I understand the cap will be tight but why trade ADA when we've been looking for a guy like that since leetch. I mean look around the league. Who else compares to his play style? Makar, hughes, ADA. All game changers from the back end. I understand that sometimes he makes mistakes on the back end but his positives far out weigh his negatives. Dude is a stud
And the edge he plays with is something Makar/Hughes could never do. DeAngelo has the most unique skillset of any dman on our team AINEC

Would you guys do Lundkvist for Podkolzin?

oohh, I liked everything I read about Podkolin. Our scouts apparently loved him so (lol) that means he’s a 50/50.

To answer the question, “yes”, I would make that trade yesterday (although he may take his time coming over here). Heard he has a mean streak too.

ive said this before, and ive seen others ask...but has jacob trouba been playing through a LBI?

all season hes seemed slow on pivots and gotten burned lots. i know coming in he wasnt a skater like deangelo, but this is not what was advertised.

have to think hes fighting through an injury or something. that aside, love the physicality he brings.

ive never talked to a jets fan about this, maybe they would have better insight as to if this is status quo or not

The rigid insistence on RHD and LHD is one of the worst things to happen to hockey strategy and roster building in recent memory.
This, AV was one of those guys that really pushed the whole RHD on RD and LHD on LD thing. It seems people would prefer an inferior player on his strong side than a superior player on his weak side.

It’s not people, it’s also NHL coaches and management. Edge has mentioned this before.

Re: Skjei, interesting note from LeBrun:

The Hurricanes weren’t alone bidding on Skjei. The Florida Panthers would have loved to get their hands on him. That was their focus the rest of the day after making their deal with Carolina. They were desperate to find a top-four, left-side D who was not a rental player.

The problem, according to two sources, was that Florida was trying to make a dollar-in, dollar-out trade (I think Mike Matheson was offered) in exchange for Skjei. That didn’t make much sense for a Rangers team that was only dealing Skjei away for salary cap reasons after signing Chris Kreider to an extension and looking ahead to offseason, cap-related decisions.

tonight was enjoyable, but you should know that contract lasts six more seasons after this one.
Well aware and I am happy to have Trouba. It was a terrible job by him on the 2nd goal not reading the play and getting caught in between. Lets not act like mistakes are exclusive to Trouba.

On a side note...Toronto and Florida’s goaltending is poopie. I dont know how they looked Frederik Andersen and thought this is ok for now and the future. Jack Campbell isnt the answer there either. They may have won tonight but they are in trouble. Something they will assuredly revisit in the summer...but then again this is Dubas were talking about.

We should do everything we can to keep D'Angelo and Fox. That's already a luxury that that leads to wins for us compared to teams that can't generate anything from the D. If NL can also do that then we will be a very dangerous team and with at least Trouba and Lindgren, we won't risk getting run over.

In regards to the upcoming draft, the first round should be about finding top 6 offensive forwards. Ideally one or both should be centers. If we find ourselves in a draft position where we cannot add first line elite offensive skill, I'd like us to focus on finding speedy, powerful, play drivers. Less interested in guys with high boom potential who are maybe undersized or have less than elite skating. That's for the later rounds.

We need more Chytils to round out this team.

You look at the top teams in the league and beyond their core elite forwards, they have young guys like Sundkvist, Hintz, DeBrusk -- these are the kind of strong/fast guys that just wear teams down and ultimately create more space for elite teammates. Tiffoli types. Hopeful Barron's game could one day be in this mold.

Speaking of which, you can just see when CK isn't 100% there's so much less space for Zibanejad to create. When Kreider and Fast are on and creating havoc, they seem to create an identity for the rest of the forward group. We should be building on that.

I just hate the idea of moving Lundkvist OR Fox because they seem the most well rounded and highest upside.

But it's tough to trade DeAngelo coming off his point production and it's tough to trade Trouba cause you just signed him and he's got a NMC kicking in, and he wants to be here.

I guess you ride this one out a little bit longer and see where you are in a year or two.

Trouba seems like the obvious move though, in most other considerations, because of age and contract.

Lundkvist has more upside than ADA? I’m not sure I’m putting the unknown over a 60 point defenseman with some grit to his game. He’s basically everything we wanted MDZ to be and more.

That should probably be considered, then, if they are really high on Lundkvist and can get back a Nylander level forward.... both significant "ifs."

Lundkvist hasn’t made it to this continent yet. It’s laughable that Toronto would trade a young first line forward with term for an unproven player. Fast forward to next year and he’s having a campaign like Fox and it might be a different story. Selling Lundkvist now is not selling high unless you expect him to struggle.

No thanks. Pod hasn’t really hit his stride in the KHL just yet while Nils is playing great hockey. I don’t know what Nils upside is but I think a second pair RD has considerably more value than a middle 6 winger.

I haven’t followed Podkolzin a lot lately, but he has popped up both here and there during the season.

He is a lot like K’Andre Miller at forward. Only looking at Pod as a player, of course taking into account the adjustment periods he is fighting to get through, I would be in favor of a deal. But I am not 100% sold on his mentality. He is sulking a bit at times, stuff like that. For me all I know is that you cannot draw any safe conclusions of that, but it adds a bit of risk.
