I love the idea of people posting on this forum in their underwear on their couch saying “does Panarin have the will to win and if traded, would even want to go to a playoff contender?”

Just absolute nonsense from some of you lol
I mean technically we are almost always in our underwear.

I'm thinking you're kidding, BUT... FA signing? Dependent on cost, I would. He should be past the bulk of the knee rehab issues before training camp. He looked good with STL.
The guy was terrific when the Rangers traded him back to the Blues. The Rangers sent Blais to Hartford on a conditioning stint. He looked good. The Rangers brought him back and he played one game against the Flames . Blais played the way the Rangers wanted him to play in the Flames game. He hit Lucic who has been his line mate at the WC with Canada. Drury included Blais in the Tarasenko trade to make the money work.

Why not?

I thought YOU were kidding because a lot on here are very down on him. I'm all about it for the right contract. Thought I might be on an island there.

Domingue starts this season as backup and Garand has the net in the AHL. If Garand keeps up his solid play, then halfway through the year you switch them. Then, if Garand has the stuff at this level, trade Igor. Trade Panarin.

Have money for the 24 free agent class. Who gives a shit anymore.

He looked pretty good in that Calgary game too......just like it had all come together for him finally and then whammo shipped to Blues where he looked even better and exactly a type we missed in the playoffs . If we had of been able to throw Sammy and Julien out there we would have added a bit of some stuff we lacked in grit/speed . Oh well....Drury can't win all the trades.....but will he ever win one again ???

What’s hot and desirable today will be regrettable cap trash within months. Pointing at Sasha Barkov as an example, vast majority would have tied the anchor with him at any cap hit.

The window of success is so small now, the margin of error so slight. Maintaining flexibility and optionality is a win. We have very little of both.

As a few have already stated, the name of the game is to stay healthy, get hot at the right time, add the right pieces at the deadline, and get some puck luck.

Stop with the asinine video game transactions. Get realistic, understand more will remain the same. Personally, so can’t stand 13. I accept he will be back. Panarin has jersey sales around his finger. He’s not going anywhere.

Bottom line: In keeping the “core” in tact, and returning most all of the main pieces, what changes can be made to move this thing forward? That’s the scenario. Stop fighting it.

PS - The Panthers are out of the playoffs altogether unless the Hawks beat the Pens on 4/11. Chicago was +420 for that game. That’s how small the margin of difference is.

@Fitzy , you made a great point on twitter I was reading about Zibanejad. He has been underwhelming and his stats last postseason are misleading. Panarin has just been downright awful.

Fact is, both Drury and Gorton have handcuffed this team with big money, NMC deals. Other than fringe changes and bargain bin FA's, this team will return largely the same hoping for different results with a new coach.

The onus is on the coach to improve 5v5 play. As we saw, relying on goaltending and PP to win a series when 5v5 tightens doesn't always work (did last year, PP faltered this year).

But the keyboard warriors who blame Drury for trading for Kane, who was not the problem in the postseason, need to wake up. Tarasenko and Kane were least of our worries as pending UFA's rentals who scored 3 goals, which is 2 more than Trocheck, Panarin and Zibanejad combined. ALthough Trocheck was underwhelming, I'll give him benefit of doubt of having Playoff Pretender Panarin as an anchor

The biggest concern of all should be finding a coach who can find a way to get Missing Mika and Pretender Panarin to perform in the 16-win time, and not the 82 game time. No matter what systems the coach has, what adjustments he makes, who comes in FA or TDL, if Missing Mika and Pretender Panarin (who take up $20million, or 25% of the $80M cap) don't perform, this team will fail in the 1st round until Panarins contract expires in 3years.

That's the reality of our situation. It's dire, but thats just the non-video game truth of the 2023-2026 New York Rangers

Yea, his name is Sutter.

Either the players buy into his hard ass attitude, or they (Panarin) reject and they pout and request to be traded. Win/win

Yea, his name is Sutter.
While I don't disagree, after hearing Calgary's mass uprising against him, I'm not sure I would risk basically torturing the entire team because Mika and Panarin need to have a fire lit under their arse.

Unfortunately, there is alot invested in Kakko and Lafreniere breaking through next season. Not sure I peg Sutter as the guy to make that happen.

This coaching vacancy is not a desireable one if you ask me. Sure, its NY, MSG and you have a pretty good roster in place, but the Laf & Kakko dilemma paired with the Mika & Panarin problem is ALOT for an incoming coach to navigate, especially when its NY. I don't envy the guy thats chosen to do that.

While I don't disagree with the people who want to find the next Cooper or Bednar, now is just simply not the time. The incoming coach needs experience to navigate the complexity of this. He can't be learning on the job, it's just not a possibility right now.

Quenneville and Laviolette are names brought up for a reason. Q 3 Cups, Laviolette sees almost instant succees most places he goes (CAR, PHI, NSH). While I would love for Knoblaunch or Leach to be the next Cooper or Bednar for us, that chance will have to be put off until the next coaching hire. We need experience, a well-rounded developed coach at the NHL level, ready for instant success.

‘94 won in spite of Keenan. Know your history.

And I won’t root for any team run by a petulant tyrant. f*** that.
The petulant tyrant, was a driving force behind the trade deadline moves. As seen this season with Boston and even us and our deadline additions, the best team on paper doesn't always win. It's the team with the right makeup, and the coach who pushes the right buttons, along with clutch time stars and good goaltending.

1994: Team makes right moves but "is worse on paper" than before...Keenan knows what roster needs, and how to push right buttons, Messier and Richter serve as clutch star and goaltender. Traded skill, for role players who do a job, and do it well.

See: Florida. Anyone ever expect them to beat Boston? No. But Tkachuk, Montour, Bob, Bennett and Paul Maurice got it done.

Call Keenan a petulant tyrant and revoke your NYR fan card all you want, he knew what roster he needed, what he needed to do, and what the team needed to do to win. And he won. They won.

Missing Mika and Pretender Panarin don't hold a candle to Mess. Fox doesn't even hold a candle to Leetch, but aside from his terrible G7, he atleats holds up his end. Igor is not a worry.

Keenan, or any coach with a winning, hardworking, determined bone in their body, would be the best thing to happen to the 2023-2024 Rangers.

Were overthinking it here. With the little cap space we have, the needs of the team and the familiarity with the player, jesper fast is a no brainer. Throw him as 2nd line RW and alot of issues are solved.

Laff-mika-kakko
Panarin-chytil-fast
Kreider-trocheck-vesey
Cuylle-bjugstad-motte

Lindy-fox
Kandre-trouba
Jones-schneider
Harpur

Igor
Halak

Personally im in the camp of trade lindgren and then sign gostisbehere to something like 5 X 4.5 but I understand A) thats unpopular and B) gostisbehere might cost more.

Lindy is actually my favorite player but gostisbehere solves a big issue on our backend of not being able to move the puck. If we were to do that id go
