example.

True. Strome for nothing and liquidating Nash at the right time are both big wins.Strome trade, I would say we won the Trouba trade, but I know that will have different options. I wouldn't want that Pionk contract.
The Nash trade was for futures, but getting Lindgren, the pick that we used to move up to get Miller, and Spooner, who was used for Strome should be talked about as a big a positive as the negative McDonagh/Miller trade is still talked about here.
Strome, Nash, Fox And Zib. Probably Skjei. But there are many bad ones. McD/Miller, Buch, Stepan {As it developed}, Zucc, Graves... Win Sum Lose Sum
You have to think Drury wants to make a move before the TDL. It’s better for chemistry purposes....If they can just stay within striking distance of first place at the deadline, look out. Would be 19 games left, only 7 vs playoff teams, and 5 of them are at MSG.
Next 13 will be tough before the deadline though.
Damn Is Chycrun really dropped to 3rd pair? He must be extra miserable there this season.....
You gotta think just playing in a consolidated division schedule cause of covid also had an effect on his stats....Chychrun's shooting % was 10.2% last season. This season his shooting % is 1.7%. Maybe he isn't that good of a player for Arizona to demand 3 or 4 assets in order to acquire him. He had the same flaws last season but his shooting % masked those flaws. Arizona wanted to trade him last month. They told teams through media leaks don't wait until March 21 to make the trade. Increase your offers or the player is staying in Arizona. Teams are like whatever. Vancouver has used a similar strategy with their players. Offer us more or JT/Garland are staying in Vancouver. Someone in Vancouver has leaked that twice to Pierre LeBrun. Jim Rutherford likes to make his trades before the trade deadline. In Carolina and Pittsburgh, he didn't wait until the deadline to make a trade. He is on the other side now and the other teams aren't responding to him. Whatever.
Chychrun wants out of Arizona but his play isn't doing him any favors.
In the recent NY Post podcast with Larry Brooks and Mollie Walker, Brooks said the Rangers have good chemistry in the room. The players get along and have a good time together. Brooks felt the Rangers chemistry is an important reason why the Rangers are having a solid regular season. Bringing in many new players at the deadline with effect that chemistry. Mollie agreed with Larry. We talk about Drury has all of this cap space to bring in X amount of player but the chemistry of the team will change.
Drury is in a tough spot. He is a first year GM and Dolan put him in charge of finishing the rebuild/build. Drury played in The NHL and he knows team chemistry is very important. Drury has been sitting on this cap space all season. 20/20 hindsight. Maybe the Rangers should have just kept Buchnevich as a self rental instead of having to scour the trade market for a Buchnevich replacement. First time GM. What do you expect?
