Really hope Jones gets a legitimate shot to stick with this org but a bit worried that he will not "fit" what Drury, Sather, Gallant desire in a dman.
My gut feel is that he's the favorite to open next season on the third pair, but for the stretch run and the playoffs, they are going to want a different mix.

Not sure I want an 8+ million 3rd line

2022-23
1st line - CK - MZ - KK = 18 Million (assumed 3.o for KK)
2nd Line - AP - RS - AL - 18 Million (assumed 5.5 for RS)
3rd Line - FC - BG - Lehkonen 10 Million (assumed 3.0 for Lehkonen)
4th Line - DH - MB - RR - 3.5 Million

Does not include Sammy Blais who will probably get a long-term deal in the low 2's so even if you deal Chytil, the off-set is minimal.

18+18+10+3.5 = approx 50 Million

AND, the assumptions for KK and RS may be conservative. The actual numbers could be quite a bit highter.

There is major difference in signing someone to a moderately pricy long term deal with the intent of them being in a 3rd/4th line role than there is with someone like Staal who is on the end of his deal, older, and has moved down the lineup. He also scored at a 58 point pace just last year. If Staal has declined from a 2C to a 3C at the end of his deal what do you think a 3rd/4th liner declines too? They become not a viable NHL player. Karlsson is just the case of acquiring a better player which moves him down. He was never intentionally signed to play a lower role.

Additionally none of those teams, other than Washington, signed multiple guys to long expensive deals. Jarnkrok was just 2M, signed at a younger age, and wasn't even seen as important enough for them to protect in expansion. Hathaway is only 1.5M. The majority of that can be buried.

McGinn was signed to replace Tanev. Copp is a far better player than anyone else listed and is not really a bottom 6 guy.

We already to committed to Goodrow at 3.6M in this role (more money than any of the above guys). We cannot do it again for almost 3M and be locked in for almost 6.5M for two depth liners for 5 years.

It's exactly what Benning did. In a vacuum, it seemed fine in isolation but when you started adding up the Roussels, Ferlands, and the like, it kills you by compounding mistakes elsewhere and destroying your cap.

Lol everyone and their mother knows this. Have to love the shitty beat writers for the rangers and the shitty writers for other hockey magazines that write the obvious or bs.
Hockey news also has a 100% Canadian Bias and has very rarely had a kind word for the Rangers, so I'm sure they'd love for us to give up our best players for the trash up north.

Part of why i love when people post THN, some random ass websites, and others that know nothing about our team but write shit that people on here take as legit lol

really would love to add Lehkonen.
He’ll help us 5v5. Another Finn for kakko to play/hang out with.
Solid of the forecheck, big body, good wheels, good shot, ups his game in the postseason etc.
Won’t cost a ton.

if the biggest drawback of getting him is worrying about his QA for next season, I don’t give it a 2nd thought.
He’d be a big upgrade on Gauthier on 3rd line.
It’s really a shame GG won’t give Barron a 5-7 game stretch. I think adding those 2 to the line up, bumping Gauthier down to 4th line rotation, we’d be much better off. Especially when kakko returns.

my 2 biggest problems with Gallant have been not getting Barron time over players he’s Better then, and not leaving Chytil at Wing for an extended period of time while he was playing better there.
Those 2 line up moves change the whole Fwd dynamic.
Hopefully Jones-Schneider is a permanent thing and he doesn’t dick around with it.

reporters should be asking him these questions.... it pisses me off that not 1 of them has the guts to say why isn’t Barron getting time after playing well? And why isn’t chytil on the wing after playing well?

again, not that I think GG is a bad coach or dumb or that I don’t like him.
Why he doesn’t do the obvious is just weird to me

"His targets could include young forwards Kaapo Kakko, Filip Chytil and Vitali Kravtsov or defensemen K'Andre Miller, Nil Lundkvist and Braden Schneider."

For Chiarot? WTH?

Who the f*** is Ilya Shesterkin?

Prob meant Igor Sorokin. He plays a lot in Valley Stream.

I wouldn't say he's plateaued at 22 years old. He's got plenty of time, and goes through good spurts showing what kind of player he might become in his prime later on, but he's probably not a fit for where this team is right now in terms of wanting to compete.
His game has absolutely plateaued, and it might even be regressing.

I'm not saying he cant make a step in the future, but I dont think it will be here if he does...
