Colorado in trouble now without their captain and Big Val. What about a big boy deal where we send Panarin to Colorado for Toews and Newhook? Or Kreider for Toews? Something like that?
Not the most outlandish idea I have heard on here. There is a possibility that Landeskog and Nick are not on the roster for 23-24. That is a lot of their top wing production. But I would bet it wouldn't even get you both Toews and Newhook for Panarin. Likely just Toews and maybe a younger prospect like Foudy and their 1st.

Murphy was someone on Knoblauch's staff in Hartford before he was added to Gallant's staff.

Makes you think that Knoblauch is either a very serious candidate or they are still making decisions based on how the team in Hartford does.

I'm guess Landeskog's cap number will be gone if he misses next year?!
Maybe some miracle the Avs think Panarin can be a beast with MacKinnon playing with him? Why wouldn't Panarin waive to play for a team like the Avs?
Slim hope for it but you never know.

It's crazy they have like 7 or 8 UFA's and 3 RFA's! Even if they gain a ton of cap space with no Landeskog/Nick not coming back would they want to allocate 11.6 to Panarin when they have half a roster to fill? Maybe? Maybe not?

Zibanejad is a Center
Trocheck is a Center
Chytil is not a Center
When I look at constructing any roster, in an ideal world, I would have (5) centers on the roster to start any season. Ideally, that would include (4) guys who can play a top-9 role. This is obvious but it's in case of an injury and the ability to shuffle things around as needed.

If I am looking at this roster and players that tend to play well together, for me, it's clear that Kreider and Trochek have some chemistry and Kreider and Chytil do as well. That's a line. Whether it's Trochek at RW or Chytil I don't care.

The obvious next step is going to be trying to back-fill that 3C slot however which becomes very hard with the cap issues....

For sure. I do not think it will happen, but they can make it work. Their Cap situation is very interesting. Especially if those 2 guys wont count against it. Their RFAs are in a very similar position to ours actually. Byram is likely looking at a similar deal to Miller unless they go long-term. Newhook is almost an exact mirror of Laf, Chytil and Kakko. Malgin is kinda like a forward Jones. Probably goes 1 year at 1 million to see what he can do.

They would have a top 9, 6 d and 2 goalies with 10 million in cap space. Assuming the promote 1 or 2 prospects. Not perfect, but very interesting.

I think this board has too lofty a standard for constitutes a center. The game has changed a lot. I'd go so far as to say there's more wingers playing elite-level defense now.

People still have the traditional view of what a center is.

Not only are they less important than ever, they're not pure playmakers anymore. There are plenty of wingers who play that role on teams now.

The most annoying and frustrating thing is that this entire roster (outside of Lindgren probably) was healthy going into the playoffs. Complete waste.

Look at other teams like Carolina and Colorado facing major injuries to star players. Landeskog is now out for the entire 24 season.

What an epic fail

I think it’s likely that Landeskog’s career is over. If Nuke is also out, they may get desperate for scoring help. And yes, wishful thinking from me trying to pawn Panarin off, but who knows how he’s valued around the league. Players like him are “never available” remember.

I think there is a way to move him, I just don't think thats the destination.

They already need to replace 2 guys for next year, Panarin for a pair of bodies makes that 3 and would give them even less money to spend.

What we need to happen is for Florida to falter somewhere along the way with their FO determined to find Barkov a scoring winger. If he goes Nuclear the rest of the way that will take it off the table but heres hoping!

I'd give Greg Carvel one season with these guys. He's all about character and workmanship. Very meat and potatoes kind of guy.

He coached him at Erie and loved him.

I'd be okay with it too. He's a pretty good player and won't break the bank after missing almost all of last season.

I'm down with Brown

But seriously when I look at him, I see him as the type of player who would plug more than one hole for this team. He played a pretty responsible game. I would hope he would be on the Rangers radar and I would hope that a player like him would see the Rangers as a good opportunity to rebuild his value after a lost season.
