If true, that Chris Drury was " banging on tables" vouching for and insisting on taking Odie the Imo, then he should be shit canned today. Like an hour ago.

The Pavel Brendl pick that I'd never thought would happen again happened again.
It's amazing.

This team drafts tough guys that can't skate.
Finesse guys that have no drive.
Leadership guys that can't lead.

I vividly remember their excitement drafting him, and the comment about him being #2 on their board.

All of that said, I’m glad to see the evidence is showing that I was right about Drury. VK is basically the antithesis of a Drury pick.
The only Euro they hit on was Chytil if I'm remembering right.... and he was considered the 'riskiest' one.

Once again, I'm glad they're gone. I have much more faith in Drury and the new scouting staff.

If this is true, it may be the dumbest thing I've read in a while and understand now why we took Kravtsov, Lundkvist and Lindbum. Our Euro scouts were dog shit.

They had Kravtsov as the 2nd best forward in the draft? Who was he ahead of? Svech or Tkachuk? Was @EdJovanovski a part of Bobrov's crew? They literally had Kravtsov ahead of Svech or Tkachuk.... MIND NUMBING STUFF

You want to say 3rd best? maaaaaaaaaybe. Don't see how you could logically put him ahead of Hayton or Zadina though.... but hockey is different here.

Thank God those bozos and their bozo crew are gone.

The Rangers thought so highly of Kravtsov’s current ability and potential that they had him rated as the second-best forward of this draft class — ahead of Jesperi Kotkaniemi who went No. 3 to Montreal; ahead of Brady Tkachuck who went No. 4 to Ottawa; ahead of Barrett Hayton who went No. 5 to Arizona; ahead of Filip Zadina who went No. 6 to the Red Wings and obviously ahead of Oliver Wahlstrom, who went to the Islanders at No. 11.

9th overall, because we were trying to be smart and flashy. crapsoft was a late riser, which was already a catastrophic sign, just had couple of spicy highlights on tape.

Stings considering the players picked after him.
Was that the draft we also took Lindbum? In hindsight we're smarter, but jeez, what a waste of assets.
It's still weird to me that we didn't draft Jack Drury with the 2nd pick.

Yeah that would have just been dumb.

The crazy thing about Florida is that despite the fact that they were basically marred in sucking for a long time, their big contributors are NOT guys who came through their system.

Tkachuk - Trade
Reinhart - Trade
Bennett - Trade
Montour - Trade
Bob - UFA
Verhaeghe - UFA (and what a move this was)

The only top 10 picks who they have playing significant roles right now are Barkov who has had his moments but has been mostly quiet and Ekblad who has really struggled.

Bennet, Montour and Verhaeghe together BARELY cost more than Panarin.

When people ask how can you expect to move Panarin and get better, its by doing shit like that.
curious what the highest cap hit was on a cup winning team

So I’m watching Vegas and remembering how many here (including myself) had no interest in trading for Jack Eichel. All kind of reasons.

I guess that’s why we are sitting on the couch and not running a team.

no, it is because our coach sucked. Eichel was huge risk with injury/surgery, big asking price and big contract.

Panarin pushed himself hard to get where he is. We all know his 'from rags to riches' story. People say trade Lindgren before the miles catch up, well... Panarin is in the same boat. He is very far from the CBJ player now, sadly. To his credit I do think he seriously tried to get to improve his fitness this season, especially compared to 21-22.
I am pretty sure Panarin is around the least of the rangers problems.

I mean he doesn't have to even "learn."

the team's xGF and xGA both went in positive directions when he was paired with Miller vs Lindgren. Miller-Fox had an xGF% of 61% with an xGA/60 of under 2 (xGF for those 2 was 3.15.) Again, this is in 1/8th of the time that Lindgren-Fox spent together, but it's a pretty significant jump up regardless.

Lindgren is a good player. Fox can and has performed better with other partners.

Now I'll say this, I don't think the previous system did our D any favors in terms of getting the puck out of their own end. Our forwards were rarely in a position to help and it usually took them whipping the puck through a layer of defense just to get the puck onto the stick of a teammate. Thats asking A LOT of your defensemen. We sucked at transitions, but I've seen some teams out there with inept puck movers who look better because their system vs what was ran here was like climbing stairs vs climbing stairs with a 100lb weight vest.

I have every bit of confidence that with the right approach, all of our defensemen will improve there (Lindgren included.) I would still like to add another pure PMD/OFD, mostly since having a really good one on your 3rd pair is pretty essential in tilting the ice when your lesser forwards are out there and you don't have to worry about them beefing shit if they happen to be out there with better players.

I wouldn't mind giving Lindgren and Trouba a look with a different coach. Theoretically it wouldn't work (and maybe it won't) but if you can simplify the breakouts perhaps it would. Trouba was decent there 2 years ago (believe it or not, actually the second best on the team during the RS of 2021-22) and Lindgren can handle the defensive load there.

The Issue I'd have with Jones-Trouba is that neither of them are strong defenders.

Trouba has gotten a reputation as being this strong defender but thats never been the case. Hes our weakest pure defender in the top 4.

I'm of the opinion that they should just stick Jones-Schneider together and let them try to figure it out.
I was very much in favor of the Jones-Trouba pairing - and I’m still interested in it. For offense reasons. But I think you’re right about the pure defensive part. They’re both pretty poor.

Im on these boards way too much and havent seen this to be the case at all. In fact, I see it more the other way around where fans project Gorton's bad moves on Drury even though he was probably at best the 4th or 5th most prominent voice in Gorton's cabinet.

Quoting myself here but I find it humorous that the last page and a half of this thread was blaming Drury for the Kravtsov pick, meanwhile it was explicitly the amateur scouting staff under Gorton that whiffed. Thats how fake news starts, folks.

Anyway, more and more I think the Rangers are going to try to bring back the exact same team if the cap allows. We've seen the baseline for this squad is 100 points and a divisional playoff spot. If they can get the coach right, and bring along Jones/Robertson/Cuylle/Othmann, I think that's all they need. The ingredients are good, we just need to use them in a different way imo.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Lafreniere
Cuylle-Trocheck-Goodrow
Motte-Brodzinski-Vesey

Miller-Fox
Jones-Trouba
Lindgren-Schneider

Igor
Halak

Spread the ice time. Everyone pulling on the same rope for once. Jones/Cuylle crack the NHL roster out of camp and Othmann/Robertson show up in December/January.

By not signing Zibanejad. That’s what I wanted at least.

The clowns who put up that billboard in Buffalo should be laughed off the planet.

Hindsight is 20/20. Committing to an injured Eichel at the expense of Zibanejad at that time would've been a massive risk. Vegas was the right spot for him, they had the appetite and the need to take the risk.

Sign Kane 3 x $4. LTIR him.
Sign Vlad 3 x $5.
Trade Goodrow (unfortunately) to free up cap space.
Sign Motte 2 x $1
Sign Laf 2 x $2.750
Consider trading Miller for picks and avoid the contract extension.
Sign Mikkola 3 x $2.750
Promote Cuylle
Look for a cheap vet D or promote Jones/Robertson.

Salary cap says hello
And goodbye.

If the plan is to make the team worse now and for the foreseeable future, then mission accomplished. That is truly a horrid list of moves.

Lots of heavy playoff type UFA..Perry,Barbeshev,Jordan Staal,Beruzzi,Fast etc...we need cap space..Artemi is the key to rebuild for playoffs..Since lots of teams up against cap it should depress free agent money..Drury has his work cut out for him

This will be the lasting memory of the Eichel thing for me. That sabotaged any chance of the move. It should have happened but Buffalo refused to deal with the Rangers afterwards. Laughing them off the planet would give them too much attention

Ironically the issue with the Eichel saga was the idiots sitting on the couch

My favorite was the dumbass "Church of Kakko" crap before the kid had ever played a game. Im sure the 18 year old getting acclimated to a new country loved the pressure of having a "church" named after him with a dud in his 30s dressed like a priest. Cringy as hell.

There's no way Drury is responsible for Kravtsov. Stop. Just think about this. Sure, he may have scouted him.... This is Bobrov and Clark. It's their M.O.

We do not take Kravtsov without Clark and Bobrov here.
Bobrov yes, Clark not so much. When did he ever draft high end skill forwards esp from Russia and in the first round. He always drafted US, Canadian players with character. It all changed once Bobrov/Gorton were in charge. Clarke first round picks w/Slats McIlrath, Krider, Miller, Skjei. Gorton took over 7/1/15 he went on to draft Andersson, Chytil, Krav, K. Miller, Lundkvist. I def think Bobrov was pretty much the head of scouting without the title at that point, also why he went to MTL w/Gorts. Schneider is the exception here but I think that was more JD/Clarke based on the reaction to getting him at the draft.
