Because I have no idea how can we get two way top pairing LD in next 2-3 years if we don't trade ADA. We need Dmen who can defend as well. I can accept adding 1 round from Colorado to this deal if you think getting Byram is not enough ;);); Here is my post I have written 10-15 minutes ago:

"With Trouba, Fox and Lundkvist I think we need more two way top pairing LD than ADA (one of our 3 small offensive RDs). His stocks are very high. It is good moment for selling him for a very nice return.

What is an alternative? Playing with Skjei, Staal at top4 D? We have plenty LD prospects but none of them is expected to be top pairing LD. I think It can be extremely difficult to get a top LD in the next 2-3 years. Trading ADA could solve that problem."

you can trade other players for that LHD?

Exactly, and the Rangers have a boatload of valuable young players they can afford to move for a big upgrade, when the time comes. I don’t envision us having to subtract quality from our roster to get what we want in any future trades

Can't believe Sean freakin Day has me F5ing on the nicest weather day of the year so far.

Lundkvist is a 2 way D but I’m sure people who’ve never seen him play see small-ish Swede and assume otherwise. Fox is very much a 2-way D as well, and DeAngelo is hardly one dimensional either. How many players anywhere near him offensively play with as much of an edge as he does? And it’s a LOT easier to help develop these guys defense skills than teach the kind of offensive skill they have. Trouba is the easily the most replaceable guy here.

Our future at LD has lots of bigger guys who play a heavy game in Lindgren, Miller, Rykov, etc.

I would actually classify Trouba as a 0-way defenseman.

Hopefully the Rangers set a deadline for Kreider to accept their final contract offer. Once that passes we got to trade him. I wonder if that deadline has passed now and if Gorts is receiving offers and sending counter proposals on him.

Not sure what they have to do with it. We’re talking giving Kreider a 7 year deal

Yeah I know that.... Kreider can help this team for at least 2/3rds if that contract, but we have $$$ tied up in useless players

Smith & Staal playing D for the Rangers ends soon enough. Smith has barely been playing there and the amount of games Staal plays there next year chances are likely as low.

How many names can you come up with that have done what DeAngelo is doing now over the last 10 years in the entirety of the NHL?

Lundkvist is not here. He is hardly a sure thing. He is just as sure as Miller is on the left side or Rykov. You can't just pretend like we only have prospects on one and not the other.

The alternative is doing exactly what we did with the right side with the left side. Seek opportunities that present themselves and draft responsibly. It's not a mistake that 2 years ago, our right side looked like shit and now it looks like one of the best in the league. And it's not hard to imagine that happening to our left side in rather quick time, once JG makes it a priority.

ADA would be the most valuable thing we have ever traded away. He is more important than McD, Nash, or Kreider today. He is a high octane RD who is entering his 5-6 prime years. I have seen a lot of people fear we will end up like Buffalo if we trade Kreider. But we are much more likely to end up like them if we are moving talent like ADA that comes around once every decade or two.

I also don't understand your obsession with moving ADA instead of Fox or Trouba. ADA is better than Trouba. Talk about suspect D. And on top of that, the guy is just not that good offensively. ADA is also better than Fox, the difference being Fox is a good ol' boy and the type of guy the brass gushes over publicy. That doesn't change the fact that ADA is the most important on ice player. He, along with Panarin, is what has made our Power Play a force.

You would think, after 20 years of trying garbage on the right side and watching a PP trip over itself year after year and coach after coach, that it would be so obvious how important ADA is. I guess not.

I don’t think it’s possible that he hasn’t been doing both this whole time.

No argument there. I think Gorton is attempting to clean that slate though. Adding another contract that may be harmful late in its term may not be smart as they’ll be back where they are now again in 4-5 years

Day could be tired of being in the ECHL and wants to be moved. Not saying much, but he and his agent know that LHD is the biggest strength of this system and if he's not playing over Geertsen and others in the AHL, next season is probably even worse if Miller turns pro and Reunanen comes over.

At 22, he needs to personally be in the AHL and I can't see him wanting to be stuck behind many others.

I feel the fact Fox is a born & raised Ranger fan causes some bias, perhaps since I’m not from NY I don’t care where a players from at all. He is not in the same stratosphere as DeAngelo when it comes to talent, he has nowhere near that level of skating, hands, offensive IQ, or edge. Fox reminds me a lot of Pionk.
DeAngelo >>>> Fox >>>>>>>>> Trouba
