OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: No 3peat for the Swifts

I thought Slay was more of a zone CB while the Steelers run with man CBs.

From what I remember over the past 2 seasons (JPJ arrival) they let him play man to man and the rest of the DB's play zone.

Also remember that the Steelers blitzed the least amount compared to other teams, so they tend to prefer zone.

I can't remember the last time a team paid big money to a QB plus 2 WR's. Probably have to go back to the Rams Greatest Show on Turf days.

While disappointed the Steelers can't acquire him, this will ensure the Bengals can't fill out the rest of their roster with quality players.

Not that I expected the Steelers to sign Higgins, but Higgins getting tagged really screws with the WR market and makes it more difficult to sign one of the top UFA WRs. I was hoping to swoop in and pull off Cooper or Godwin as other teams were focusing on Higgins, I have a feeling this probably pushes the Steelers more towards the Brown/Hopkins/Slayton group.

I don't mind Slayton so it's whatever if they sign him as their WR2, but Higgins being off the table definitely complicates things. It makes me feel drafting a WR becomes more likely, which I'm not crazy about doing.

I don't think it's a scheme fit for the Steelers but the Eagles are releasing Darius Slay. Another good CB in free agency, might open up some opportunities to sign a lesser CB that will be getting less attention now.

It’s a really nice crop of CBs in free agency so they should be able to get a nice player.

I’m hoping for one of the younger options since a 34 year old CB just kicks the can down the road, but I could see some value in Slay as a good veteran mentor for Porter and Trice.

The Steelers really need to come out with 2 WRs in the draft and/or FA. And I think they'll draft one with their 1st two picks. The other pick will be a DL.

Reason being is that Pickens is a huge question mark in terms of his temperament and production this year. If either goes sideways, you won't see him in a Steelers uniform much longer.

Murphy from the Vikings is a guy I've had my eye on that I like. Very good coverage CB who led the league in interceptions last year, he's only 27 right now.

He signed for 2 years at $8.75 million a year 2 years ago, so I figure he'd be looking at something like $12 million a year for 2-3 years now.

I'd definitely bring him here if he's interested in playing here, but I'm still not crazy about signing a 34 year old CB.

They're apparently giving Pickens a new deal this off-season so I don't think they need to add 2 WRs.

They can go into next year with Pickens, a #2 and Austin as their top-3 WRs, but they need to get an actual #2 WR to fill that role. They can't go with some Van Jefferson crap like they did last year.

I heard that rumor and I think that's a huge mistake. They have the cap room if Pickens blows up this year (in a good way).

If things go downhill, then you're locked in at a higher price than you want to be at, plus you got a malcontent on your team.

It's akin to extending Sully when he's already got term on his contract. It's an unnecessary and potentially unforced error.

Most likely they Tag him next season but they aren’t going to trade him and I don’t expect them to draft and sign a wr. No need when who ever is qb will only throw it 26 times a game

Want to guess what Harris' career YPC is? It's literally 3.9 on the nose.
Surely it's a coincidence. But yea let's ride this supposed bell cow to a championship

When you say "tag" are you meaning picking up/declining his 5th year option?

I'd be a lot more bullish on that last sentence if it wasn't for Trice being made of glass and remembering Peterson kicking that can about six inches down the road.

Where did you read about a new deal for Pickens? Rooney's comments made it sound like he'd stay here without one and I haven't seen anything that contradicts that.
