Arizona is not income tax free although 4.5% max probably feels like free to those of you back east.

Coyotes were quietly offering a Stepan around theleague a while back but ownership change may have slowed that down.

Arizona certainly makes sense though for many reasons.

One of the biggest differences between Trouba and Kreider is that Kreider is signed for next year at a reasonable rate. He could also be flipped at the deadline if no contract deal was likely.
Would Kreider go there?

"Gorton said his hope is there are more moves coming to accelerate the Rangers' rebuild enough to where they can become a playoff contender next season. They have missed the playoffs the past two seasons and finished 20 points out of a postseason spot this season.

"It just felt like this is a player that is going to be with us for a while," Gorton said. "That's the biggest reason why we felt comfortable moving off No. 2

https://www.nhl.com/news/jacob-trouba-traded-to-rangers-by-jets/c-3078877100."

Interesting - especially those thinking they're in on Panarin.

The bolded is poorly interpreted TBH.

You can listen to the actual conference call here

One thing I would not do is pinch pennies on a once in a lifetime type like Panarin. We can make the money work. Just move out guys like Vesey and Namestnikov.

that can make it work for year 1. but what about years 2-7 when vesey and names wouldn't have been here anyway?

Clarkson?

LVGK asked for his no-trade list.
$5.25 for one year.

1st + Clarkson for ????

LVGK are over the projected cap according to The Complete Hockey News FB Page.
I think I heard Matt Barnaby say his no trade list were all teams in high tax areas. Since he is not playing, that would seem important unless he lives somewhere where he can claim residency and not pay state taxes (e.g. Florida, Texas etc.)

I think he would. And he would have one big fan in my family.

This is not how the leafs predicted things playing out when they signed Tavares. They thought the RFAs would accept reasonable deals and gets in line behind UFAs. Matthews, Nylander, and Marner are leveraging the leafs into cap hell.

Lou f***ed up their cap situation pretty bad. Cant wait until he really gets to sink his teeth into the Isles.
The Zaitzev and Marleau deals are killing them ATM.

New world, stars coming off their ELCs want to get paid right now and not a little bit now and more later

Those players that you say will take their spots... we have no idea if lr when they will be ready. When they are that's when you make the trades. Shatty is tradeable and I'm talking at the tdl this year 50% retained we can get a little something back. Smith can be buried or sit in the press box.. buying out Smith hits us with around 2 million a year for the next 4 years on top of what we are paying Girardi. Instead of 4 more years of paying him just let him sit in the press box for 2. Yeah it doesn't give us the extra 2 million in cap flexibility now but we domt need it either. In 2 years down the road we will need every dollar to sign our own players and get free agents when we are ready to compete. That's what I mean by short sighted.

Rangers had looks at both Hajek and Lindgren last year. They have a good idea already on both those guys as well as Fox and Rykov.

Smith has two years remaining at $4.35 mil each. From Cap Friendly a Smith buyout looks like this:

1st year --970K cap hit--burying him in the minors would be a 3.425 mil cap hit--savings from buying him out 3.379 mil. First year of a buyout works great for us.
2nd year-3.145 mil cap hit--burying him in the minors would be the slightly more 3.425 cap hit--savings from buying him out-1.204 mil--not as good as the first year but a saved million is a saved million.
3rd year of a buyout 1.145 mil cap hit--not bad at all when you consider that Lundqvist, Shattenkirk and Staal are all coming off the books that year for more than $20 mil.
4th and last year of the buyout--another 1.145 mil cap hit--Rangers with lots of young guys on ELC's and 2nd contracts--I doubt we'd even notice.

And why put Brendan through all that shit of being scratched all the time or buried in the minors? when he can try his luck somewhere else.

2 years from now the free agent market is shit--go back to Cap Friendly--check it out for yourself--the free agent market will be awful--that's why you jump on Panarin this year if you can. 2 years from now Kakko, Kravtsov and Fox are still going to be on their ELC's and probably a couple/three/four others. Two years from now most of the guys going into their second contracts aren't going to be breaking the bank. Two years from now Henrik, Staal, Shattenkirk etc. come off the books--two years from now the cap has risen another $5 to 8 mil. Two years from now we'll be mostly re-signing our own guys because smart teams don't go wild over 30 + year old 2nd and 3rd line forwards and 2nd and 3rd pairing D because that's what two years from now is almost exclusively going to be. Check out Cap Friendly--I know I've said it already--but I don't think I can say it enough--two years from now the free agent market is going to be shit and pretty much nothing but.

I really feel like it’ll be Lou who sends the offer sheet in too, Marner is great buds with Matt Martin and hangs out with some of the Isles often. Maybe revenge for Tavares. Isles might be a contender soon and they have pretty good prospects already, they don’t need those firsts

Yep seems like it. Gonna make winning in the nhl even trickier now. The great talent you draft wants to be paid big time bucks faster.

Leafs shouldn’t have signed Tavares. I know that’s an unpopular opinion, and yes he’s a great player, but look at the problems they are having right now, and they still need to fix their blue line, which is not good. They will spin their wheels for years.

Man I’m so heartbroken for them.

you can joke but we should also learn from it cause in a few years we hopefully will be faced with the problem of needing to pay kratsov, kakko and our 2020 1st rounder huge $$ and needing to figure out how to fit everyone under the cap

They've done a lot of things the "right" way, but ignoring defense and building a homogenous lineup are things that they have f***ed up, along with the Lou specials.
