Lundkvist is a 2 way D but I’m sure people who’ve never seen him play see small-ish Swede and assume otherwise. Fox is very much a 2-way D as well, and DeAngelo is hardly one dimensional either. How many players anywhere near him offensively play with as much of an edge as he does? And it’s a LOT easier to help develop these guys defense skills than teach the kind of offensive skill they have. Trouba is the easily the most replaceable guy here.

Our future at LD has lots of bigger guys who play a heavy game in Lindgren, Miller, Rykov, etc.

I would actually classify Trouba as a 0-way defenseman.

I don't dislike Trouba, but I can't help but think how much better it would be for us is he was a left handed shot.

Hopefully the Rangers set a deadline for Kreider to accept their final contract offer. Once that passes we got to trade him. I wonder if that deadline has passed now and if Gorts is receiving offers and sending counter proposals on him.

Gorton is definitely doing both simultaneously. If he gets a trade offer he can't refuse, he likely will go back to Kreider with one final take it or leave it offer.

I feel the fact Fox is a born & raised Ranger fan causes some bias, perhaps since I’m not from NY I don’t care where a players from at all. He is not in the same stratosphere as DeAngelo when it comes to talent, he has nowhere near that level of skating, hands, offensive IQ, or edge. Fox reminds me a lot of Pionk.
DeAngelo >>>> Fox >>>>>>>>> Trouba

I can’t even begin to express how much better Adam Fox is than Neal Pionk.

Can both just be good young top 4 defensemen? I don’t know why it’s a competition or a comparison.

Fox is a really good player and far better than Pionk. That being said, he's just the type of guy coaches obsess over. ADA is clearly not. The on-ice play speaks for itself.

Sure, ADA has some warts defensively, if he didn't, we'd be talking about having a Nick Lidstrom type. That's literally generational talent. What we are talking about here is having an elite offensive D-Man in his prime and in an NHL which is more and more relying on that type of asset, especially from the right side.

I really can't believe this conversation needs to be had.

Fox is a rookie and definitely has the potential to be better than DeAngelo IMO

Some of you people are just nuts and can’t be objective about players at all

e: stress potential. He does some things better now than DeAngelo ever will but he also seems to be hitting a bit of the rookie wall in terms of his points producing.

When was the last time negotiations went down to the wire and the difference between player and Gorts was closed? Zuke(1st impass) ...who took a deep discount. Me thinks party's over for Kreider...When Gorts decides its over for a player he low balls and does what he always intended....trade him for best deal.

He’s 22 & ADA is 24, it’s not like Fox is 18/19. ADA has always displayed elite offensive potential and better tools than Fox at every stage of their development. And second part of your post is insanely ironic lol

They are born like 16 months apart. There's no reason to think that ADA can't improve if you believe Fox will.

As it was said above, I really like both and believe both are integral to the rebuild. I don't believe either should be moved.

DeAngelo had the best junior production for a defenseman since Bobby Orr. He is the first NHL defenseman in TWENTY YEARS to get a 3 goal, 5pt game. And there is no defenseman in the same stratosphere as him offensively who plays with as much of an edge as he does. He’s like a mix of Erik Karlsson & Sean Avery. He has by far the most unique skill set on our team and would be the most difficult player to replace sans Panarin. The no brainer move here is to trade Trouba before his NMC kicks in.

DeAngelo has a group of fans who hate him and a group of fans who love him, either only seeing a caricature of him.

would agree. the fact he isnt signed by now means its over. no reason for him not to be signed by now

Yeah I don’t think anyone cares where he’s from at all. Deangelo is from NJ too so he’s just as much of a hometown boy. To say fox’s offensive IQ is nowhere near deangelo’s is an absurd statement.

It’s more about DeAngelo having more pro experience and this not being his rookie year versus Fox still having to adjust to the NHL grind

DeAngelo might score more points though Fox could also easily be a 60 point player in the future, but Fox’s play without the puck is a lot better and he reads the ice much better.
That’s not to slag DeAngelo. They need to keep him, it’s not really about putting down one guy to pump another but looking at different strengths and weaknesses. As much as DeAngelo has improved his D in a lot of ways he’ll never be an all situations D, while Fox could be and could do so while scoring 50+ points. At the same time, maybe you have DeAngelo crushing those other minutes and PP time and putting up tons of points. Despite being billed as offensive D they play differently and could serve different but valuable roles with this team

@True Blue @Faceless @GoAwayStaal @EdJovanovski
if you think there is a real chance to fix our poor LD (i mean to get top pairing LD) without trading ADA I admit my proposal was not a good idea ;) I thought that our another assests (not named ADA) are not good enough to get an elite/very good player at LD who can defend against best nhl forwards. Apparently I was wrong ;)

Is it? Starting job in an arena where he is obviously comfortable playing? With a good defense in front of him? In an outstanding city?

Fair points. I really only envision him agreeing to go to San Jose or Vegas, that's the perfect spot for him to have a one year vacation before retirement.

I don't disagree, but I think it's unrealistic to think they're going to trade someone they just signed to a long term deal.
