Good asset move by the leafs. Someone will give them a 4th in a year and a half for Reaves.

He's gonna be 38 when that time comes. He could barely keep up in the 2022 playoffs. I guess maybe some team could be "desperate" for a guy like him?

Man, next season is going to be something with the people who like Dubas laughing at the Leafs, or the people who hate Dubas laughing if the Leafs have a good playoff run.

Lol, here we go.

A conundrum for @GoAwayPanarin

The 2 year projection for Miller is $3.65M. Evan Bouchard has the same projection. I heard Elliotte Friedman say he thinks Edmonton can only afford Bouchard on a one year deal but that was before Yamamoto was traded. I read a roster projection for Edmonton. $5M for both Bouchsrd and McLeod. AFP has Bouchard at $3.65M. and McLeod at 2 years $1.7M AAV. I really like McLeod. He is a very good player. He played for less than his QO last season.

Forget about the Dobson contract. $4 million. 3 years. The Rangers need every penny. The Rangers will just pay Miller $5M-$6M in two years instead of in three years.

How much for Quick? The guy has made a ton of money in his career. $775,000. One year. $225,000 in bonuses.

$87,675,000 in 24-25.

Robertson needs to step up and compete for a spot. He is a tall and rangy defenseman. Those are the players teams win with in the playoffs.

The Rangers coaching staff will need to get everything out of the Rangers young players. The Rangers really them to take the next step.

There are a number of them on several of the same teams’ radar: Florida, Edmonton, Vancouver and others looking for the proper depth fit. Those include Nick Bjugstad, Teddy Blueger, Evan Rodrigues and more.
The Rangers need to be fishing in the lower end of this pool.

With Jonathan Quick headed to the Rangers, don’t be shocked if Cam Talbot ends up in Los Angeles.
LA is going with Talbot and Copley. Woof.

I’m really watching Carolina. I think the Hurricanes have big plans, including a Sebastian Aho extension in the 8x$9.5M range. They’ve got to sort out their goaltending and figure out where they’re going with Brett Pesce. Negotiations have their ups and downs, so I tend not to freak out about things, but word at the draft was Pesce is prepared to play out his final contracted season and see where things go.

But they have flexibility, ingenuity and a coach players love playing for. After their disappointing Eastern Conference Final sweep at the hands of Florida, the expectation is they are going to be aggressive. No one would be surprised if they pitch everyone from Tyler Bertuzzi to Vladimir Tarasenko to Dmitry Orlov to Blake Wheeler (who played for GM Don Waddell in Atlanta). They can offer more money on shorter term (say, for argument’s sake, 2x$6.5M for Orlov) until the cap goes up. Not sure where this all lands, but I’d be surprised if the Hurricanes don’t make news.

He was off the charts good for the first 2 rounds and first couple games.

Reaves is good for the game but he’s all sizzle no steak.

Cuylle, Robertson & Jones need to be on the NHL roster. I hope they train like it. Othmann has a chance to make it too if he shows he can take a hit in training camp. We are stuck with this roster but it’s very talented with award winning players. Improvement will come from within.

There may be some suprising bargains to be had this offseason looking at all the names not being qualified. Flat cap is coming home to roost for the whole league.

I am intrigued by Michael McLeod as others have mentioned. His offensive numbers aren't great, but they're adequate for a 4th line player. What really sticks out is his face off numbers. 57.3% in 21-22 and 60.6% in 22-23. That's outstanding. He's young enough to sign and retain as a long-term 4th line center at 25 years old. Good skater.

Devils didn't qualify him so he's a UFA. Perfect buy-low target for the Rangers.

His linemate Boqvist was also not qualified. Another youngish player that can skate and fills a 4th line role.

Can the Rangers afford both?

That Goodrow contract is horrendous.

Watch this happen:

Kreider - Zib - Duchene ($1M)
Kids
Panarin - Tro - Wheeler ($1M)
Vesey - Goodrow - Bargain bin league minimum signing
#13: Blidh

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Robertson/Jones - Schneider
Oaf Harpur

Shesty
Quick

They then also sign Patrick Kane in November and stash him on LTIR until PO:s. They simply cannot help themselves…

It might be a boring UFA class in terms of top talent, but there are tons of bottom-6 and bottom pairing guys available and could be available for cheap. The flat cap has completely changed the landscape.

Sad thing is, we probably can't afford to sign a single one.

You hearing anything?

Given the flat cap and contenders needing pieces…anyone think it’s possible to see free agent sign and trades? The trade deadline showed 3 team trades for retention purposes i.e Kane. Could we see one year deals for a Duchene, Wheeler, etc where say the Ducks sign one of them for say $5 million but then trade them for assets with retention?

The Rangers aren’t in THAT bad of a spot. If you look at cap friendly Drury has the ability to pay a few players just over $1m, especially if Jones and Cuylle are penciled in.

They could conceivably sign Eller at $1.3m, Smith at $1.3m and Kostin at $1.1m.

The key is the team needs to NOT carry an extra player on the roster. If an injury happens call someone up. With that being the case, I would expect Drury to sign 3-4 veteran tweeters who can be waived and then called back as needed.

Also if teams strike out on certain UFAs trading Goodrow isn’t out of the question

I’m also in the i am fine keeping him camp but just saying trades will occur today and into Sunday too

Our roster is pretty much set minus a couple insignificant tweaks. Capped out a year removed from signing Trochek to too long of a deal when we could have promoted chytil and Goodrow in the 2c 3c slots and found a 4th line c. It's on the kids to lift this team up. All the draft picks sent out the door on a team that wasnt ready the last two years, tell me Sather still runs this team without telling me Sather still runs this team

What did Goodrow show you last year that said he would be a good 3C?

I read this article earlier. Does Drury really believe this team is winning with this roster?
Do any of us believe this team is winning with this roster?

Can’t do anything about it until you can move Trouba, Kreider, Panarin, someone with big money. Even moving Goodrow just gives you breathing room operating space.

Robertson OR Jones. Both would force one of them to be the 7th D which is no good for a young player.
