I don’t have a trade target in mind for DeAngelo because his chemistry with Panarin&co/his fit in the locker-room makes him most valuable on the Rangers.

I do know that Winnipeg is looking for Trouba/Byfuglien/Meyers replacements, not just an offensive RHD. Pionk is faring well on the Jets.
Just feel like if we are discussing trading him, then people should be able to discuss what he would be moved for.

What other teams are looking for is not my concern. If one wanted a 60 pacing point 24 year old defenseman, unless they come to the table with a similarly aged 70+ point forward, the answer is no.

There is where we disagree and the no point in much discussion after that. There is simply NO WAY that some team is going to make him an offer sheet after 1.5 years of production for $8m and all of the term that come with it. That would be insane.

And if you are going to throw out names there, Morrisey did not make $8m in his RFA years. He made considerably less per year. And he just signed a deal for $6.25 per so there's that. The Oilers signed Nurse. That was not arbitration. As a 24 year old Trouba was awarded $5.5 . We can pick and choose what we want. But DeAngelo can ask for sky, moon and stars, and no arbitrator is going to award him $8. Nor is any team going to come up with an offer sheet for that much over long term for him right now.

Joshua Morrissey - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps extension contract contains two RFA years, the ones without clauses. The salary is at 8M.

Trouba was awarded 5.5M after a 24 pts 55 game season.

I think they will be able to find a buyer for Smith’s salary at just 1 year left. I think he is certainly playing well enough for a team to be interested in absorbing his $4.25 cap hit for only 1 season.

I would be happy to turn around and then sign Dillon to a 3-4 year deal. I think you can get him signed in the same range that Smith is in right now while it being an upgrade overall. The 3-4 year term buys time to sort out the left side between Hajek-Miller-Robertson-Rykov-Reunanen-Jones over that time. One of them steps in to replace Staal, maybe as soon as next year. Then you can maybe package the others that are closer right now to fix a hole with that group being Hajek-Rykov-Reunanen. Jones and Robertson are bought much more time and eventually replace Dillon to be the cheap ELCs you need to navigate the salary cap.
The buyer for Smith is debateable. And that presents a hindrance to signing a Dillon, whom I would easily sign. Again, the question is, can they come up with room in salary structure and can Dillon play with Trouba as a top pairing guy?

Morrisey was also a 24 year old defenseman. Same as DeAngelo. Many things come into play with market comps.

What you are doing with Morrisey is obfuscation. His contract is $50m for 8 years. Over the life of the deal, that is $6.25m per year. Front loading contracts is not quite the same thing as claiming that there are teams that would offer sheet DeAngelo to a contract that pays him $8.4m per year over the life of the deal.

The filing dates for arbitration are after July 1st when offer sheets can be signed. Last year arbitration filing was I believe July 5th.

Also the player would have to file to prevent offer sheets. Team filing does not provide protection.

Again it does not matter, read the article about Weber, his award had nothing to do with if those contract were long or not, it had to do with what any RFA year paid them in salary.

As opposed to Smith, Staal and Lindgren, yes. We mss Malik now.

I guess we're lucky that Sergachev is the more attractive OS target with the cap crunch Tampa is facing.

Maybe, and while I am talking about an offer sheet, I very much doubt that happens.

More just trying to point out the leverage in signing ADA as cheaply as people would like has dwindled, and it will do so more should he continue on his scoring pace.

Just send Kakko to the AHL jeebus.

Let him at least finish out the year some place where he will be productive.

Would you rather do a bridge at 5 mil per, or a 8 year 6.5 mil aav extension?

I'd prefer the latter but I would bet management goes for the former.
Not sure management has a choice even if they wanted to offer 8 years tbh

Anecdotal evidence along with what our plugged in posters are saying points to Tony not wanting a long term deal

I forget who it was, but somebody here made a great point that we need to start locking up players long term. That's the only way we realistically can keep the team together going forward. If TDA is a core player then they really should consider the long term contract. If he's just going to be dealt in 2 years then obviously do the bridge. But he isn't going to be cheaper to sign in two years at this rate.
