Meh. Kind of expected. 3 mill flat would have been cooler, but worst case scenario he falls off the deep end in year 4, they just buy him out and bury him. Won’t be a huge penalty
They gave him the term to keep the Average down a bit it seems. I highly doubt he spends all 6 years with the big club. Facts

Is it that far fetched that 2 out of Chytil, Kravtsov, Barron and/or Goodrow will be our middle 6 centers?

Kravtsov wasn’t really that impressive when he played center. Plus at this stage in his career, I’d let him settle in at wing, especially if they trade Buch this season or next

Thats the part that bothers me less. He can be Callahan/Datsyuk/bolland'ed down the line if need be.

He's overpaid by a mil. I get the "cup tax" but that isn't worth a million.

Chychryn is the real deal on a great contract.

Reunanen ... ok. I can live without him. But if we trade Robertson I'll be very very pissed.

Robertson is a way better defender then Jones is ever going to be. He’s also a big kid who moves the puck surprisingly well. He probably won’t put up the offensive numbers Jones will but has potential to be better in every other area.
Jones can play both LD/RD and is a heady player. He hasn’t been a D that long so it’s tough to gauge his ceiling. Both are very good /solid prospects

Kind of late to the party here but Hayes absolutely played a good bit of C in college. He really shifted to wing to play a Gaudreau and Bill Arnold later in his career. His freshman year he spent most of the year centering Kreider and his brother.

Yea it’s 100k more the. Tanev. It’s gona be frontloaded and have a NTC/nMC for 3 years I bet. Honestly, this is not a terrible D as far as mercenary prices go. Everyone needs to relax. If he declines a bunch after 3-4 seasons, he’ll be buried or bought out.
He’ll be 34 at the end of his deal. That’s not ancient, and he’s no speed demon

He'll get some level of protection for the duration.

That's what Tanev has. Hes got a 10 team no go list for all 6 years but the deal is evenly structured (1 SB, 2.5 Salary) for all 6 years.

If the deal is front loaded, all the more reason it should be below 3.6. Money now is worth more than money years from now.

Sure, let's spend big money on these complementary pieces you need for a cup run when we have not even figured out what our core is... I predict we are going to have unfortunate cap casualties because of stunts like this. Like Kreider and Trouba were not enough already...

It's really not that bad, expecially if he has a limited or no NTC/NMC.

He actually has to be injured for that to work. Islanders didn’t get to Callahan Ladd.

I would've much rather had Maroon/Coleman/Killorn or Gourde at those cap hits than Goodrow. I wonder why Drury fell in love with Barclay and not someone else
