Absolutely love posters saying we will or won't get anything for Krieder. I get we should temper our expectations but all it takes is one dim witted or desperate Gm to make such offer.

If all GM's practiced self control there would likely not be a need for a salary cap or the league to review trades to a certain extent.

Kreider isn't getting a 1st, top prospect, and an impactful roster player unless Gorton allows a team to negotiate an extension with him.

1st and a B prospect. A throw-in roster player if the team needs cap relief. The Toffoli deal set the market.

The other way to look at this, (and I've had someone else at another site tell me this based on a reliable source he has), is that the Rangers are only moving Kreider IF they get a king's ransom.

Listening to Dave Pagnotta. Says Avs and Bruins still heavy on CK (especially the former). The Avs have him first on their desired list.
Even said the islanders are still lurking potentially since its a fact they are interested in Kreider.
Gorton has not allowed anyone to talk to Kreider’s agent
Which means they’re really trying to sign him.

Let's say that is the game plan. At what point do they say the deals aren't sufficient and we will re-sign? It has to be a day before the deadline. We can't let him go past the deadline and surrender that much leverage.

There's a lot to pull together here, but, @Edge has made it no secret that the Rangers, to put it kindly, would not be upset at all if Lundqvist announced his retirement. My guess is that if the Rangers and Kreider were close enough on a deal that they believed they could get something done before July 1, they wouldn't consider that they'd have to trade Kreider by Monday. @Edge has said it...Gorton has a lot of possibilities here.

I could certainly see them angling for that, but I'm not sure they can get it for a rental. Plus teams know they're staring down a pretty tight cap situation if they elect to keep him. Though who knows what other moves are in play right now.

:shakehead

Although I guess shout out to Gorton if that’s true. Dudes been sticking to his guns about getting a kings ransom for Kreider for 18 months now

Sticking to your guns so much that you’re willing to sign a potentially bad deal

I think Gorton has a lot more options than people think.

He does. He has more flexibility than almost anyone.

I don't think the high ask for Kreider is anything other than what we see for anyone during the TDL. You always start your ask high and then adjust from there.

I don’t even know what “made [player] available” even means. That sounds like a synonym for “not doing your job.” If another teams calls and asks about him you’re going to say not interested too bad before even listening to what the other guy has to say?

I am unsure how good GMs actually negotiate, I am under the impression they put out realistic parameters and if anyone inquires it gets more and more specific as the talks go on.

If not they are basically boxing themselves in. A 1st, prospect, and probably some conditional thing(s) is what we have seen come out of the Rangers selling for the most part, I doubt they went into all those deals saying we want this that or the other thing specifically or we going to walk.

Do they add to a parameter, or subtract based on the their perception of the market and interest in their original parameters? Seems logical to me.

Not so much they ask for the moon because they know they will not get it. They hope the moon is offered yet have the fall back position of taking what was originally within their parameters.
