They would be more of a futures trade. One is more of a now/future trade.

But I would ask people to be realistic. We’re not getting Tkachuk or Drai. We’re not really talking franchise altering, start of a new era type trades.
Thank you for answering my questions.

This definitely helps me with the trade expectations.

@Edge can you say if this big potential trade is more of a rebuilding move or a move that would make us more competitive now?

Well that’s a relief. I’ve been nervous since you said it would likely be done before the draft rather than during or after.
I took it to mean the Rangers are trying to get another first round pick in at least one deal.

I made the same joke about the tkachuk brothers a couple weeks ago when they posted pics of them and their mom on mother’s day.

I was messing around with the big bad wolf name and funny ness of a big bad wolf actually being a mommas boy.

Just like two of the hardest nosed players in the league (the tkachuk) looked like mommas boys

And meanwhile your gonna on about reading too much into things

You two couldn’t tell that was a joke

To be fair to them, your sense of humor isn't the greatest.

Most of the deals lean toward the future. There are other conversations that are geared toward the now. But as a guiding rule, think teams that are looking to get a boost now, and a team that may be juggling some contracts.

Lets just do a Kreider, Vesey for AZ 1st and Crouse and call it a day :-)

May have to take a contract back in that one though they are tight on the cap. Demers I am sure they would move at RD but he doesnt really fit here either

The problem is that just giving vague information or "hints and little nuggets" isn't better than no information at all.

We all know Gorton and the team are working the phones and whatnot on the daily and things could happen. We don't need a insiderrrr to tell us that.

I appreciate that these folks have connections, but if they can't say more than something vague because their source(s) would otherwise drop the connection, then it's really not worth posting, because the majority of the time, it's working the entire board up for nothing/no payday. A heck of a lot more misses than hits because "Gorton is on the phone for the last half hour in his room" or "working on a minor deal."

A least Dagoon would drop names (back before he moved and lost connections)
In multiple earlier posts he dropped teams, possible assets and types of targets. Later on, he outlined the structure of THREE possible trades. Then he slapped the board over the head and pointed to the bread crumbs.

I'm sorry, if we want any reliable insight around that is all we get. Anything more, and an unpaid intern can trace the info and we are stuck with Fast and Vesey for McDavid level speculation from uninformed fans. Dagoon... I would be insulted if I was vetted and got linked to him as a comparison. He was wrong a whole lot more than he was right. I would rather have vague and reliable info instead of attention seeking promises that somehow went off the rails last minute.

I just picture Gorton with a trade sniper rifle picking off all the desperate teams looking for a shake-up. We have a fair share of pieces that can produce now, and some considerable flexibility with cap. Great position to be in.

The hysteria here is triggering an uncomfortable fandom @Edge ...

I do not doubt there is some legitimate insider info. here, but there are multiple conversations and several possibilities - this stuff is fluid over time.

Thoughts in no particular order -

*Puljujarvi to NYR makes too much sense. The return to Edmonton won't be much - less than most have written up here. In fact, Pionk would have made sense, IMO.

*Vesey to BUF makes too much sense. As my least favorite player in blue over nearly 30 years, I'll be elated to take him out back and get this over with.

*I don't see Marner happening. I do see Toronto dealing Kapanen or Johansson / doing anything but touch Marner. I also do not believe this deal will involve us.

*Going back to Edmonton, I could see that multi-piece deal involving Kreider, Buchnevich (packaged together) in a deal for 8 (to take Zegras). I think Draisatl is wishful thinking. Maybe Puljujarvi is in this deal as well.

We'll find out soon (and it'll certainly go down when you are offline for an hour).
This is a good take for people who don’t want to read the entire thread

Add to that, that it's summer and we literally have nothing better to discuss and at least it ups the intrigue level somewhat.

Sounds like Toronto.
I could see Buffalo and Arizona as teams looking for help now. Both those teams have talent on their rosters, yet can't seem to get over the hump and make a run. To compound the issue, they have trouble attracting UFAs. I could see those teams being interested in Kreider, but Buchnevich could also be a prime target, since he's under team control for a three more years.

Maybe that's the "calculated risk" @Edge referenced? Dealing Buchnevich, a player who is still young with real upside, for futures that may never pan out...

@Edge thanks for all the insight, much appreciated. Do you think this heightened potential trade activity that you've been sharing has been sparked by GMs suspecting that the salary cap could be 1.5M under projected and the Rangers could bail other teams out? Or is it more so Gorton just pursuing to make our team better for the now/future? Or a combo I suppose...

But do those teams fit the parameters of 'juggling some contracts?' I'm not as familiar with their cap situation.

Everyone is discussing Toronto right now and there are rumors flying about regarding their activity. I feel like they are so desperate to make moves right now to clear space. They have Zaitsev, Marleau who have both asked out - there's rumors about Nylander, Kadri and Marner. You'd have to think we would be looking at Nylander or Marner in this situation - plus possibly taking back Marleau for a buyout.

I want reiterate for the uninitiated that the recent Under Review podcast that @Amazing Kreiderman and @GregSirico hosted with @Edge as the guest gives a lot of background on both @Edge and the approach the Rangers are taking. It should fill in some of the gaps that people seem to have regarding what @Edge has recently revealed, and what has been discussed since the end of the season. It has long been understood that the Rangers are looking to add a top ten pick. Brooks even said that after the Rangers won the the lottery. I’m sure that goal had not changed, so I would think that when teams like Edmonton and Buffalo are being brought up, that should understood as a target.

vegas, calgary, and toronto are teams facing some sort of cap crunch due to the lower cap number, as is sj.

everyone is getting so focused on toronto that they lose site on the other teams. sj to me may be the most interesting bc wilson is the kind of guy that will do something ballsy. watch jones get dealt to carolina and he look for a cheaper goalie option ha.

Vesey to Buffalo. Lot of confidence here at this point.
A couple of trades with an asset as the centerpiece I'm both, so mutually exclusive. Kreider.

Trying to finish before the draft... so pick is involved. Arizona or Colorado 1st. Same neighborhood, similar value. Toronto is maybe targeting our guy too. Kapanen or Johnson would probably get more on the next deal. Kreider is a hell of a rental with a chance to re-sign after Marleau and Zietsev are gone. Marleau part of it? Smith? 4 to 5 pieces.

The above post was pulled out of thin air and was in no way formed with aid of any other material.
