Another consequence of the cap shooting up is that I think it’s a real possibility that not only does Kreider play out his whole contract here, but the rest of his career.
Fine with me. He did exactly what he needed to do to prolong his career. His skating can further take a hit and he'll still pot 20 or 25 a year just by going to the front of the net on the power play. This generation's Tomas Holmstrom.

That isn’t a terrible consequence. His cap hit is team friendly vs his production. As long as he slots into a 3rd line role it’ll be fine.

I mean, this all sounds like it makes sense but having a great goalie and a good team don't have to be mutually exclusive things.

And, let's see, Igor is traded at a deadline, hits UFA, and signs with the Penguins or whoever else in the Metro. Do you want to go through him EVERY YEAR for the next 8 years? That's a secondary risk you're taking.

Not really an issue for me. Don't think it's a risk worth considering IMHO.

Shit, I'd trade him to ANY team if the return made sense.

Don't really care what he does after he's gone.

I love how "obtuse" has become the new Webster's Dictionary word of the month that's making it rounds on message boards everywhere, kind of how "hyperbolic" did a couple years ago. Curious what the next one might be ha
I thought it was better than calling him a prick. Which he actually isn't...I usually like reading his posts.

Trade w/Jones to LAK
for
Byfield, Clarke, late LA 2024 1st, Talbot

LA is now 3/4 mil below cap
Shesty + ZJ = 5.6+ + .81+ = just over 6.4+ ish
Talb = 1 By + Clarke elcs .89+ + .86+ = 1.75+

so 6.4+ - 1.75+ = ballpark 4.7 short term cap dump we have to add from them

1. makes LA fave in conf
2. helps Rs w/foundational quality pieces ready/close to ready
3. forces ny to develop youth [Garand]
4. bite back in the ass factor is minimal b'c you shipped Shesty out of conf

Outside chance in 2 yrs he reups here w/a better team

meanwhile tell Talb starter gig is his until Garand takes it away

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Kings would not give up tjat much for a goalie they know is not needed to win a Cup.

Vasi - you're going "see how the rest of his contract pans out"? He's won multiple Cups already. It's a win already.

It’s funny how different people can look at the same situation and walk away from it with two polar opposite interpretations. Vasi is my go to example for exactly how NOT to manage your goaltending situation.

Yes, the Bolts won their second Cup while Vasi was on his big contract. But the team was widely criticized for completely circumventing the cap that season, and they’ve been struggling to field a competitive team while bleeding assets to fill holes ever since.

I do think the calculus is a bit harder after winning a Cup. Like, if the Rangers manage to win while Igor is on his current contract, you almost have to just pay him in reward. But if they can’t get it done while he’s still a bargain, how are they going to get it done when he’s occupying twice the cap space?

saw this on twitter. This person seems to have legit info/sources on Oilers. Predicted Connor Brown signing in Edmonton days before July 1. Maybe we are bringing back Tarasenko

Completely fake. Kane made it clear he was going to one team. The Rangers didn't up their offer, they had to clear cap space.

Ah yes. The classic "he didn't want to come back to our team that's going to be anywhere from mediocre to ass the next 5 years, so let's smear him" campaign.

Give me a break. This is literally the first time I've seen a bad word about the guy.
And this is why the internet sucks. People posting bullshit, innuendo & rumors with absolutely zero accountability.

This is the squad.

IF. IF Panarin does not perform, he will be shipped out. We will either add 2 strong players or another 'superstar'.

We need someone to take the reigns of this offense. It's suppose to be Panarin. He's paid to be that guy. There's no way around that obvious truth

I’m curious what the rest of this list looks like. What’s the average age of the youngest team? Does this data mean anything at all?
It means we signed short term help like Wheeler, Bonino and Pitlick that drves our average age up until Cuylle, Othmann and others make the team and bring our age back down some.

Elliotte believes Tarasenko will sign a one year deal and become a free agent again next summer when the salary cap increases. Some teams would give 2 or 3 years but Tarasenko is more likely to sign a one year deal.

Ottawa
Carolina
San Jose
Nashville
Florida

Karlsson will get moved to either Carolina or Pittsburgh

I said now and in our plans going forward. Yes, I include Laf and Kakko. As well as Schneider, Chytil and others. They are all legit NHLers and all in our plans his year and beyond. You arbitrarily set a bar of just about all star in order for a player to be part of the core. I don’t. That doesn’t make me incorrect. It makes our takes different. I guess a team with no one at all star level has zero core? That’s not how I look at it. And since I’ve already explained several times what I meant, I’m not sure why you are hell bent on trying to impose your arbitrary definition of “core” on my point. It’s like you are trying to have a semantics argument over core, and I’m trying to talk about why the average age of our team shot up. And no it’s not just that everyone on the team, and in the league, got a year older, it’s because we added cheap older vets that arent going to be part of a longer trend. Who cares if we are average of two years older this year(to pick a number) if next year we are two years younger? Are Zibs, Kreider and Pan falling off a cliff this year?
You're entitled to use whatever definition you want, but it goes against every definition of "core" I've ever heard. Yes, it's your all-star caliber players. I've literally never seen anybody use a different parameter.

Short answer: no.

The average age of a 23-man roster doesn't vary that much across the league.

You have to look at who the team is relying on and what the ages are of those players.

You also have to look at contacts. 32 and under control for a few more years is almost certainly better than 28 and a UFA next year.

That's where my concern lies. The only player I give half a f*** about right now who's u30 and locked up is Adam Fox.

Might as well take one year here and be where his family wants to be. :)

Dolan concierge services don't count against the cap.

We can make this work. Not easily, but we can. One-year "prove it" deal. Dump Goodrow and sign Tarasenko for 1 year, 3M. Bam. Enough money to bridge Laf and K'Andre as well.
