I dont know whether to believe Carp or Vince even. They had absolutely no idea the Rangers would trade for Goodrow, nor did anyone. It seems Drury is pretty tight lipped about his plans

4 for goodrow is absurd.

3.5 isn’t good either. Especially in the cap world. I’m all for signing him and I’m assuming they’ve already got something agreed upon, but there no need to go crazy just to change the culture. We can do that for cheaper.

The cap is the cap for sure but at the end of the day it’s Jimmy Dolan paying the contract……not us and what comes out of his pocket doesn’t bother me at all.

well the cap is the problem lol.

I too don’t care what comes out of dolans wallet… just that signing him to a big deal limits us elsewhere. We’ve seen how big a deal a million here or there can be.

I get that Goodrow will be in demand but that doesn't mean teams will throw a blank check at him. The difference will be term and protections and to an extent money.

It comes to a point where you have to weigh what the player brings and what cost your willing to pay for that value. A competing team can't commit basically 5% of their overall cap to a player like Goodrow.

The Rangers also have to add several players in the Goodrow talent range to fill out a roster that can compete (in the bottom 6 up front and bottom pair on the backend).

If we (or anyone) give Goodrow 4M/year it will be seen as one of the worst contracts in the league in a couple of years.

Yeah IDK why people are talking about Kreider and Trouba as comparibles. They're each a little bit over paid, 1-2 million.

Goodrow is a 2 million dollar player. 4 would be double his value. We laughed when Matt Martin got 4 x 1.5.

This would be Brendan Smith round 2. I wouldn't go a dime over 3 mil AAV for Goodrow. We only used a 7th rounder.

I like Goodrow a lot but $4M+ is crazy talk. Hope that is coming from his agent.
I just don’t see it. At most were talking 3.5. But if it’s over 4 years and fromtloaded our the wazzou I bet the number is closer to 3. We are known for doing that. Not many players that never broke 30pts go from 900k to 4 times their salary.

I just don’t see that happening in a covid flat cap especially. Hes worth 3 mill a year, and that’s on the high end already

I mean with hindsight, sure. I remember the Suzuki stuff too, but everyone thought 7 was too high for him. And he still got traded. Necas I liked but again the consensus was 7 was too early.

Thats the point though. When you are projecting out a draft you put the players in tiers. The top tiers in the draft are 9 players and there is a drop. I don’t think there is much of a difference between the 10th best guy and the 15th best guy (at this point in time).

The Lias/Suzuki/Necas thing happened because there wasn’t a consensus guy at 7 so the Rangers picked the wrong reach. I wouldn’t want the Rangers to put themselves in a situation again where they aren’t in an optimal position

Agreed. The conversation at 7th overall was about Mittelstadt and Vilardi mostly. And I can't really say we missed out on some great center prospect by not picking one of those. It's easy to, in hindsight. point at the best players and be upset your team did not select them.

But I remember in 2011, Jets fans were fuming after reaching for Scheifele, while a few years later he turned out to be the right guy. It's not easy finding the right player unless you have a top-3 pick.

The name of this website is literally hockey's future, a 1st got traded for a guy who never hit 10 goals, and people are obsessed with winning trades. I'm not surprised.
Reaves also got A first at the draft, to me at least it was shocking

You guys are overblowing the goodrow number. Theres no way he will get a NMC so if he starts a heavy decline he can just be burried in Hartford

We’re going to have $28 mil to work with this summer after we dump DeAngelo. There’s more money coming off the books next year and if we do move Strome and/or Buchnevich those will be two expensive contracts too….and depending on what we get back if we do move them. I think the Rangers will have the money for Fox and also for Lafreniere and/or Kakko if they break out.

I think you mean a couple seconds lol. It would be awful.

Nah they'll widely like it at first saying how this is a player the Rangers need then give it a year or two when he declines a bit and they'll be saying how it's the albatross.

What does that accomplish? The CBA change almost 10 years ago.

You mean a percentage of him will be buried. At 4 million, a substantial amount would still count against the cap.

I’m trying to understand how yanni Gourde is on the exposed list and we didn’t make a deal for him. We absolutely should have tried. To me that’s a no brainer for Seattle from Tampa.

Because that would mean TB loses Gourde and Palat instead of just one of them.

I understand and we don't know what the final numbers will truly be but numbers on paper don't show the intangibles he brings. Everyone knew what we needed and what we were going for this offseason and teams or FA's will do there best to squeeze every last dime from NY.

That said those intangibles teaching these kids what it takes to win important games. Showing them you have to get your nose dirty not every shift can be a ballet. It's almost priceless. Obviously I believe there should be a limit but if we are within 500k like 3.5 or 3.75 looks a lot better than 4 million I'm ok with that.
His experience is not worth $2M more than Fast.

Guys, do you think Schneider is a nhl ready D-man? I'm asking because Lundkvist would be great asset in a major trade e.c. for 2C.

I prefer to keep Schneider who is big defender. Lundkvist has a bigger trade value but he is small offensive RD as Fox.

On the other hand Schneider is only 19 and perhaps needs some time in AHL...

6x$3MM AAV is more than fair for his value. Player gets a retirement contract, maybe give him a full NTC for the first 2 seasons, then a modified NTC (max 7 teams) for years 3 and 4 then no protections the last 2 years. May be that brings the hit down a bit below the $3MM AAV.

Front load the contract so a cap team would take the contract in the tail end where the actual pay is lower than the cap hit.
