panarin being moved has almost 0 chance of occurring - he holds all the leverage. he specifically wanted to be in ny...i suppose if things were made so bad for him here he really wanted out, but we aren't there. that would mean basically scratching or cutting his mins to 0 type stuff. it won't be this summer and it's unlikely at all, but no matter when/if he's moved, the return will be almost nothing, probably a cap offset and something of value - how much value will be determined by how much cap hit we ate.

one thought that i think is worth exploring is clayton keller - know there's been some "everything is fine" rumors pushed out post his meeting the team but...worth kicking those tires. he's the pipe dream roster add for this roster with his speed and skating ability...someone who can easily transition the puck and gain the zone with possession. there's very little i wouldn't give up to make a deal for him work - he's the only player potentially available i'd consider moving laf for - and maybe a deal around him makes sense. tourigny is french canadian, laf's age fits perfectly with the coyotes roster, he's reunited w/ hayton, gets a fresh start in a less visible market so maybe that creates some appeal. the real problem is cap - i imagine they're on goodrows no trade list. i'd be ok moving chytil too, i'm not sure what evens the value exactly and cap wise - but i doubt much more than those two, or just chytil +. but keller is elite and his skillset is what maximizes this roster with what he brings and the roster needs. he's also still 24 and locked in at a very affordable contract long term. to me this is akin to matthew tkachuk to the panthers, likely without the regular season issues that florida had adjusting to maurice. you make every possible effort to make this happen if there's even a chance it can....he's that valuable as a need in how to push this team over the top.

you can create a winner with this roster without him, but this is a lot cleaner and a more permanent fix that locks it in as a contender for 2-3 years minimum, and can extend well beyond with solid roster/cap mgmt and drafting well. he'd be mid prime as the mika/kreider/panarin/trouba contracts begin rolling off to build around.

This is my new meme.

Lord save me I can't stop laughing at this.

I give no optimism

They are what they are.

Most likely, in my opinion, they will retool like 6 times. End up, never that bad, never that good.

It's what the Rangers do.
I read every post on these roster threads and enjoy all the great and fun ideas.

BUT. I come back to this every time. We have the receipts. Never the worst, almost never the best. It’s been the same for almost 60 years. Except for 1994.

Sometimes I wonder if that puck that bounced off of Bernie actually went past Richter and we have all been suffering from a mass delusion to keep us all sane because the bitter, true reality is way too much to handle. Sometimes.

I think maybe we at least see how Panarin responds to a coach that doesn't suck assuming we manage to hire one.
The problem is, I don’t care how he responds in October and November. We’re not going to know how he’s going to respond in the playoffs, which is what everyone is upset about, until the playoffs.

I mean, I know how he’s going to respond (he’s not). We all know that deep down I think.

Fast forward to the 2022 and 2023 playoffs where.

That SAME Artemi Panarin skates over the blueline, sees a Dman sliding over to him, immediately slams on the brakes, circles back up to said blueline in an attempt to avoid contact of any kind, because you know, ( skillz, no owies).

Artemi then tries a cross ice pass from blueline, past that dman, through the backchecking center, over the stick of the opposing teams right winger, and onto the tape of a NYR right winger who is 5 feet off the half-boards in no position to do shit.

Youre on to something here i think. Keller is very much what the team needs in the top 6 at RW. The Rangers have always liked him since his US Junior days. I'm sure a Lafreniere + Lindgren headlined package would interest Arizona. Offload Goodrow elsewhere on top of that (I doubt he'd waive for Arizona) and NYR would have the cap space to do it comfortably. Jones/Robertson knocking on the door mitigates the loss of Lindgren. Having Keller on that deal through his age 29 season is a window extender. Love this idea tbh. The type of deal where I'd have no problem dealing Laf.

It is. That goal was dirty.

I don't know how anyone (not you) can watch this and think that he still moves the same though.
he definitely doesn't move the same...

but I haven't seen him move his legs like that since 2019... he's been stuck in 1st gear.. Is it still possible for him to skate like that?

I think he can get to play with much better pace, not what he's been over the past few years.

yea, i would really, really want drury to pull the trigger on this if keller wants out. sounds like we're on the same page being generally against trading laf, but i'd make an exception here...and the fact that there are a few reasons the coyotes might have some real interest in bringing him in makes it seem somewhat realistic. only thing is it can't be like chychrun where ari dragged his request out like 3 years. you can't have that hanging over the team. but laf+. personally i think chytil makes sense as the other piece because of his position. he's not gonna be the 4c, and mika/keller being 1 and 2 leaves troch who you can build an elite shutdown line around as the 3c. i'd be ok with lindgren too i just love the edge he has that's rare on the team and he's become a really good player for us so i'd more easily part with fil but i get why others may lean more towards him. you could also move him in keller deal and chytil in another move...i don't think chytil wants to play wing is my primary reason for thinking he'd be collateral damage. probably have to add a high pick or one of our better prospects to get it done, but to me if you get them on the phone discussing it you don't let them hang up until there's a firm agreement.

Id want to hang on to Chytil because Keller doesn't really play center anymore. Pretty strictly a winger. Also Chytil and Keller buzzing on a line together is where I'd want to play them. I still wouldnt know what the hell to do with Panarin but putting him on a line with Chytil/Keller who can both score 30 goals and play fast might mitigate the fact that he's lost a step. Vesey/trocheck would be 2/3s of the shutdown 3rd line we've been searching for.

Kreider-Mika-Kakko
Panarin(i guess)-Chytil-Keller
Cuylle/Othmann-Trocheck-Vesey

I think if we're going to keep Panarin, landing someone like Garland makes a lot of sense to play opposite him.

Maybe even a guy like Zucker as a UFA, how much would he cost?

Trocheck I think would be better too without the 'do what you want' system.

Any speedsters like Vaerhaghe or Duclair available?

Domi maybe? Wood? Engvall? Gurianov?
