What kind of contract is ADA expected to sign? Sure, he's having a great season but it's just one great season. He's still RFA so he can't get what he wants yet. Worst case scenario, it goes to arbitration and he gets rewards a high one-year salary based on this year's performance and Rangers are forced to walk away. I think something in the $5-million range over 5-6 years is a reasonable contract for ADA. With Kreider pretty much gone, will that kind of AAV not fit in the cap next year?

Can't recall a time when there were so many impending decisions to be made.

I would be fine with selling Strome (relatively high) in February...I would expect Fast to be a piece to go as well - too many contenders will see the value. ..As impressive as DeAngelo's offensive production has been, my gut is wary of any commitment there...Lemieux can't get paid yet...I strongly prefer to keep Kreider...and strongly prefer to keep Georgiev (unless the trade is an absolute assault)...Would be pleased to deal Skjei away...and of course Buchnevich is on borrowed time for me...

The cap situation is manageable.

Been saying this all season, Rangers should start trying ADA and/or Fox on the left. This is a development season and now is the perfect time to try it.

If one can move to the left or allows the trade of Skjei without leaving a hole there while not rushing Miller. It also will give the Rangers an opportunity to see what they've got in Keane.

they have tried it though...ADA and Fox have played a number of shifts together. mostly with ADA on the left...long term no doubt fox could handle it if needed cause he's such a smart player but I wouldn't look to move him this year. let him establish himself in his natural position first

They obviously shouldn't trade him, but Gorton would be failing miserably at his job if he weren't listening on offers for Tony - and everyone else on the roster for that matter - to see what pieces could potentially be available either now or sometime in the near future.

You said Pionk would get manhandled if he had to play the minutes and the matchups that Trouba does. I only pointed out that Pionk is getting the minutes and the matchups that Trouba is with us, and seems to be doing a better job. Is he a better D? A lot of factors go into that determination, and people could reasonably disagree on an answer.

Here's what I'll say - given the age difference, the salary difference, the difference in production, and ADA and Fox's emergence, the Trouba deal looks less good for us all the time.
While Pionk started off great for Winnipeg, the fans are very quietly turning on him. Remember when Pionk lit it up for us too in a small sample size? He was PPG through his first 10-15 games to start last season and then fell off. He isn’t close to Trouba who is an established top pair defenseman. Wait til the Jets get better dmen and overtake Pionk. He’s also first PP with Wheeler, Scheif, Connor etc.

I on the other hand are sick and tired of reading clueless posts like this where people are going out of their way to try and blame someone for things that he’s not responsible for, or out of his control.

Posts like this make it easy to identify who’s feedback is worth reading, versus skipping.
I think you’ll find that ignore feature handy.

I’ve always said in 2 years they will look real good

All the high contracts gone and kids will have matured

that’s when it should be fun. Hopefully they stay on course and don’t panic. Panerin will be older yet that shot should keep him solid like a Martin St Louis for many years.

I like everything but the Fast idea. He brings more to the table than some garbage pick and isn't expensive. We're short on wingers. Same for Smith to a lesser degree.
Valid point, Fast means a lot more to us than the market. I love him but hate the idea of signing him for 2.5 mil when we’ll need to better utilize the space.

He’s also playing on a much better, deeper, more veteran team that actually has a defensive structure and has four lines that aren’t liabilities. Comparing the players without comparing the situation is foolish.

Really?

Pionk played those minutes last year and got manhandled.
