Not Ussr. Just Russia. But players who played for both Ussr and Russia do count.

Ovechkin - Datsuyk - Kovalchuck
Bure - Fedorov - Mogilny
Panarin - Malkin - Kucherov
Kaprizov - Yashin - Tarasenko

Fetisov - Zubov
Conchar - Konstantivov
Markov - Kasatonov

Goalies are really hard. Nabakov, Bob, Vali, Khabulin, Varlamov, Sorokin,
Shesterkin. Could make a case for all of them.

Discuss!

Oh crap. Forgot that. Who should have their spots?
Well, they played actively during the time of the Russian Federation so the fact they did not represent the Russian Federation shouldn’t matter so I wouldn’t change the lineup.

On the other hand, their old CSKA teammates could then be counted too…

I’m a bit unsure of the specifics. Are we looking at NHL time only? And if they played for both, are we only looking at how good they were for the Russian national team? Larionov for instance obviously is a lot more highly regarded for his career in the 80s, but did end up playing for Russia at the 96 World Cup and then again for the 02 Olympics. Fetisov being on there suggests Larionov is eligible, but I don’t know what version of him we’d get. I wouldn’t have NHL Fetisov on the top pair (and maybe not at all), so maybe we do get the 80s versions?

If we get 80s Larionov, I’d put him on over Yashin, and even if we only get NHL Larionov, I’d consider putting the ‘94 Sharks version or the Russian 5 version on as well. Yashin was more talented and obviously had a couple big years in Ottawa, including his (questionable) Hart runner-up year, but he wasn’t great defensively and wouldn’t be on PP1. His attitude was also questionable, though maybe that’d be different on Russia. But I think there’s so much offensive talent already that it could use more defensive acumen besides Fedorov and Datsyuk. Mogilny was good too, and Bure was a dangerous short handed threat, but another PK option makes sense imo.
