Everyone keeps saying this, but how is Foote and 1st better than Hajek, Howden, Namestnikov, a 1st and a conditional 1st the turned into a 2nd? Even if you were to say the Miller = Names+2nd it's still McD for Hajek, Howden and a 1st....

EDIT to add, by no means do I think we got the best value for McD and Miller, but claiming Coleman got more just seems a big leap in logic

If that Vancouver pick becomes a higher one it could very well be. If Vancouver finds a way to win the division then probably no...but that Vancouver pick could be anywhere from 16-???? or if they don't make playoffs lottery unprotected pick next year???

The Blues and a Bruins seem to be the most interested which mean that the first rounder we get is 29-31....not exactly exciting lol. At least the Devils got a lottery pick for Hall and they got Vancouver’s puck for Coleman plus last years first round pick

I'm not contract law specialist but he would have to pay that $1MM bonus back if he retired after receiving on July 1st or that $1MM would count against the cap if the Rangers chose to let him keep it.

I believe his actual salary is $4.5MM next year so he'd be walking away from $3.5MM.

He would be forfeiting $4.5M. He is owed $5.5M next year, and $1M is in bonuses.

They don't have to sue him for it. They can give him a job with the organization as well. Following his retirement.

I'm pretty sure the Hall pick is lottery protected but you are still 100 percent right. Trading with a team like the Coyotes is much better than trading with two potential Stanley cup finalists.

Hall pick is top-3 protected. If the pick ends up being one of the 1st 3, the Devils will get the Yotes 2021 1st rounder instead

One thing I wanted to mention. People talk about how Coleman has some additional value because of the extra year. We have to keep in mind that the fact that a contract is expiring holds value as well. Some teams wouldn’t be able to fit in even Coleman’s $1.8m for an extra year. So you have more buyers out there for the expiring contract... higher demand = higher value.

A team like Boston or St Louis *wants* the expiring contract rather than the one with term.

I’d buy it more if it wasn’t merely $1.8 (or $2.1 the point stands) which is very easy to keep. There are a lot of different team-specific circumstances to any trade and in this case the extra year at low AAV was a big benefit to TBL that definitely showed in the price they paid.
