The point remains that no-one has yet to give a reason why O'Reilly would want to come here for a number of years to finish his career. The guy has his cup and likely is fine staying in Nashville over coming here.
Technically, he doesn’t have the choice as he has no trade protection…but in reality it’s likely NSH management gives him a choice in his destination if he was moved…but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t wish to try for another Cup…the only one who knows is him

Trots has said he'd treat him as if he had trade protection. So if O'Reilly is moved its with his blessing.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just think it's improbable he'd chose to come here.

Its subjective, but my interpretation of Trotz's stance of doing right by the veteran is as much negotiating stance as it is club loyalty or commitment.

ROR probably isn't looking to be here. Especially if he didn't want to be in Toronto. But he signed without trade protection. If Nashville has a move that is worth trading him based off the return I expect that's what they will do. ROR is a pro he knows the business side as well as anyone going back to his younger days.

If its a bad culture fit, Chevy won't make the move. I have no idea if that's the case or not.

Colorado Avalanche: Played for the Avalanche from 2009 to 2015
Buffalo Sabres: Played for the Sabres from 2015 to 2018
St. Louis Blues: Played for the Blues from 2018 to 2023
Toronto Maple Leafs: Played for the Maple Leafs in 2023
Nashville Predators: Plays for the Predators as of 2023

The guys been all over the map.. no sense debating where or if he'll get traded.. based on his career howevrr the guy been a journeyman and his family has become acustom to it.. this all conjecture

Or Trotz thinks this is a one off year and keeps his vets and uses the abundance of picks he has to build around his vets in the offaeason.

Hard to say which way they lean here but he has 5 picks in the first two rounds this draft.

Lots of ways this can go for them, agreed. I think whether they keep him or not is driven primarily by what they have on the table for him.

ROR is wishful thinking unfortunately.

Rakell would be such a great fit and has term, but are Penguins too stubborn to wave the white flag and sell?

Really want Ferraro, but will the sharks actually sell on him???

Add Donato, Greenway and Dumoulin.

Donato plays centre, but could also play wing with Lowry and Niederreiter giving the line some scoring touch and speed.

Greenway offers size on the forecheck and net front presence.

Dumoulin a veteran who brings decent size and 81 games of playoff experience.

If anything I'd be looking at upgrading Appelton and the fourth lines offense.
Cody Glass to me would be the ideal replacement for Appleton. He's still young, he's an equally good skater. But he's shown this year he can get inside to generate scoring chances, and generate possession time. The fact he takes draws too is something that becomes amplified in the playoffs, when a secondary center is often sent out on the ice in defensive zone situations. I believe he also played a bit with Nino in 2022-23 so it's not like he would have no chemistry with existing players.

No playoff experience would be the one set back, but I still like the idea of a local kid making the Jets. Maybe there is something extra about playing at home since a few Winnipeggers/Manitobans have put daggers in the Jets playoff hopes before.

This is exactly why I want no part of Risto.
When he was playing for Buffalo, he made Tyler Myers look like Bobby Orr.
There have been plenty of players who left Buffalo and looked much better

I think that you need to take into consideration how bad a team is and how toxic an environment is when assessing a player.

If you put him beside Samberg (who made both Pionk and Schmidt look good) and put Helle behind him, the bumps on his game might get smoothed out

people getting their news from facebook is the reason the world's gone to hell in a handbasket

jets news probably fine though
Agree on Facebook news being a reason why the world has gone to hell, but would disagree on the Jets news being fine. Once the algorithm figures out you out, you're subject to clickbate on any matter.

For the Jets alone, there's a few hundred similarly named Winnipeg Jets pages, none of which I've liked or joined, but the algorithm knows I like hockey & I'm spoon fed them one after the other.

Then there's the bots providing one lie after another, which nearly always have headline ending with a question mark & in nearly all cases the answer to any rational person is no. There's a term for that town as "Betteridge's Law of Headlines."

My feed has become 9/10th's click bate with virtually no posts visible from friends or groups anymore. This is particularly true when traditionally scrolling thru my feed. The TikTok inspired "Facebook Reels" litters the platform & if I click on anything within Reels, that engagement has them "reeling" me in for more. I think I've seen more John McEnroe serve & volley points in the last year than I did in the early 80's.

Nearly all my real & desired social engagement comes from the notifications icon which to date hasn't been spam fed.

The original question you responded to was where to get hockey news & like conventional news it's from traditional media sources. My go-to each morning is Illegal Curve, particularly good for game day rosters & links to conventional news stories from the Free Press, Winnipeg Sun, The Athletic, TSN, Sportsnet & relevant columnists. I've avoided Twitter since it was renamed X, but I used to follow Garret, Aavco Cup & Seravelli to name a few.

I feel like that is how we ended up with Toffoli last season and the strategy failed.

I think that is where ROR comes in on the second line. He could help generate offense while being good on Defense. I don’t mind adding forwards to help with offense but only if they are 200 foot players that are plus defensive players. We need this second line to step up too. They weren’t given a chance last playoffs because we loaded up (and Perfetti was in a different stage).

Not sure how it will play out but I believe our outcome in the post season will be determined by people wearing Jets uniforms today. We shall live and die by this roster.

I think the Jets will certainly make some deals, but unless a truly golden opportunity presents itself, we'll be waiting until deadline day for any trade to occur.

Any move before Friday results in either a roster player traded or a player being waived. The organization is loyal, some might say to a fault, and it's a fair statement that every member of the 23 man roster has played key roles in getting this team to where it is. They each deserve to be part of the playoff run, even if it's on the bench. This all changes on Friday when the 23 man roster limit is expanded.

I'll be surprised if Chevy makes a deal before then.

Serious question. What does he bring to the Jets?
Seriously?
He'd be top 6 in scoring among our forwards.
He has five 20 goal seasons, about to have his sixth.
He's bigger than anyone on our second line.
With our struggle to score lately, and playoff hockey tougher to score, he would be a welcome addition to our middle 6 forwards.

That's my point

I'm sure TNSE would prefer Pionk too... but the trade for Risto would be there if they knew Pionk was walking this summer

I've been saying this for weeks

Like I said, if think if Chevy has been talking about Risto, then it's because Pionk is either gone or they are so far apart in terms of ask that he doesn't think it will get done

Pionk has had a great season, but let's not forget the shitshows of past years
Other than J Mo has any Jets defenseman had a real good playoff? What separates Pionk from Samberg, De Melo, and Stanley in the playoffs, other than his very last playoff game? Pionk's stepped up as the #1 when Morrissey was out, I'm not sure anyone else on this team could handle those minutes.

It's possible that adding Ristolainen could be trying to get 3 good d pairings like the Jets had 2018 and 2019. If Scott Arniel is a big enough fan to start Stanley in the playoffs is Ristolainen a better fit to generate offense than Miller? And at least a form of insurance if De Melo goes down or struggles? I'd say Ristolainen is probably better suited to a 22-24 minute game than De Melo.

This is one player I could see Chevy considering, but more because he is unsure of De Melo , instead of Pionk. A little competition for playing time never hurt. And I don't think it would close the door on re-signing Pionk but make the playoffs the case for it.
