I really really don't want to trade Buch

As is we don't have 12 NHL forwards (or, ideally, 12 forwards that should be in the NHL). We are already likely losing Fast and Kreider. Howden is stapled to the team despite being one of the worst regular forwards in the NHL. And we all pretty universally acknowledge that our forward prospects outside of Barron and Kravtsov really don't exist. I just don't see any logic for trading Buch unless it's for a bonafide top 4 LHD and even then im not keen on it.

Gauthier at least helps. Not specifically to replace Buch or whomever, but adding a young forward with potential that is ready to try and grab a regular NHL spot was a smart move to help provide some cushion there.

I'm still hung up on the logistics of keeping Kreider going into the home stretch here. Gorton has to stop negotiating at some point and either sign him or trade him. He can't have merely a basis for a deal or handshake. Once we get past the deadline, Kreider's agent has us facing their asking price or him walking for nothing.

Gorton can certainly do both, but I don't see how he can do both well at the same time. I can live with either outcome regardless of my wishes. But Kreider cannot be a ranger after the deadline without an extension. And Gorton shouldn't be talking to the agent on deadline day.

Why are people down on Kaut? 16 points in 31 games in the AHL at 20 years old. He's in his D+2 season and after a very slow start has proven to be improving.

As an aside, is his 2nd season after his drat year considered D+2 or D+1? Is 'D' his season after his draft year?
"D+1" is the year immediately after which you are drafted.

His heart condition plus his limited upside make him a less desirable target for me.
What exactly is the condition? You have been mentioning for a while but I feel as though if its monitored and he takes meds it should be fine. His ceiling may be a middle 6 guy but i see no issue with that if we also get a 1st rounder. You cant expect to come out with 2 stars for a rental top line F.

I mean...sure...but his numbers weren't even as good as lias... And he's been bustville for a while now.

Kaut still has better numbers than:
Kravtsov
Wahlstrom
Kupari
Veleno

Quick selection of the other guys from his draft year who have played in the AHL this year.

Today was my original prediction that Gorton would start heavily shopping Kreider if they couldn't come to a contract agreement

But this is going to go down to the wire, I think

By Saturday if they can reach a new deal is when Gorton probably changes course

Probably fair assumption that Kaut/Beecher level players are the headline prospects in a Kreider deal.

Very much in the Howden/Hajek mold. 100% expected and hard to argue not “good value.” But also hard to get too excited about that and a pick in the 26-31 range.

Call me spoiled.

There's probably a 75% chance the team doesn't even make that pick though. Very very good chance it gets moved for a more established player

I didn’t have a problem trading Nash or Zucc because they were 31-33 years old and Our team was not good. Hayes I liked and had some interest in but I felt with Chytil and Andersson (at the time) he wasn’t needed. Kreider is different. Despite what some claim he is so hard to replace what he brings. He has become a leader especially with the younger kids. The KZB line is almost impossible to stop because of their chemistry and skill and they are all fairly young. If Kreider was 31 then I completely understand but he is still in his late 20’s and keeps himself in better shape than guys 5 years younger. Other than the blood clot issue he hadn’t had any significant injury to worry about. Like I’ve always said if he is asking for a monster deal I understand walking away but personally I think he wants to be here. The Shattenkirk and Trouba contracts really hurt now not just because of Kreider but even Strome and Tony D

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fast is the only guy dealt at the deadline. Along with maybe mckegg

Then some summer moves. I see Skjei gone and that money going to DeAngelo.

I see hank gone one way or another.

Staal and or smith bought out.

I think they may try and keep this forward group together mostly at least thru next season

I think one has to include Lindgren and Lemieux in with Howden, Hajek grouping. So while still a mixed bag, there is some useful stuff which has already come from that those sorts of deals.

The picks they added, some of that too has at least turned into promising prospects.

Also while so far none of the conditions the Rangers received back from selling at previous deadlines have come to fruition, I'm speculating there will be some of that in there too. Whether those conditions are easier to be met or not, no idea.

BOS stopped them fairly well.

This latest run from Kreider is his best ever. Yes. But that doesn’t mean he is this player going forward. IF he is, he will decline by the time the next 7 years are up. We prob aren’t real contenders for another 2-3.
Trade him.

I really don't think Gorton wants to be sitting in his office on Monday at 5PM with an unsigned Kreider and basically the same roster as he started with. If Kreider is a Ranger on Tuesday without a contract, it means they're damn close to signing one. Gorton is going to want to create some cap flexibility for himself between now and Monday instead of negotiating trades in the summer when teams know he's up against the cap.

If Kreider is still here and unsigned, I expect at least one of Buchnevich, Strome, or Skjei to be gone, and the Rangers to have a final path forward on dealing with Hank.
