Motte thinks he is getting the bag in free agency. Let him explore free agent. Last summer, Motte want unsigned for the entire summer. He signed for one year and $1.35M. I am sure Drury has told him what the Rangers are willing to pay. Motte isn't getting the bag. So many players will be available this week. Some players will not be qualified. That will only add to the glut.

The Rangers should trade Goodrow for free or buy him out by Friday. The Bruins fans were appalled Sweeney didn't get an asset for Hall. They freed up $6M. Nashville had to retain 50% of Johanssen to free up $4M. Last summer, Vegas traded Pacioretty's $7M to Carolina for free. Vegas attached a young D some people liked. Goodrow has a 15 team no trade list. His agent would be open to a trade to a team on the list because they don't want a buyout. What type of contract is Goodrow getting this summer as a free agent?
Agree with this. Motte is a serviceable 4th liner who can move up the lineup in a serious pinch. But he did nothing to help himself last season

I mean there is a solid chance Vilardi ends up better then PLD. He had 23 goals /41pts in 63 games. That's pacing to 30 goals/53pts in over 82 games. And he's 23

Remember how PLD was available from CBJ as a 22 year old 6’4 center who had scored 48 as a rookie, 61 as a sophomore and 49 in 70 games his third year but then he got demonized because of one clip of him floating when Torts was benching him and people didn’t want to move Chytil for him? And then he wasn’t worth anything because he would only sign with Montreal, period? And now he’s coming off of back to back 60+ point seasons and just signed an 8x8.5M contract with a team that ISN’T Montreal, the day after his 25th Bday?

Just turned 25, has played six seasons and has scored 60+ in 3, 48+ in another 2 and had 21 in 46 the one season where he wasn’t essentially a 50 point player. Hasn’t played a game in the NHL above the age of 24 yet. Chytil will be 24 before the season begins and it will be his 6th season and he has yet to hit 48 points, which is basically PLD’s career low. 6’4, 220, has improved to 49% on faceoffs, just turned 25 and just signed with another young team in the midst of rebuilding and will be a fixture there and likely an 80+ point player. Kind of like how Danault went there and has been a 50+ point defensive stud when people here called him a “black hole”. Should have ponied up for him when CBJ had him on the block. He’d have signed here and we’d have PLD instead of Trochek.

LA had a roster crunch too with a lot of their recent high picks being ahl/nhl tweeners and they were gonna have to put several on waivers if they didn't make it.

I like it for LA. Best player usually wins these deals.

And PLD has never played a game in the NHL above the age of 24 (he turned 25 yesterday) and has broken 60 points 3 times and is a 6’4 center. I hate how much this site actually adheres to the “hockey’s future” tag. Vilardi is 1.5 years younger and has never hit 50 points and PLD has hit 60x3 and approximately 50 x5.

All I hear is echoes of points schmoints

BRUTAL deal for LA. Paid that much for a 2nd line head case.

If he was a head case he wouldn’t have signed an extension in LA and would be MTL bound. Maybe he just hated playing for Torts in Loserville, Ohio and didn’t like living in Canadian Siberia. Shocking for a 24 year old.

Could make the case they sold high on Vilardi too, guy shot 19% last season.

Kings running with PLD, Danault, and Kopitar down the middle is pretty deep. And they’ve essentially prepared themselves to reduce Kopitars role going forward, with him being a UFA after this season.

Laf for 5OA?
If Gorts offered the 5th at the draft and I'm there to see it personally, my gawd, my poor wife will see me act the fool. Again.
Laf is worth more to the Rangers than any pick other than 1 this year. This is a win now team and him blossoming at a small cap hit is far more valuable than any non Bedard magic beans.

You guys are lost in the sauce.
Fantilli and Carlsson are better than Laf right now.

LA wins this deal. PLD is signed from his 25th bday until his 33rd bday. Off the books at 34. That’s virtually perfect. He’s a 6’4 center who is coming off back to back 60+ point years with room to grow. The cap likely goes up a year or two into his deal. He definitely can be a point per game player in LA, but even at 65 points he’s the best piece in the deal. Kupari is on pace to be Kapanen, Iafallo is in the deal for cap purposes and Vilardi is a year younger with less than half the resume. There’s a lot of copium going around because so many people bought the PLD is a cancer narrative when he was 22 and showed some immaturity reacting to Torts’ coaching methods.

Ready for your mind to be blown?

Last season was PLD's career high with 63 pts in 73 games.
He put up 16 even strength goals and 24 even strength assists. He put up 40 pts at even strength

Last season was Chytil's career high with 45 pts in 74 games
He put up 19 even strength goals and 21 even strength assists. He put up 40 pts at even strength.

Also remember PLD is now 25, chytil is 23. Meaning Chytil has more room to grow.

Yeah… because I don’t require daily injections of copium to get through my life, this HFNYR obsession with EV stats does absolutely nothing for me - certainly not blow my mind. The two kids are less than 1.5 years apart in age. One has scored 48-63 points 5x (one being his rookie season, and otherwise hasn’t been below 49 in 70 games aside from a short season). One just touched 45 on the nose once, this past season. You think PLD doesn’t have room to grow?

PLD turned 25 yesterday, Chytil turns 24 in 2 months. They’re barely a year apart. One is WAY ahead.

There is virtually zero question PLD is the better player and asset. Former top 5 pick, living up to, has the size, the skill, the production. Has improved in the dot to be as good as any of our centers. Im SO glad Fil had 40 EV points. Woot woot. It’s a good thing PLD didn’t have to earn PP time and was just given it. It’s not like he had guys like Connor, Scheifele, Wheeler, Ehlers, Morrisey, and to compete with either. Basically just got that time by default.

Which guy would you rather have on the Rangers at their cap hit considering neither is PP1?

That's why the Chytil contract is Drury at his best.

Circumstantial - obviously at current we can’t afford PLD. Had we acquired him at the cost of Chytil 3 years ago, not added Trochek because of that, and just re-signed him to the same 8x8.5 I’m taking PLD at 8.5 over Chytil and Trochek at 11, personally.
