The concerns and worries about Eichel are all obvious. However, I will reserve any judgement on us possibly acquiring him until I see the cost.

Regardless of which route he chooses with this neck injury, is there any shot JE is ready for opening night? He can't be, right?

Unless this whole "injury" is hogwash even the regular surgery I can't see him being ready for Opening night, but the Rangers still do have Zibanejad (at this point)

i can def see a situation where jack ends up here and strome ends up in minny.

also, this narrative of "experimental" surgery needs to just stop. the surgery has been going on for years if not decades, it just isnt something hockey players have gotten. if you want to say it is a rare/new surgery for hockey players than that is fine, but it isnt experimental.

Friedman really, really hedging his comments on JE. He says "the next few days might be goofy on Eichel". Says there is a ton of bluffing this time of year, everyone is lying. Says things can always change with the phone call. "Sounds like" LA/Ducks/Calgary are out on JE...but who knows. It could all be posturing leading up to the draft.

He didn't say this. He said that Isiah Thomas told him that about the NBA draft.

I would imagine including Rossi would be the tipping point. Rangers can't offer a young stud C, but the Wild can.

Minny isn't sending Rossi and if Buffalo really wanted him they would have drafted him when they had a chance to last season instead of Jack Quinn.

I think largely any discussion about “defense” and wingers becomes almost about definition. What is defense for a winger? Some will completely ignore the ability to read the play and drop back early to avoid odd man rushes and basically only look at play around the boards. How about the forecheck? Not saying there is a right or wrong here.

Even if the neck issue gets resolved will he start to play more of a perimeter game? You just never know how people react after surgery even if they are “fully” recovered

Well, did Buffalo know back then that Eichel would be so disgruntled that he would demand a trade? I don't know if the Pegulas could have seen this coming. I would think that Eichel one year ago was as close to untouchable as they come. They chose the goalscorer in Quinn over the playmaker in Rossi. If Eichel is traded, they're going to want and need a young C besides Cozens. That's Rossi and a player like Rossi is not something Drury can offer. Like I said, I don't know if they would offer Rossi, but if they did, I would think that would be the tipping point in the Wild's favor to acquire Eichel over any package the Rangers could offer.

I mean if the cost is Strome or Buch, Jones or Robertson, Geo and a #1, I think you make that trade. The value is there even with the injury concern.

That being said I can't see Buffalo accepting that offer but stranger things have happened.

Drury shmoozes Dolan into one more tank year. We trade Buch, Strome, Jones and 15OA for Eichel. Eichel then does not play most of the year.

Rangers miss the playoffs because they dealt Buch and Strome. Lightning strikes a third time and the Rangers win a top 2 pick in next year's draft. Rangers draft Matthew Savoie or Shane Wright. Eichel returns healthy the following year. Zibanejad re-ups on a team friendly 5 year deal.

Rangers proceed to win the next 7 Stanley Cups.

He checks a lot of boxes for what would make Sather/Dolan happy

If he could be counted on to be healthy, he should check the boxes for everyone to be happy.
