You're telling me Ottawa wants to play the offersheet game with the New York Rangers? Lol
Yes I am and if I was Ottawa or Detroit and the situation presented itself, I would.

Trade a 2nd for Georgiev? I bet there's plenty of teams, including those two who would do that. Remember the 2nd wouldn't be deliverable until 2021.

When it comes to offer sheets, there's never been a situation that could play out quite like this. Pittsburgh could be in a similar boat with Tristan Jarry although he is seemingly the number one guy there now. Matt Murray also an RFA after this season.

Based on a low counts of complaining posts re. three goalies this season I hope we collectively came to accept that it’s not the end of the world at this point after Shesterkin spent the first half of the season as Hartford’s #1 goalie and Georgiev as the Rangers 1A and sharing the remaining of the games 1/3 each would imply essentially a game count allocated to a backup. Maybe Shesterkin could get a few more starts here and there in Hartford on conditioning assignment instead of a full reassignment, thus earning NHL salary there. If anyone is being impacted - it’s only Hank.

The issue is next season. As Henrik’s been great for the organization in all these years, the organization in turn has been great to him as well, and there’s just too many factors to support amiable separation at this point or before the start of next season. Just as it will leave a bad taste if Henrik is bought out after years of great service, there will be the same bad taste if the Rangers are FORCED to move Alexandar.

Retirement? I don’t see it either. IMHO Lundqvist owes it to himself and it solves goalie / cap issues from the Rangers perspective if he would ask to find himself a place to get two more honest shots at the Cup. And I can’t help looking at Colorado as a trade partner to be the landing spot for Hank. Moving Kreider and Hank at a half salary each and getting back a full return on Kreider and a discounted return on Hank would be a great solution.

I don't see Vegas bringing in Lundqvist to split with MAF. If you want to win a Cup, you use your cap space better than that.

MAF went through this with Murray for two seasons (and two Stanley Cups). If each of their utmost motivations is the Cup then I don’t see why it can’t work. There are countless examples of aging greats pushing their egos to the side and doing whatever is necessary.

I think it’s swell that the 3 goalie situation isn’t bothering anyone here on the board I mean thank goodness lol.

But I can tell you it sure as shit is bothering the goalies and I’m sure quinn isn’t having a blast having to spend half his press conferences discussing the 3 goalie situation he’s in.

anyone who thinks hank is happy as a clam right now is wrong.

The only one it could bother is Hank, and I wouldn’t expect him to rock the boat either in public or privately. Quinn would just be giving cookie cut standard snippets of making it work for the good of the team.

I mean, I’d love Gallant too, and I think he’s been giving a raw deal by two teams now. Tallon made some absolutely braindead moves as GM, and somehow Gallant got canned for not being able to push forward an inferior team.

I just can’t see them canning Quinn right as this team is taking a turn for the better.

To me you'd be leaving a better coach out three for Quinn, and that's simply not a good move imo.

I don't see this team taking a big step under Quinn this year or next.

publicly no but privately I think so. He’s the consummate pro but he’s got a giant ego (not a bad thing got him where he is) and a desire to compete and win we’ve all seen that. Riding pine for weeks at a time is not ok. Not for him. I’d bet anything on that. The only one happy most likely is Shesterkin because he’s no longer in the minors. But that happiness will wear off quickly and then it will be about playing and winning. Same for Georgiev. These are hungry guys all 3 are extremely motivated players.

Apologies if I missed this, but someone just mentioned the Rangers turned down Kapanen plus for Georgiev?

Was that a package deal?

I think what you’re saying is that it would bother him internally while my point is that he would not throw a fit or take it out on teammates. The fact that it bothers him could force him to realize it’s really for his own benefit if he were to move on to finish his career elsewhere. In no way it would smear his career as the greatest Rangers goalie of all time.

yes in no way am I saying he would take it out on his team. But I can see him and his agent having conversations about it right now and him finally thinking about his future. It’s not going to end well here if he doesn’t retire This summer. It’s very much headed in the Eli Manning direction.

are 2 of the worst teams in the league gonna sign him to an offer sheet and give up a 1st round pick that will be a potential 1st overall cause they suck way beyond just a goalie when they can instead trade for him by just giving up a decent young player that won't even compare to the potential player that pick will be?

Georgiev is arbitration eligible. Almost all the players eligible elect/file for it.
Most eligible players file because it guarantees they'll get about the same salary for that RFA year(s) as comparable players did. If they do not file and they do not get an offer sheet, they have to either sit out or take whatever contract that is offered by the team who owns their rights, usually their qualifier.

Both those teams need a good goalie, badly. Georgiev is young and will be due a contract anyways. Our price is reportedly very high. Seems feasible to me.

Offer sheeting a goalie certainly would be an Ottawa senators level stupid thing to do
