Confessions of a rental Dove.
Let’s start off by saying I have zero idea what Nashville is up too and if their GM was a driver I would pull him over to check for DUI, short of that he might need to be tested for concussion. Last summer after one decent outlier season where they made it into the playoffs with an older core as a Wild card team Trotts decides to go all in on July 1st for what exactly?? He signed 34 year old Stamkos to 4 x $8 Million, 33 year old Marchessault to 5 x $5.5 million, and 30 year old Skjei to a 7 x $7 million. He added this to Forsberg (30), Nyquist 35, Josi (34), and O’Reilly (34). I mean what the actual f*** Barry? How did this insane, on paper, impulse shopping spree work out for Barry you ask??…….checks NHL.com and as of this morning the Preds are 30th in the league standings with a team that has aged out???????
So
@Flair Hay I have summarized this steaming pile of dog #@$% to lay the ground work to say, I HAVE NO IDEA if they will be selling O’Reilly at the deadline? I will not try to apply any logic to what they should do because they are not working off any form of a logical plan
As an exercise in what if. Let’s assume for now O’Reilly is getting shopped
I have written novels on here about how I am a very anti pure rental guy but I would “make a hockey trade” for O’Reilly in a heartbeat.
You have built a good case of why he is “most suited” to the Jets and of course we don’t know until we plug him in.
The downside is he just turned 34 a few weeks ago and players can fall off a cliff anytime in their mid 30’s.
The positives are well worth the risk so I would go for it. ROR has a very manageable cap hit for as long as he can play 2nd line centre, and hopefully when he ages out Yager is ready to step in.
We get ROR for this spring and two more seasons if we choose or we can always trade him if he doesn’t work out.
