Kreider isn't getting a 1st, top prospect, and an impactful roster player unless Gorton allows a team to negotiate an extension with him.

1st and a B prospect. A throw-in roster player if the team needs cap relief. The Toffoli deal set the market.

I think Kreider has been better than Toffoli lately though and overall is a better player...it also sounds like perhaps that's just what the Rangers are doing now, trying to scare up a deal and then saying ok if we like the deal you can talk to his agent and see if an extension can be negotiated. Sounds tenous and complex but maybe they get the most value out of it if they can swing it

I’m glad our asking price is high BUT I don’t see anybody paying that unless they are very confident they can resign him or at least talk to his agent now. Also the two teams most involved are the Bruins and Colorado which means we are looking at pick 30 or 31 most likely. Boston has a bad farm system too. Colorado obviously had prospects I would love to get but they aren’t giving them up unless Kreider signs with them as part of the trade. Look it’s no secret I want us to keep Kreider because I feel we are very close to competing and he brings so much things on and off the ice. If we have to trade him it better be for a haul and not a subpar package

Just curious would you guys have been ok with Carolina or Toronto’s first and Gauthier for Kreider type trade? Maybe add a third as well?

Why is there so much speculation over Kreider’s return? They traded McDonagh, Nash, Zuccarello, and Hayes at the TDL. We should have a good idea of the return. I know he’s the best rental available, but he’s still a rental. There’s nothing wrong with setting your expectations low.

This is Sergachev all over again. I don’t want to read people bitching over the return for years after the fact like that trade.

I agree, and in addition, if you are trading a rental at the deadline — how can a GM do a bad job? It’s like blaming the auctioneer at an auction for there not being any interest in an item.

McD and Miller were very different, neither were rentals. Gorton manufacture a higher offer for a rental. A GM will give him a bid and tell it to take it or leave it, and the highest bidder seals the deal. Nobody will bid against themselves.

Kreider is the best player available, but if the price goes up as high as discussed, more players will become available. We are not getting a 1st, Kyrou/Newhook plus offer for Kreider.

With that said, you can always dream about hitting a home run. Erat for Forsberg.

I do not understand the difference between the Rangers have not made Kreider available and them talking to every GM who calls and asks about him?

What are they responding with, no he's not available, call back later?

He absolutely has been a better player. Which is why he's getting a 1st and not a 2nd like Toffoli. I think the roster player, if it came down to it, would likely be better than Schaller and I would expect a prospect who is playing pro hockey over a kid in college with some question marks.

. I honestly think they want to keep him but are only trading him if somebody gives in to their demands

So was the McIlrath pick even though some people on here still say he's an NHLer
A child born when Jessiman was picked thinks your taste in music sucks and their safety school is Boston College.

A child born when McIlrath was picked has never known a world without Siri and thinks camera doorbells are completely normal.

Take Elsa's advice and just let it go.

that’s called asking for the moon because you aren’t really looking to trade the player unless you’re blown away.
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too

Same shit Gorton was doing with Georgiev when it’s obvious no one is trading a top 6 forward for a goalie who’s done much of nothing

Kreider > Toffoli by a margin.

If that's accurate on the ask, I think the Rangers get it unless they're getting a younger RFA with term.

Right, which is why he's getting a 1st where Toffoli got a 2nd. That's a pretty significant piece in this draft year. I also think they'll get the roster throw-in, but a better one than Schaller. The Bruins would need to clear a body and some cap space. Colorado doesn't need the space but Jost seems to be a cast-off option at this point.

not going to happen. I'll eat my own shit and livestream it to you guys if we get Newhook.
I saw someone eat there own puke for 60$ 40 years ago and still have night terrors thinking about it so could you at least warn the board about the content of the video. Would have no interest seeing it lol

I find it bizarre to have that reaction to a draft pick choice from almost two decades ago. ymmv

"that reaction"? You make it sound like I'm flying off the handle.

The time elapsed doesn't make the pick any less stupid. In fact it's made it look even worse.

Also, from a personal perspective, I had a friend growing up who played against Hugh on some local travel teams. He was talking to me about how he couldn't believe that people had him pegged as a first round pick. Talked nonstop about how bad of skater he was. We were watching the draft together when the Rangers picked him, he pointed directly in my face and laughed. Said he would never sniff the NHL. He was right.

Gorton did the right thing. No need to trade a young goalie unless you get what you want. I think some people act like we are a bottom feeder like the Kings. We are pretty damn close and if not for being in such a tough division I think we would be in the playoffs
