I'll say this, if Chytil can continue to play as he has the last couple of games, then perhaps letting Strome walk and improving the wing depth becomes a better conversation.

I have routinely asked myself, 'is the issue with Chytil, or is it that they are no longer properly supporting him with good 2-way wingers to augment his game?'

I am beginning to think it's the latter.

We could just flank him with Hunt and McKegg.

This team should explore rostering only 6 forwards and 4 defenseman. If the league won't allow it we can sign 6 more forwards and 2 more d to league minimum deals and have them sit on the bench and watch the game. Our top players would average 30 minutes. We wouldn't have any bottom players. If we can do it in my men's league games with worse conditioning and worse skill then why can't these superstar professional athletes do the same? We're coddling the players trying to ease their ice time and dumping these bad players on the ice to eat minutes. Imagine a roster with an 81.5M salary cap where you could have about 73M of that split between 6 forwards, 4dmen, and 2 goalies. The team would be a powerhouse. Then instead of debating "Should we spend 3M for Lehkonen on our bottom line?" it would be "Should be spend 11M on Gaudreau to complement Panarin/Zibanejad/Kreider/Kakko/Lafreniere."

While JT appears to be a good fit for the now, I'd wonder where it would fit this team beyond his contract.

I feel like for the amount you have to give up (including not resigning Strome and then being left with only Mika after next season) it may set this team back a bit. I'm not advocating re-signing Strome, I'm just looking at the whole picture down the road.

They need to find a way to bring another young center or two onto this club and that's what the trade assets should be used for. Does that player(s) exist - I dont know that either.

So Im coming to the conclusion that I dont know much of anything

When was Larkin actually available? And for what?
From what we've gathered there were talks. I'm sure if we paid the 'price', they would have budged imo. All conjecture though

Now, they think they could compete for a playoff spot by next year, not happening

We completely missed the boat on Larkin.

Got to make the moves when they're available.

Realistically, there’s no telling Larkin was definitely available. But we missed the boat on PLD and I remember advocating for that one pretty heavily. People didn’t want to part with Chytil, etc. PLD is exactly the kind of 2C you do want on this team. On pace for 36 goals and 61 points and is a solid physical player with a decent two way game.

Chytil wouldn't have gotten it done either. Tough to come up with a realistic package.
