Usually guys in their contract year have amazing seasons, I think the silver lining here is he is hopefully saving us from ourself.
When he is on and playing engaged he is effective and you can start to look past the warts, but when it isn't all clicking he is just a killer, especially 5v5 which is where we are weak to begin with.

Feel like they need to move Chytil back to RW on the Panarin line and move Goodrow back to the third line. They can't expect to win many games with their fourth line being their third line. All the lines did alright because the Red Wings suck and were coughing the puck up like crazy. The third line would have had a better chance of capitalizing on all those turnovers than putting McKegg out on the ice.

Panarin's season reminds me a bit of Gaborik's 2011-2012 campaign.

He's still putting up the numbers, but he isn't single handedly taking over games the way we've seen him in seasons past.

I think once Kakko gets back it slides goodrow down and changes the depth on the team.

Probably has more to do with how you read it.
So Kakko who when he's been healthy has started to look like a top 6 winger, should be on the third line.
And laf who's been struggling but then once he got top 6 time, looked like a top 6 winger, should be on the third line.

Again stupid comment.

The easier solution is to severely cut down the ice time of the 4th line. Ryan Reaves does not need to be playing 10-12 minutes a game. It should be more like 4-6.

Something like this - SEA at WPG

I’ll leave you with this: Why not create a good third line, say Laf/Chytil/Kakko, and then….

wait for it….

…play the third line more?

You look at some of the actual contenders in this league, they have really strong top 6s with some good depth. Hell, teams like Vegas, St Louis, Florida... almost their entire top 9 are made up of top-6 talent. We talk about our awful 5 on 5 play... at the moment we have only 4 top-6 players. We kinda know this rebuild has been predicated on the young guys becoming impact players and filling out those roles, along with the pieces we already have. We have one of the youngest teams in the league, a couple star fowards, an already strong D-core, a world class goalie.. but we're not there yet. We've been squeaking by on good special teams and outstanding goaltending. Next year we need to see Kakko & Laf take another step, we need them in full time top 6 roles getting +17 minutes a night. We still need some time to grow, I think we're at the perfect crossroads with Chytil... Strome is a UFA, let him walk. Chytils contract is kind of a perfect spot for next year, where if you give him some extra minutes and he does break out a little, maybe a modest 50 he's someone you can probably lock in around 4.5... maybe not the most complete 2C, but under the cap constraints thats incredibly valuable. I think if we had a more well established, complete team maybe that's not a gamble you take.. but at the moment, until this roster fills out and some of these young guys take the next step this team is a bit of a house of cards

Yep. We don’t have the scoring depth to compete. Most of our scoring occurs on the PP. That’s not how you challenge for a Cup,

You have to factor in Dolan wants progress this year after firing the entire staff…

so how much pressure is Drury under to make a deal that gives us a shot to win a round or two…

A couple rounds in the playoffs put massive cash in the MSG coffers

Not sure I want an 8+ million 3rd line

2022-23
1st line - CK - MZ - KK = 18 Million (assumed 3.o for KK)
2nd Line - AP - RS - AL - 18 Million (assumed 5.5 for RS)
3rd Line - FC - BG - Lehkonen 10 Million (assumed 3.0 for Lehkonen)
4th Line - DH - MB - RR - 3.5 Million

Does not include Sammy Blais who will probably get a long-term deal in the low 2's so even if you deal Chytil, the off-set is minimal.

18+18+10+3.5 = approx 50 Million

AND, the assumptions for KK and RS may be conservative. The actual numbers could be quite a bit highter.

This, IMO, is too stationary of thinking though. What if the team, as many here, are concerned with giving Strome a long term deal? What happens if they run:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Lafreniere
Panarin-Goodrow-Kaako
Lehkonen-Chytil-Blais/Kravtsov
Hunt/Blais-Barron-Reaves

Also, we all know players get moved around all the time, so adding another player who can slide all over the place, like a Goodrow or Fast in Lehkonen would be a good thing and has value outside of just being a good 3rd liner.
