Another reason why I rush to the podium to take Michkov in a hypothetical Lafreniere for 5th overall. If the kid doesn't defect tomorrow, he's in Russia for three more years and he comes here a 1st line RW out of the box at 21 years old. No development needed.

You and I both know that Laf would notch 80 points next season and Michkov would get drafted into the war and be killed.

I was being facetious... mostly. One can't miss prospect I can put on the player. But two? Something fundamentally wrong there.

I can count the number of legitimate top-six forwards we've drafted and developed in the last 20 years on one hand. Messing up Laf and Kakko is a whole new level.

And yes, completely agree with you. I can buy calling Lafreniere a bust because he bullied the Q amd didn't develop any more hockey skills after he turned 16, but my gosh, Kakko looked about as sure of a thing after the Worlds where he made regular NHL'ers look silly as an 18 year old.

Carlsson and Smith are going 3rd and 4th. Something really unexpected happens if that doesn't. Starting at Montreal things get really interesting. I think Arizona goes D with one of their top 12 picks. They need a big top pairing defenseman to replace Chychrun. They will still be able to get a really good forward at 12.

better be for number 5 and either Michkov/Smith/Fantilli. Not giving up on a young dman who has tremendous tools for a 8/9th overall that might not even be much better than the guy at 23.

The wildest outcome of all. We make our selections, they are good for where we are drafting, no trades and we announce Laf and Miller contracts before free agency. Just crazy.
