I don’t think Duchene’s going to want to come here

Duchene apparently wants to go to Nashville. There’s no reported interest from either the Rangers nor Duchene in each other. The he numbers are expected to be north of $10 million per, and Montreal is going to be a team willing to give him that money. I don’t see any way Duchene ends up on the Rangers.

Good luck to that team.

Columbus has some interest in re-signing him but that's a lot of money. That's more money than they offered Panarin.

Columbus was probably looking at Hayes and he was interested in them. He took the Flyers offer.

Pavelski is going to get a huge contract. Maybe Columbus signs him.

I think $7m for a second line c is high. And I'm not so sure he's even a second line c. As someone else mentioned, these are the kind of deals that materialize just before a lockout/strike.
All that said, I like Hayes and am glad for his fortune. He's a quality player and I love his style of play. But Gorton is going to be on the right side of history not overpaying 2nd-3rd line tweeners.

It’s about right for a 2C UFA at this point. If elites get $11m+, non-elite 1Cs are going to get $9m+. 2Cs will be just under that.

Hayes 7 million
Duchene 9 Million
Panarin 11 million.

It makes perfect sense and is in line with cap increases over the years. I don't want any part of those contracts, but that has to do more with age and necessity than what they are actually worth.

I think that’s the Florida offer. The equivalent from the Rangers would be $12 million or so...I am so not interested in that kind of commitment.

That Hayes contract is going to inflate the UFA market. Just stay away, GMJG.

In what way? Hayes was always getting 7 million. Just as Kreider is going to get 7+ million. That's what second line center gets. Duchene is going to get 9+ and always was. Panarin is going to get 11+ and always was.

I really think people have a very poor understanding in general of where the cap stands today. We should really be talking in percentages.

Just stay away from the big FA names! How many times must we attempt to learn this lesson?

Hell, we all thought Shat will not be another waste of money in FA ... it absolutely was. Don't touch any of them.

Considering next years draft, we ought to aim at another top 5 pick. Look to acquire a center like that.
We're still rebuilding even with the addition of Trouba.

How does Lias get put on the third line coming off last season when he showed little? IMO if he does not show much in camp its 50/50 he ends up in Hartford again. Assume Vesey is a goner as well?

Lias needs way more opportunity to show what he has. Dude is buried night in, night out on the bottom lines. Give him some higher quality linemates and better faceoff starts. I think we will see that one day but more bodies need to be shipped out.

LeBrun said the Rangers traded for Trouba on Monday night after the Sharks re-signed Karlsson. The Rangers missed out on Karlsson so they quickly moved to acquire Trouba. Karlsson was going to either the Rangers or TB because of his relationship with Lundqvist and Hedman. Same shit.

McKenzie mentioned the Rangers in connection with Hayes last night in his podcast before the Flyers came to terms with Hayes. The Rangers? Gorton was giving Hayes that type of contract? Really?

The Flyers don't really have much room for anymore big free agent signings.

Flyers come to terms with Kevin Hayes

The back up goaltender to Hart will not be cheap. Hartman and Laughton are arbitration eligible.

Patrick is a free agent next summer. Elliotte Friedman was discussing the cap may be set at $81.5M for the next 2 years. The Flyers need to save room for Patrick's next contract.

They can't sign Zuccarello. Many people were saying AV and Zuccarello would reunite in Philly but Zuccarello is looking for $6M per. The numbers don't work.
What do you mean the cap would be set at 81.5m for ‘two years’?

Has the cap ever not risen in a calendar year?

Isn't Lebrun pretty out of touch these days?

LeBrun is full of it here. Trouba makes a whole lot more sense for the Rangers than Karlsson ever did and even if cost a 1st and Pionk to get Trouba. There is no good reason right now to believe that Trouba can't handle a 7 year contract. There are a whole lot of reasons that suggest that Karlsson won't be able to finish his 8 year contract or be an absolute shell of the player he used to be if he does. There is already noticeable decline with Karlsson while Trouba is coming off his best season.

Apparently Marleau wants to be traded and bought out so he can play for cheap in SJ. His cap hit in a buyout would be $6m this year and nothing going forward.

Would the Leafs go for something like Marleau + Kapanen for Shattenkirk (at 50%) and a 3rd? Looks like RHD is a need for the Leafs as well.

Watch some people bash Gorton when Trouba ends up our lone addition (excluding draft picks).

I doubt it. Leafs need to clear salary. They'll need to pony up for someone to take Marleau's entire salary without taking much back at all.

And just reinforces why I was lukewarm on signing Hayes.

I don't know who these guys are talking to, but I've encountered a grand total of zero people who thought a reunion with Hayes was happening and/or had the Rangers in on Karlsson.

At this point, I think anyone whom the Rangers don't flat out say "no" to is going to be considered someone they are "interested" in.

You want to know names the Rangers were/are monitoring? Trouba (obviously), Panarin, Nylander, Marner. They're curious to see how the Tkachuk contract talks go. They're seeing if they can get a high pick and a prospect they like for Kreider. They're seeing how much Buffalo like Vesey, and if that team is interested in an expanded deal. They're checking in with Arizona now that Kessel is supposedly off the market. They're trying to see if there's any last ditch hope to trade Smith or Shatty, even with 50 percent retentions.

There, I just saved some of you about 30 mins of reading multiple articles that aren't even focused on what's actually going on. It's like 1997 all over again.

We need to stay away from longer term contracts for anyone who's hit the 30 year threshold.....and be very selective as far as anyone who is 27, 28 or 29. Really the only UFA I'm interested in is Panarin. Looking at next year there is Taylor Hall right now but I expect he won't reach free agency. The best player the season after is Gabriel Landeskog--the third wheel on Colorado's top line. I don't expect he'll hit free agency either. Panarin is the only UFA I can see wanting the next three years.

They are unfortunately free to do so. And I will continue to try to ignore the entirety of unreasonable positions.

There are some that never accepted the rebuild I suppose, or they thought it's supposed to be done after two seasons ... and they're popping up at an alarming rate recently. It made the last months hard to bare, because we keep fighting windmills out here.

I can’t see a big C coming in

Trade Kreider sign Panarin ok I can see that

Just play Chytil , Howden , Andersson at C and have Strome slide over if need be
