LA being able to amass one of the best prospect pools in the league in a tight turnaround has been something

Madden adds to just an embarrassment of riches at forward for them.

Wonder if Gorton looks to move one of our defensive prospects for one of LA’s forwards
For sure their forward depth is even better than our d depth. Not sure about their goalie situation/depth

Gorton has to be licking his chops right now.

Tyler Madden is a legit prospect. He would have been the best prospect we acquired in any of our moves at a deadline the last few years. Projects as a second line player and has legitimate upside and a high floor wherein he probably at least becomes a Fast-esque player that can play capable 3rd line minutes and compliment your middle 6. Plus a second and Schaller who is still a serviceable fourth line player. That’s a damn good return for a player Kreider is more valuable than.

If we do move him, Kreider is the best forward on the market and really the only other top 6 winger teams will be targeting will be Pageau. The potential for a bidding war is high. I think we can expect AT LEAST a first, and a B+ prospect in Madden’s tier and perhaps even a bit more if a team gets desperate. This is very encouraging.

What makes this even more spicy is that Gorton and JD have more leverage than in prior deadlines here, where we knew those guys were goners (unless you were wearing horse blinders). They really don’t have to move Kreider and moving assets to keep him in the picture isn’t in any sense of the word a stretch. Compound that with the fact that there seems to be an appetite for guys with term or team control (Coleman, Zucker) and we have the supply (Skjei, Strome, Buchnevich, DeAngelo - please no to the latter).

My point is that given these strong returns for every seller thus far, Gorton can start to aggressively strum up a market for his alternatives. He can kick the tires with Skjei. He can take calls on Buchnevich and Strome. He can do this to provide him with more options that further give him leverage. Teams know it’s unlikely they deal all of those assets at once and that some would be off the market if the other moves, prompting them to want to be the first to make a move and get their guy before the Rangers rescind him from the trade block. If Strome and Skjei look like they might go, a teams chances to land Kreider could be in jeopardy. Classic smoke and mirror approach. It increases the likelihood a team attempts to blow his doors down for Kreider so he is forced to move him.

Maybe I’m optimistic but this is shaping up exactly how we drew it up.

Toffoli getting traded to a place Kreider probably has on his NTC list is excellent.
I doubt any NHLer has Vancouver on his no trade list. I have seen this a few times and don't think any of you get out. It is not Winnipeg. Van is warmer then most USA NHL cities(almost never snows, basically 45-50ish all winter), is easily the most beautiful large city in north America, has a ton todo and very good looking woman. It is a mix of Miami(night life, restaurants and wealth), Hollywood(a lot of filming goes on) and San Jose(very techie, especially with video gaming industry) but a Canadian version and is right on the water but butted up against the mountains.

I’m amazed toffoli brought back a 2nd and Tyler Madden. Crazy

I’m even more amazed at what Blake Coleman brought. Back

move Strome now
Strome is 26 with RFA status. He should be able to bring back more than Toffoli just did.

SELL SELL SELL.

Re-sign Kreider. You can get enough in return for Strome to quench the thirst for a trade to add more assets.

Definitely sort of lends credibility to the base we've been kicking around for months. 1st, B prospect and a spare roster player. I'm lukewarm on Madden but this should give Gorton some good leverage in trade talks.

Don't discount the significance of jumping from a 2nd to a 1st though. That's a lot of value in a pretty deep draft class.

Hoping type of deal going down early indicates some want to avoid a bidding war.

Avs should get a goalie

Blues, Bruins and Avs could really use a Kreider while those trailing those big have to ask themselves if they want compete or fall further behind the big 3.

Which teams in the race could use a third line center like Strome?

It's been reported he has all Canadian teams on his no trade list. It's not a personal offense, he just doesn't want to live in a different country, or maybe he doesn't want to deal with the media.
