So Bob reiterated

1). A 1st
2) A top prospect
3) 3rd element -player, prospect or pick
4) conditional pick if Kreider re-signs where he’s traded
Bob didn’t break a lot of new ground here. Most of us could have come up with a similar shopping list.

What was unsaid was there’s really been no leaks about any conversation between Gorton and Keator. If they were no ongoing negotiations, the Rangers would be telling teams Kreider was available to pump up offers and that would be widely leaked and Keator would be leaking to teams where Kreider has the most interest.

All of which means there is still hope.

And just missing the playoffs only to get the 11th-14th pick is no guarantee said pick will have any impact on the team in the next 3-5 years.

Not only that, this organization and FO wants to move forward. They are not here trying to tank for a top 3 or top 5 pick, or banking on the lottery system and getting lucky twice. They would rather have this young group make the playoffs. Just as important.

Not for nothing, but when @Edge drops the idea that in the right deal, Miller or Kravtsov could be available, that should be an indication that this organization isn’t necessarily just penciling in prospects as givens. They are going to explore trades for younger players that are already at the NHL. So, the draft isn’t necessarily going to be what the Rangers are relying on to complete this build. If they do get a 1st if they trade Kreider, it’s more likely than not going to be used to add an NHL-ready player and not so much to trade up in the first round.

Kaut+1 would be a very fair return.

@Edge can correct me if I'm wrong, but the Rangers really liked him in his draft year.
I'm pretty sure Kaut has went the way of Lias... disappointing.

Definitely not what I want.

Of all the scouted teams... TB and Cirelli is the only thing that interests me

Teams have to be salivating over what Kreider will bring to their teams chances of winning a Cup.

He did it all tonight. It was like he was putting on a show for the scouts.

question is will the Rangers get back what he is worth right now? My Goodness

St Louis has to feel Dallas on their heels while the Avs have the prospects and with these injuries they are sending the message they give up if they don’t make a splash IMO. Boston probably should go all in b/c of the age of their Vets but we will see.

If you haven’t noticed, I think that, unless Kreider is determined to hit the big payday, Kreider isn’t getting dealt.

IMO if Gorton had zero interest in possibly keeping Kreider he would be gone by now. Now there are only a few teams left who all have picks in the 26-31 range and either don’t have good farm systems or aren’t willing to give up one of their top 2 prospects

In Sakic’s defense I wouldn’t move any of my top prospects this year either

I really do think the Bruins are ultimately gonna be the team to pony up should Kreider go

At this point, I'd rather re-sign him than accept a deal that wasn't what I wanted. He is, by far, the hottest trade commodity we've had, and I'm including McD in that.

And just missing the playoffs only to get the 11th-14th pick is no guarantee said pick will have any impact on the team in the next 3-5 years.

Of course it's no guarantee, but it is the most historically viable way to be good: Drafting impact forwards high in the draft.

Not only that, this organization and FO wants to move forward.

We don't know EXACTLY what this front office wants. They've said "patience," and they've said winning the Kakko derby speeds things up. We don't know what that truly means.

What I can tell you is, getting one of about 5-6 forwards in this draft will effectively end the need to worry about selling off again for a very, very long time.

They are not here trying to tank for a top 3 or top 5 pick, or banking on the lottery system and getting lucky twice. They would rather have this young group make the playoffs. Just as important.

I vehemently, unendingly disagree that making the playoffs this year is just as important as acquiring legitimate top-line or top-6 talent. Maybe the argument is, these guys are no sure thing, and trying to tank is no sure thing that we get them anyway. Ok, fair enough.

But no, making the playoffs this year is no more important for this core than making the playoffs last year was, which is to say, it's not at all important.

Eventually yes, they have to start winning. But I don't even think for a group of under-25 players making up your core, that it's necessary even next year. Coincidentally, though, I do think they will be too good to miss the playoffs next year. They could even win a round.

This year there is no chance of serious advancement. Which is why this is their last chance to get a top talent and they have to find a way to capitalize. Increase lottery odds, or just move up in the draft order nothwithstanding the lottery, and acquire assets to move up for a top player if necessary. Vital.

go
Boston has a shit farm system and the 31st overall pick. I mean if we are gonna trade Kreider then we should get close to what we want otherwise it’s a steal for Boston. It’s Colorado or nothing

I’m getting more and more nervous about this situation so I’m just gonna start hoping for a big fat cake and eating it too.

JGJD deals Kreider for a handsome return and then he resigns with the Rangers on a discount 6.75/6 first thing in July.

And they win the lottery

Shit

Great we get Tampa’s pick at 28-31 and the devils got vancouvers which will be much better

Your entire post is your feelings and opinions. Dont pass them off as fact. Trying to say that making the playoffs wont help this group moving forward is absurd. Absurd. And you say its just as unimportant as it was for last year’s team. Incredibly lazy. Did last year’s team have Panarin? Trouba? Kakko? The emergence of DeAngelo? Fox? Did it have Chytil in his 3rd year now showing signs where he can take over with his size and skill at times? Did it have Igor? And then you take your long reach a step further that it might not even be important for the growth of this group to make the playoffs next year.

The leaps that are being attempted to push a narrative and angle are becoming endless

Also, stating getting one of 5-6 forwards in this draft, none of which are a guarantee, will automatically solve any and all problems moving forward. All a guess.
