No it’s not, 7 million should be reserved for 60-70 point players. Hayes has cracked 50 points once lmfao

Ok and using solely points is a horrible way to evaluate players so what? Hayes would be a 60+ point player with good offensive usage but prior to this season in NY he was never used that way. Not that AV is going to use him like that though.

If anything I find this a rather progressive contract indicating Hayes agent is aware of things like this and the flyers agreed.

Now personally I would not have given him this deal but I don’t think it’s outrageous and I would certainly prefer it to the Nelson deal (and whatever the Duchene deal comes out to be).

Here's what I'd hope to see by September:

Breadman-Zibs-KK
Buch-Chytil-Kravstov
Lias-Howden-Strome
Lemeuix/Bellmare-Filpulla-Hathaway

Skjei-Trouba
Hajek-Fox
Staal-Ada

Hank
Geo/Shesty

Would like to see Hank go through "Load Management" where Geo and Shesty dress for games where one or the other is starting, and they take turns getting sent down to the minors depending on whose playing the best and needs the minutes.
What did we get for Kreider in your scenario?

I have zero interest in giving Marner 11M per or whatever he wants, nevermind the 4 1sts. Signing Panarin is much better value for us even if he's older. Most I would do is 10.5M/5 which would be 2 1sts, 2nd and 3rd but we'd have to get the picks from Carolina.

I really hope we aren't even considering doing an offer sheet. Because if we continue to build out this roster with talent, we will be in the Leafs exact situation within 4 or 5 years. And they will screw us right back when say K'Andre Miller or Nils Lundkvist needs a bridge deal. It's just not worth it.

Worth repeating...

A conversation I had with the then CEO of an NHL team about the salary cap. He told me the average fan doesn’t consider that on a 23 man roster there are usually 4-5 players on entry level contracts and another 1-2 on minimum salary deals. If you divide a $80 million cap by 23 players that’s about $3.5 MM per player. Take out 6 players at under $1MM and that average for the remaining players is almost $5 MM per player. Don’t let the high salaries scare you. Fans are almost always more worried about the caps than the managers of the team.

Trade Kreider to get into a decent spot in the first round.

Trade Vesey and Namestnikov for cap relief and a couple 3rd rounders next year.

Sign Panarin for 7x11, Trouba 7x7.5, Buchnevich 2x2.5, DeAngelo 2x2, Lemieux 2x1.5 - This leaves us with 2.2 of caproom with an 81.5 cap.

Panarin Zibanejad Kakko
Lemieux Chytil Buchnevich
Kravstov Howden Strome
Andersson Nieves Fast
Lettieri

Skjei Trouba
Staal DeAngelo
Hajek Shattenkirk
Smith

Lundqvist
Georgiev

And hopefully by the trade deadline we can move Shattenkirk at his full cap hit and replace him with Fox. Maybe even Smith too, I’ll say my prayers.

Kreider is a guy who shows up when he wants to. Love his talent but he's too inconsistent and not my type of player.

You save cap for 2 seasons.. for what purpose? Instead you are hurting our cap when we will need and want to use it... tell me how that isnt short sighted? I'm more than ok having Smith sit and collect his money bc it doesn't hurt us at all to do so. And idc if he plays if our young guys cant step up right now. Again we are not a playoff team or a cup contender, it won't hurt us. Do you want to be Edmonton or a team like Boston that has done it right and have been cup contenders for 10 years?

Buying him out punishes us in the long run.

We're not going to need the $1.145 in 21-22, 22-23. The free agent market is terrible in 21-22 and apparently you haven't bothered to look. We have Henrik, Marc and Kevin's coming off the books--over $20 mil. I have to say two years from now when all of a sudden it's okay to spend money on UFA's I'm not going to be with you. I'm not going to be interested in overspending on the kinds of players who are going to be available then. They won't be worth it--and it's very, very likely that those of our young moving from their ELC's to 2nd contracts are not going to have proven themselves enough where we're going to be giving them massive deals.
