Best kept secret in the NHL? In 200+ games, 6 seasons combined, this guy has 26 total career goals. He turns 27 next month.

People think Lafreniere is a bust, but that Blais is the "best kept secret in the NHL?" What drugs are people taking.

True story . Laf does amazing if he starts with a crap over team

You keep him on the bridge deal and play him more . He’s going to break out and if he doesn’t it’s more a NYR problem

My realistic offseason

Promote Cullye, Robertson, Jones, Berard, Lockwood
I think those additions add some life in the bottom end of the lineup.

Integrate the kids into the top lines

Panarin Zibanejad Kakko
Lafrieniere Chytil Berard
Kreider Trochek Cullye
Vesey Goodrow(if he is still here) Lockwood

Putting Kreider with Trochek isnt a demotion as much as it is about balance and opportunity for the kids, i liked his game with Trochek and adding Cullye to that line would make it tough to play against. Berard is a dog on the puck and i think would compliment those guys. Lockwood is a sparkplug and we could use that.

It’s not realistic to promote all of those players
It’s just not gonna happen . Most are call ups
Maybe 2 play consistently

Other teams trade picks for players they keep for more than a couple of months. Drury has nothing to show for trading all of those picks.

Which is standard around the entire league

Really can’t be upset with Blais finding success after he left the Rangers. Wasn’t a fit, plus the injury set him back, and never got the opportunities here.

He had tons of opportunities in NY he just stunk after the Slewban injury

He has 26 career goals in over 200 games. He had a good little run with the Blues to finish this season. Aren't we against small sample sizes?

I don't know, the Rangers gave him a pretty "small sample size" after a catastrophic injury before shipping him out of here. Remember that 20% of his career, with the Rangers, was coming back from that.

This is the proven 99% of the time to be failed win now approach.
NO
you don't deal high picks for vets
esp if damaged goods
6-7th rounders that can upgrade ONLY if we win the Cup, period, no incremental PO success, cup only, okay.
Otherwise no

We could use, arguably need that 2nd

Exceptions notwithstanding, rule = you use picks for young foundation pieces only

Like Dallas w/Nils L.

-------------------

There is not enuf thinking outside the box and we get what we are getting, reaping what we sow.
I preferred to keep Nils, sell high on Lindgren, and flip Fox for briefly to LD, then return him to RD when we moved Trouba

Dude, your suggestions and takes are so far out in left field that I take little that you say seriously. Don't deal high picks for vets? Sam Bennet was traded for a 2nd and a prospect - how's that working out for the Panthers? Domi for a 2nd working out for the Stars? The Avalanche acquired two players for 2nd rounders last year on route to the Stanley Cup.

You DO deal high picks for needs going into the playoffs especially if they're only 2nd rounders.

The Rangers front office had no reason to believe that its core players would turn into the lion from the Wizard of Oz and have no will to win. Kane for a 2nd was/is the least of this team's issues this playoff year.

I’m not sure if this is in response to me or not. But I’ll just say that I’m okay with picks for vets. But I hate picks for vets with no shot of being re-signed.

Unless you win the Cup, trading a 1st for any rental is dumb, especially in a climate where talent making ELC money is premium in a cap world.

There is a list of about only 15 players in the league that I'm trading a 1st for as a rental. If you're trading a 1st, the return must have term and team control left on their deal.

I’d rather have the first round pick back. Trading high end assets for rentals is an almost always bad business.

Trading 1st round picks for rentals are always risky. Florida traded their 1st round picks for the next 3 years for Giroux, Chariot, and Reinhart.

Only Reinhart is on this run. But If they win the cup then who really cares. If not well that’s another story.

Rangers got booted the 1st round, have only 2 picks through the first 5 rounds in a very deep draft, and are cap constraint. At least Florida has cap to work with next season if they fail to win it all this year.

Drury got rope a doped with the STL trades. No matter the injury and things no one can control, it wasn’t good asset management from the get go.

Unfortunately the 2023-4 template looks like the below as of now. We have to now get reamed again to dump Goodrow and probably retain that stupid $641,667 just to make numbers work and keep KAM as a core piece. With an 84m cap, leaves us with 3.75 mil for 2 roster spots and cap reserve.

CK Mika Kakko
Pan Tro Vesey
Laf (2.4) Chytil ???
Edstrom ??? Cuylle
Brodz

Lind Fox
KAM (4.7) Trouba
Jones (.8) Schneider
Harpur

Igor / Halak (1.2)

They wont carry 22, theyll carry 21. Id go as follows

Laff-mika-kakko
Panarin-chytil-fast
Kredier-trocheck-vesey
Cuylle-brodzinski-motte
If/when motte goes out for a 10 game stretch call up trivigno to fill the slot until motte is back healthy

Kandre-fox
Gostisbehere-trouba
Robertson-schneider

Buy out/trade goodrow
Fast 2 X $2.4 or 3 X $2.25
Motte 2 X $1.25
Gostisbehere 4 X $4.6
Halak 1 X $1.3
Trade lindy for assets (hes my favorite player but were better off with gostisbehere as we need pmd’s)

He played 119 games over 4 seasons before coming to the Rangers. He scored 17 goals total in that span.

He played 54 games with the Rangers. 0 goals.

What's more likely to be true: that his injury only mattered on the Rangers and suddenly didn't matter and he flipped a switch after being traded and will be a 30 goal scorer. Or that he had a hot streak for a few games and will go back to being what he's always been.

Also, how can it be said that the Rangers didn’t give him a chance and in the same breathe say Lafreniere was given a chance, when Blais was inexplicably thrown into the top 6 repeatedly over Lafreniere.

even if true, it is still an approach which = fail
REPEATEDLY
@RangerBoy and I are right and whoever insists on cannibalizing assets for MAYBE short term gain is wrong, whether that is a signif # or not

You buy young assets pref foundation pieces and YOU BUILD

Doesn’t matter if you are right it’s common practice and often the only option .

Plus you just recoup picks with a Georgiev type deal later

NO it does matter
You need to max your deals as best as possible
Was Geo late the best return?
Our should we have dealt him to EDM or TOR long ago for a much better return?
Geo at this pt = opportunity cost from not being smart earlier

before I call it a day, would like to ask @Leonardo87 to assess various scenarios for Panarin to ANA.
Bread MIGHT go since he has chem w/Strome

Obv we'd be looking for cap relief more than assets...

Because saying “if they win the Cup then who cares” is like saying “if you spend $10,000 on lottery tickets but win the lottery then who cares?”

Kane proved Drury has no balls. Everything was obvious about the Kane situation but Drury fell for the brainless hivemind. It's literally his JOB not to f*ck up like that. He's the damn leader of the org.

And before anyone jumps at me I lol'd at the idea before Drury actually traded for him. I'm so fed up with all the stupid mistakes from the "leadership" group of this org.
Kane proved Sather still has input into the decision making.

If they move Lafreniere or Kakko instead of guys chewing up all the ice time and cap space i dont think i can be a ranger fan anymore. The reason i am one is that i was as a kid an oiler fan, that organization started trading all the wrong players and one by one the dynasty walked out the door and I said if they move Messier, I'm going with him and i went with him to NY, was done with Edmonton, if this team messes up this rebuild trading picks for one legged Kane's and aging stars only to move young players not given a chance I'll be done here too, i cant handle poorly run organizations.

this is what I believe will happen if they hire bum Lovy as coach. He loves his vets and clearly can’t develop talent

It was replying to Bern.

As to the 2nd part of your post - yeah, me too, mostly. It depends. I mean, Patrick Kane, a proven playoff guy as an added piece for a 2nd round pick? I'll do that all day and, yes, I realize it was contingent and could've cost more but that also means we would've been more successful. A move like Tampa made for Jeannot? Nope, nope and nope.

It really depends on the cost, where you think your team is, and who the player is.

No, this = you evaluate where your team is. If you're in win now mode, which this team is given it's players and its goalie, you REINFORCE if you have belief - which this team should have going into this year's dance.

Next year, I believe, Drury goes for role players and will. You (he) cannot be confident after what you saw this year from your core.

Honestly, there needs to be at least one MAJOR change to reverse that. Whatever that may be.
