If he wants security/protection, he's getting a Sissons deal. 6 years 2.5-3M
Honestly it’s the trade protections that scare me more than the AAV.
We could’ve done that with Smith too, but look what happenedRight. They gave up a 7th for his rights.
They can just walk away.
….are they?they really aren’t going to give a bottom pair guy trade protection are they
….are they?
There as a small contingent of people that kept saying he was going to at least get the tanev deal and others kept dreaming that one of the top two most desired players of his type (Goodrow and Coleman) in a league that lacks this kind of player, and a player that cost a team a 1st rounder in a trade now long ago was going to sign a ufa contract for under 3mil. It's not going to happen. He is getting PAID whether it's here or elsewhere. We need this type of player and I'm okay paying for it.
Why not, if they are going to go anywhere near 4M for 5 or 6 years, the contract itself will become a no trade anyway, so it does not really matter if he gets it or not.….are they?
If it’s a 6 year deal, I fully expect 3/4 years of a 15 or 10 team no move list.i don’t think so. Maybe something minor so he doesn’t end up in some no win place like Buffalo, Arizona or NJ but probably not even that.
You can keep saying the cap isn't going anywhere but players in demand are going to get paid, that doesn't just mean elite players, it means the players that are in demand. These two guys are extremely in demand, like literally every team in the league would want these guys right now. It's open market, they're going to get paid. You can't argue against it. I keep seeing the same reasons why he shouldn't expect to get paid, but he's going to get paid because literally 10 teams have been linked as being super interested in him. If there's a demand for a ufa player than they're going to get paid. The difference is the league is in a totally different place then when that trade went down.
Also his play could have been a product of his environment. I dont recall him playing this good in San Jose?
The cap isn't going anywhere for the next 4 or 5 years. Most players salaries will be depressed. Some will take term over dollars (role playing older players) while several younger players will be the reverse.
Suzuki would have been the Coyotes pick at 7 if they haven’t traded it to the Rangers.Suzuki and Necas went 12th and 13th in that draft. If the Rangers had taken either player 7th overall, the Rangers would be in much better shape right now. There was nothing wrong with the players in the draft or the Stepan trade. The Rangers took the wrong player. Blame Rangers management. I remember Edge saying the Rangers really liked Suzuki that draft year.
Please, explain to me how this is worth $4M.
I understand and we don't know what the final numbers will truly be but numbers on paper don't show the intangibles he brings. Everyone knew what we needed and what we were going for this offseason and teams or FA's will do there best to squeeze every last dime from NY.
That said those intangibles teaching these kids what it takes to win important games. Showing them you have to get your nose dirty not every shift can be a ballet. It's almost priceless. Obviously I believe there should be a limit but if we are within 500k like 3.5 or 3.75 looks a lot better than 4 million I'm ok with that.

Really wish we kept Fast.
It's a good thing they gave those big contracts to Kreider and Trouba, and that was the end of it.I wish some of the "up the depth chart" players the Rangers have also had character so they stopped needing to import it all the time.
I mean with hindsight, sure. I remember the Suzuki stuff too, but everyone thought 7 was too high for him. And he still got traded. Necas I liked but again the consensus was 7 was too early.Suzuki and Necas went 12th and 13th in that draft.
And that’s fair too. But again. I’m not trading up just to trade up either. Especially if it’s going to be expensiveYour nine players may not be the same as someone elses nine players.

What made this place become so obsessed with young players with okay-ish pedigree that do pretty much nothing?
