Boston is retaining 25% on Backes, but they still have some room and enough assets to get Kreider.
Maybe but I’m not seeing it

if Studnicka is off the table, Boston doesn’t have the guys I’d want to make up for the lack of a 1st

I agree. There goes one more interested party. I really hope our fans start to temper their expected returns sooner than later.

Or maybe Boston realized they dont have the chips to match what other teams are offering?

Plenty of scenarios are possible, I'm not convinced that this one move takes them out of the running.

Does Dubas have doodoo all over his face?

They gave up their higher 1st + Marleau for nothing in return, meanwhile Boston is able to get a solid, young 2nd line player for Backes + 1st.

Marleau's cap hit was slightly higher and Boston is retaining 25%. Marleau was also a 35+ contract, so even with the buyout, Carolina took the full cap hit.

While opening up more cap space?

I don't see how getting Kase keeps them from going after Kreider as well.

It really depends on whether or not they have any intention of re-signing Krug. I mean, I guess they could view Kreider strictly as a rental, let him go after the playoffs and then re-sign Krug, but I always assumed that if Boston traded for Kreider they would want to re-sign him.

Is it just me or is the league trending away from trading for expiring contracts at the deadline towards trading for guys who are signed for at least the next season as well? Seems like front offices no longer see the value in trading 1st round draft picks for pure rentals.

Would have to be a good young roster player. DeBrusk?
Can’t see why they do that deal

it’s over for Kreider to Boston

Sweeney clearly wanted to get things moving and Gorton is trying to figure the contract out still. Whether or not that blows up in his face remains to be seen

I'm not advocating that they do it, that's what it would take without a 1st or Studnicka though.

And Gorton's case, he has to be very careful the leverage doesn't start slipping away from him quickly.

Boston is out for CK. Palmieri would cost less so possibly him

I don't know about costing less. He's got another year on his contract. 22 goals and 41 points. If anything, he'll probably cost more. Look at what the devils got for Coleman.

.
But this is why I was saying that if he had no interest in a new deal CK would have been gone. Colorado is now in the drivers seat because they could get him for half the price now. Or they will simply look for a smaller deal or stand pat. They aren’t giving up a big return for a rental.

Yeah

I’d be setting a hard deadline now. Can’t be f***ing around with this contract until Monday.

If he’s not agreed to something by Sunday morning that’s it
