I think that you need to take into consideration how bad a team is and how toxic an environment is when assessing a player.

If you put him beside Samberg (who made both Pionk and Schmidt look good) and put Helle behind him, the bumps on his game might get smoothed out

But this reasoning doesn't work with Cozens? Why is that?
He is not a good player try watching him.
I don't want to play 5.1 million and hope that player "might" smooth out his bumps.

Pretty much the same as Pionk though. Pionk's had a good year after a number of dodgy ones. Likely down to the progression of Samberg. I'd take Risto as 3d for the stretch and his nect 2 years at $5m over Pionk's next 5 years at $6+m.

He'd be top 6 in scoring among our forwards.
He has five 20 goal seasons, about to have his sixth.
He's bigger than anyone on our second line.
With our struggle to score lately, and playoff hockey tougher to score, he would be a welcome addition to our middle 6 forwards.

Take a chill pill it was a serious question. Who are you going to move off of our second line for him? He is 6 ft tall and 175 lb and has less points than Perfetti or Ehlers. Are you starting him as a second line center?

i wouldn't mind bjorkstrand, unless the Jets know full certainty that Ehlers is walking (which given the fact he's still on the team leads me to think they believe he is re-signing), i think id rather have a rental winger than one w/ term.

Center is a bit of a different story though.

I think if Chevy does make a deal and it's possible he likes what he sees on this team and does nothing, if not he will pluck a player or players that no one is talking about. It's going to be an interesting week.

Honestly - if Pionk is asking more than 7 mil I am in the let him walk camp, if we resign Ehlers. I’m not sure if we have the cap room.

However - it all depends on if we get a rd with some term at the TDL.

It will be a wild off season - so there will be opportunities to offer sheet rfas.

There is just so much undecided or up in the air right now. It would have been nice to lock in Samberg and Vilardi to understand how much they cost, as well as Ehlers.

If we don’t have any of them locked in before the TDL - it is going to be a wild off season.

I think Pionk is where we upgrade our RD. If Chevy can pull off a miracle and get one of Parayko, Pulock, Dobson, or Andersson, then we should let Pionk walk at FA, but not trade him. He's been playing to good this season and we’ll need that in the playoffs.
My issue with Pionk is he up for a new contract and he will want to get paid based on his play this season, but his play this season has been an outlier and I don’t think he will be able to repeat it again next season.
Now, if he was willing to re-sign affordable, then sure keep him, upgrade our top pairing RD, and move DeMelo to the 3rd pair.

As far as your second part, i think the Jets are getting Tage Thompson from Buffalo for a 1st.

I'm not sure why the Jets need more defense for that line. Jets are tops in the NHL in goals against and that line of Ehlers-Namestnikov-Perfetti has been quite strong defensively. My larger concern is that the Jets' rely a lot on their PP for offense and if the Scheifele line is shut down in the playoffs they won't have enough secondary scoring. If they are looking to strengthen their middle 6 forward lines I think they need to consider adding a forward that can improve the offense either with Ehlers line or perhaps replacing Appleton.

line 2 and 3 have gone through spurts of hot streaks. and perhaps they get hot in the POs. however i do think they'd benefit from a middle-6 Fwd upgrade.

for the year;
ehlers-names-perfetti: are +1 in GF vs xGF
nino-lowry-appleton: are -2 in GF vs xGF

at 5v5 CSV is above-average at finishing, makes sense b/c they have their 3 best finishers on a single line, but outside of them the lineup is mid. a middle-6F shouldn't be a tall task to find or cost an exorbitant amount.

I trust the PP to turn it around though, not sure if they maintain their current efficiency & i always question the amount of penalties get called in the POs especially as series progress.

Chevy won't overpay for Pionk, he never does. If you're right and he wants you much based on this year's playoff, then Chevy Will likely grab Risto or someone like him at the TDL

It’s possible that Ehlers is waiting to see what Chevy does at the TDL before making a final decision on staying or going. He could be just as tired as us with the revolving door at 2C and wants a constant partner to build line chemistry with.

Would depend heavily on the cost. I wouldn’t cripple our team acquiring one, but I think it’s worth taking a well placed hit.
Lambert + 1st + to start.
Yager and Salo are off the table.
I’d happily offer up Perfetti if Ehlers was extended long term.
But as I’ve said many times…2C should be our priority and no other big moves should be made until we have that issue dealt with.
