Toffoli is signed for two more years, following this one. $4.25M per. Not bad. 29 years old. He isn't JT Miller, but that's a solid haul and should set the prices now going forward, in a way. Miller will easily get something so rich that I almost see him staying in Vancouver on a big deal. Who is going to pay 1st+Othmann+Lundkvist+Barron/Kravtsov IF Vancouver were to retain?
f*** no. Hahaha. But that’s just me.

The only one similar is Kuznetsov who still came over to the NHL and produced in his D+4 season.

Tarasenko was above a PPG in the KHL in his D+3 and was a full time, productive player in his D+4 at .67 PPG.
Panarin even as a super late bloomer had 40 pts in 50 games in his D+4 in the KHL
Kucherov was 65 in 82 in the NHL.

I forget what other names were on that ridiculous list. But Kravtsov shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence at these guys.

Tarasenko, Panarin, Kucherov, and Kuznetsov all are great players whereas Kravtsov, as of now, is not. Seems pretty easy to mention them all in the same sentence.

Tanner Pearson with 50% retention could go a long way towards shoring up our third line for the next two years but that'd be a damned expensive acquisition.

And no one wants to give Kravtsov Kakko or Laf's spot- they want to give him Hunt or Gauthier's equally unearned spots.

Is Pearson still good? I know hes 29 so half the board thinks he belongs in a nursing home, but he fits the kind of middle 6 role the Rangers need and has plenty of Cup experience. Counting stats are meh but the advanced metrics look good based on a quick hockey reference search. I doubt Van wants to retain but maybe if you send them Kravtsov it will entice them.

Its funny how we originally got mad at rangers for skipping walhstrom, then became enamored with kravstov at first because you could see the skill. All of a sudden... drama, drama and more drama. I don't know what his value is percieved as now. It is higher than lias was, but I still see it as a late first round pick. He doesnt have that A + status. The only one in the rangers current crop is probably otthman and I will be in disbelief if they trade drury's first pick as gm.

We know our pieces and have been beating the drum til it broke. Rangers should pursue lekohnen. The b6 will just grind them away and keep the puck in their zone so you can bring in the big guns when the guys on their side of the ice are wiped. Lekohnen chytil goodrow has a good mix of everything and can allow chytil to maybe get back some of his mojo. Im not worried about kakko out. He will be back and then you have 2rw filled. Honestly get a top nine player just in case. Then you have a decent team with the best goaltending to get you through.

You all are crazy. Staple has been great for the NYR...people think he is mailing it in?? Carp's "badass" "recaps" were basically HF posts. No big loss to me.

I really enjoyed his prospects articles last week, good on him reaching out to coaches, shame the Rangers wouldn’t let the prospects talk though.

nils is the exact opposite d man from what the leafs need. they need more muzzin type grit and defensive d men, not more of the sandin and liligren types.

I think this is a silly notion driven by a lot of hysteria from the hockey media about Toronto being soft and blah blah blah. What Toronto needed was for Tavares to not get hurt and Matthews to not randomly shoot 2% over 7 games (one of the worst stretches of his career). Otherwise, they decidedly outplayed Montreal, while MTL got a ton of lucky bounces.

That being said, Toronto already has three very good defensive dmen that they can play on each pairing in Brodie, Muzzin, and Sandin. Not sure why you think Sandin isn’t good defensively, but that’s most certainly not the case. Nils is also good defensively and would fit well with what Toronto is building. It’s a trade that works well for both teams.

Carps STUNK, and Staple is a really good reporter...that being said, he very clearly has no desire to cover the Rangers. He's putting on his best face but it's pretty evident.

Montreal is the team I'm looking at that could give Nils as much runway as he needs. They have Chris Wideman running their point. No standout offensive d-man in the system. Lots of lefties on the club right now. Leaders of each front office might hate each other, but they can work through that.

Is there even a player on the Habs who we can trade Lundkvist for? I do love me some Josh Anderson but theres no shot we can fit that contract

Your bottom line doesn't have to be anything special to win in this league but it helps if it's not AHL trash. It also helps as a fan base if you have some at least intriguing guys that are worth watching such as Barron in your bottom 6 and Blais on the 4th line.

we have some intriguing guys that hopefully get a 4th line look next season. I think Ruesschoff absolutely should get some show me games. When he’s got time in Hartford this season, he’s been great. He was very good last year as well. I like him better then Gettinger tbh. Richards is another player as well, but he’s not having a great season so far.
As long as 4th like can give you an honest 10 min a night of hard work, it shouldn’t be a problem. Barron should def be higher in the line up. He’s got more skills then an average 4th liner.
Signing vets like Jarnkrok/Jankowski/etc should be plentiful in the offseason they just have to identify which one suits them.
We know hunt and Reaves will be here because they are signed. Rooney likely leaves for a raise.
Having a 4th line rotation of Hunt-Vet UFA-Reaves with Ruesschoff /another 750-950k UFA as a rotation is more then fine.
Jarnkrok would be excellent, because he could move up if need be, but he’s a solid 4C and proven that.
Whether Barron is ultimately a 3rd/4th line guy in terms of talent I guess remains to be seen.
I highly doubt your going to see Blais on 4th like. He’s mostly a 3rd liner/rover that will bump up to fill in in case of injury.
Me personally, I’d like to go with more unknowns/kids on 4th line and give them a shot to prove themselves. Kind of similar to how the penguins did it.
You’d always see an influx of young guys come up in the ranks, some guys that no one heard of, or were lower on the radar then expected...
They played their balls off and some guys wound up moving up in the line up, some guys priced out, and were replaced with other kids.
Guys like Rust/sheary Kuhnackl, etc
Eventually the hope is Berard/Othmann/Cuylle/Edstrom/Korczak/Grubbe/etc can be that for us once we basically have our top 7-8 Fwds set.
At that point, you can start dropping the Blais/Goodrow down the line up. The ELCs will balance out with the higher cap hits from the older players.
Really the only massive void we have is 2C when strome departs.
If you believe LaF and kakko continue to get better. Everything else should be filled in from UFA bargain bin, or internally.

Many teams are like Montreal. You look at Capfriendly for the cap numbers and hockeydb for the previous draft picks, many of these teams have nothing. You watch the games and it's worse. So many of these teams stink.

we disagree on sandin at this point and based on what the leafs need based on their last few years and that is fine, we can leave it at that

If were looking for some bottom 6 help, i keep coming back to Ottawa. They are a clear seller and have a number of guys who can contribute down the stretch on the 3rd & 4th lines. Tierney/Nick Paul/Zach Sanford are all UFAs at the end of the year and i cant imagine they cost more than a second at most. I also would absolutely love to add Connor Brown as a double rental at 50%. Thats the kind of Goodrow/Coleman to TB type move we should be looking at.

First big trade and where's Drury? Asleep at the wheel. This team couldn't use a top 6 RW on a good contract? They could have afforded the extra two years by not extending Strome and going cheap at C next year. Maybe could have paid extra to see if they would retain. Although he probably burned his bridges with MTL when he convinced Dolan to fire JD and Gorton so he could take over control of the organization.

Is this sarcasm?

I think Gorton is a business man first and foremost, if he can make a good deal for his club he'd do it - what would you target from Habs for Nils?

Nils for Caufield?
