I liked Fast but I don’t want/need him back and he won’t fix any of the issues plaguing this team
I think the point is that we need more players like him.

We should be hoping Sykora turns into our new Fast. Keep drafting players with a motor. Not because of any archaic love of 'effort' teams, but because this team desperately needs a bottom 6 with speed, a forecheck, and the ability to finish checks if it's going to balance a very finesse (and slow) heavy front of the roster.

No, I don’t think you want the kid to fail, and I apologize if it comes off that way, buddy.
And I’m not guaranteeing he ever finds consistency. I’m just saying that it’s not unusual for it to take a player longer than his D+3 to do so. Especially one brought along and utilized as Laf has been. He has shown flashes of that high end skill and even with his lack of consistency he's already a solid physical NHLer. At 21. I really don’t think I’m “out there” on this assessment, but maybe I’m nuts.
Anyway I think most of us who debate this really already know where each other stand, so I really should curb my commenting on it. Hahaha. l am sure we both hope I end up being right.
No harm bud, I am totally about patience with kids as they develop, but I also look for kids to have personal responsibility regarding how they control their own parts of their development and if you see significant flashes in NHL games of what made them stand out prior to getting to the NHL. This is where I get so frustrated with laffy because I typically don't see any of that and now with some of the comments being made about his conditioning both here and more strikingly by valley publicly it just feels like a kid that was made to feel very comfortable with his position within this organization without having to actually earn a damn thing. To me that's just another example of the entitlement around here. There are players all over the place that are drafted without even a 10th of the hope and hype of this kid that are busting their asses all the time and working hard to earn even a third line spot. This kid from day one just always seems like he fit in great with the group but he never had to earn his place in the group. Kakko feels like he's constantly had to earn his place within the group because for whatever reason the team's highest paid player doesn't want to play with him, but even with that I still feel like KK shows flashes at the NHL level of the same player that he was before he got here. You can see those parts of his game that can distinguish him as he evolves more. Now one of the things that people constantly disregard when talking about these two guys is that kakko is a year older and has one extra year of NHL development at this point, but I really felt that this past season was going to be a massive season for laffy, More so than kakko because I still felt that even though kakko was struggling to fully establish himself he had demonstrated his tools at this level that will eventually put him into a role to be a contributor on a good team. 2 years ago I said he looked like he could be nichuskin. Now is that the player that you're hoping to get with the second overall pick, no, but it's still a very important player on a winning team and we saw that last year. Right now when you look at laffy I struggled to see those pieces that tell you that you're looking at a guy who's definitely going to be a top six player that makes an impact in some manner. I hope it's there and I hope he wants to put the work in to show it but I'm not convinced

The Kings situation will never cease being funny to me. All the picks in the world, draft all the CENTERZ and the only one to do anything went to LW after years of back injuries.

Hey this is our time to finally get noted vanilla cupcake Rasmus Kupari. Be still my heart.

Kings are the Rangers West without a goalie. Blocked all their prospects with veterans and none of them developed. It's almost like that has an effect on young players. Time for us to rectify that before its too late.

I asked Google's Bard what the Rangers need to do to develop their young talent:

The New York Rangers have a lot of young talent, but they need to do a better job of developing it. Here are a few things they can do:
  • Give them more ice time. The Rangers have a lot of veterans on their roster, and they often get the most ice time. This can be frustrating for young players, who need to play in order to develop. The Rangers need to find a way to give their young players more ice time, even if it means sitting some of their veterans.
  • Pair them with good veterans. Playing with good veterans can help young players learn the game and develop their skills. The Rangers need to find a way to pair their young players with good veterans, who can help them succeed.
  • Give them a good coach. A good coach can help young players develop their skills and reach their full potential. The Rangers need to find a coach who is willing to work with their young players and help them improve.
  • Be patient. Developing young players takes time. The Rangers need to be patient and not expect their young players to be stars overnight. They need to give them time to develop and learn the game.
If the Rangers can do these things, they will be well on their way to developing their young talent and becoming a successful team.

"Win now" (with this vet group) and "develop the kids" do not mix. There are too many contradictions with this team for it to be win now without some serious roster work. The top lines need fixing/balancing, the D need a couple of players who can skate and move the puck, 3 good C's but nobody to put their stick on the puck and take charge (Zib apart maybe).

Auston Matthews, AKA playoff legend, 2 points in 5 games vs. the Panthers and zero goals.

AKA Panarin.

Yeah, let's get this guy here immediately. He'd fit right in.

tavares 0 goals, marner 0 goals, nylander 2 goals and 1 was really lucky. this shit happens all the time over small samples.

Im bored, he’s my NHL 23 trade proposal. Don’t judge; beers have helped me with this proposal :nod:

Laf + Panarin for Marner + serviceable piece for Rangers. Both teams need a shakeup.

Interesting.
How about Lafreniere plus our 22nd/23rd overall for a pick around the 10ish range if Michkov falls? Would never happen still tho

I'd take him because he only has 1 year left on his contract. If he plays like Panarin did then he can go to Arizona and play in that new arena which is really a parking lot next to a Target.

I think I’d pull the trigger. I keep debating with myself on if I’d trade Laf for a 1st this year though.

On one hand he hasn’t been performing great but he’s still worth a 1st… for now. Trade him and you get a 1st & save cap.

On the other hand maybe the new coach can help him and he becomes a solid player. Maybe he thrives on another team and there’s always that *what if*. @ the same time maybe he just continues to bust here and we get niente for him.

Idk. It’s a tough choice and there’s definitely teams that would be interested for him this draft
