The writing is on the wall for the Rangers to make a big move for their number 2 center - but cap wise, it has to be someone that makes sense. Larkin is a risk because he could need a huge deal if he clicks with Panarin. I'd be on the phone with Winnipeg and Calgary about PLD and Lindholm. (Pending they commit to Mika, otherwise Eichel should be in play)

Buch/Jones/15 small add if necessary for 1 of them with maybe a small add back. We can all love Buch - but the writing seems apparent - Goodrow's value is as a wing who can play all over the ice - not as a center.

Either Lindholm or PLD - PLD being the bigger risk will be cost controlled, which will be the key the next few years.

Strome for futures/a middle pair LD with a decent contract. A small add or two to the 4th line, Zajac, Nosek, Bellemare, Reaves, etc .. depending on how they want to shape it and the Rangers are cooking with fire.

Barron will be the key to the bottom 6 future - let him learn all about if for Goodrow and there is your developed piece while the rest marinate.

Laf-Mika-Kakko
Panarin-PLD-Kravtsov
Kreider-Chytil-Goodrow
Barron-Zajac/Rooney/Richards-Nosek/Bellmare/Reaves

Lindgren-Fox
Miller/Trade-Trouba
Miller/Trade-Lundkvist

Get cheap versatile vets with PK experience who you can pop up and down the lineup in case of injuries, someone that can play with Panarin if he wants his mucker on the RW from time to time. Size on the dman - size on the 4th line.

If Kakko scores 45-50, what would his next deal look like? Would he get the Nico Hischier deal of 7x7? Or a bridge?

Laf eventually as well.

But these bridge deals almost always turn out to go bad for them.
Which ones have gone right? I guess we avoided the Callahan and Dubinsky long term deals, but on the other hand we had to choose one of Kreider or Buch because of bridging

The Rangers are notorious bridgers.

The only one I don't see them Wal-Marting is Fox.
I had figured, with all the players theyll need to sign in the next 3-4 years, Kakko would be an easy long-term lockup like Hischier; quiet Europeans who come from good money and are just looking for the stability

Not that most players dont come from money, but over heres its seen much differently. Ive always said I think Europeans, besides Russians (idt thats wrong to say), are easier to sign than NA players.
NA players know all the areas more and have aspirations of going to certain cities and stuff; Im sure if the Nhl played in Finland Kakko would prefer to go there at some point, for example.

Kakko at 7-8 years of 6-7mil should be fair and a steal in the future, like I suspect it will be with Hischier.

were both, however, in for a rude awakening when Lafreniere and J Hughes both need signings; I have both pinned as top-10 players in the sport in their primes

Lafreniere has two years left on his ELC and then they'll f*** with him for another two years. By the time he gets his adult contract, Goodrow will be in year 5/6 and Kreider will be long deceased from his "allergy."

I’m don’t love using Strome as a trade chip to move up a few spots but dumping his salary would be a bonus so maybe?

Been thinking a bit and though i feel the continued build is the best route i do think this organization is all in for the next few years. I honestly wouldn't put it past them to think they can go for a long run this year, not how i feel but i think given all the changes i now think thats where we are headed so hang on. Having said that i dont think there will be massive changes, but i think they will put a team on the ice that can compete and will use the available cap space for this season.

Am I weird for being not as worried about our state of contracts, since medium term cap is gonna skyrocket once TV Deal money and post-COVID flattening ends? If anything, the next 2-3 years might be a PERFECT time to lock up some long term deals (i.e. Kakko, LAF, Fox, Zibby, etc) or a trades for long term signed players (i.e. Eichel) :naughty:

At this point I just look at it as trading him for Chytil.

An expiring Strome doesn't have a ton of value.

Im doubful we move Strome without getting a different style center back in that deal or another, whether its someone to replace strome or Chytil.

Reading good things about McTavish. Who is the 2nd line center? This roster needs NHL players more than more prospects right now imo.
I agree. It does. But using Buch to find a short term solution at 2C is a lot easier than the optimal deal of a young 2C. If a guy like McTavish drops then he is a future solution stepping in to replace the vet 2C we get for Buch.
Buch, Strome, #15, 3rd round pick in 2021 for Stopgap Vet C (maybe a guy like Kadri plus?), a long term + cost controlled C like McTavish, a 2nd rounder in 2021 and maybe another piece is certainly an interesting equation as it also offers a lot of positive possibilities regarding the salary cap. Maybe use some other assets to fill up the bottom 3 and/or find a 2LD if UFA prices are too high.

LAF - Zib - Kakko
Bread - Kadri (eventually replaced by 2021 top ten C selection) - Goodrow/Kravtsov
Pool boy - Chytil - Kravtsov/Goodrow
Barron - UFA/Trade - UFA/Trade (maybe Kassian for Georgiev?)
Spares: Rooney, Reaves

Lindgren - Fox
UFA (Suter?)/Miller - Trouba
Miller/Trade (example Soucy from Seattle) - Nils or Schneider
Vet #7 for depth

Shesty
Vet UFA

this is a good and very nasty team in the making

i agree with that. The traded pick attached to no name might be easier than when a team has a young center and won’t part ways with.

Would like to see Barron get some center ice time. If Chytil emerges, fine. We need to make some progress at center beyond Strome and if either Zibby or Stome go down with injury. It’s time to find some other answers at center.
