Will the Rangers find a taker for Goodrow's contract without attaching assets or taking back some toxic junk? Trade him for free or buy him out.

$200,000 cap credit next season. $100,000 cap credit in 24-25. $1.15M cap hit in 25-26 when the salary cap will be $92M. The Rangers have $610K bonus overage this summer so an extra $500K is not that much. The current CBA expires after the third season of the buyout. The big cap hit is in year 4 at $3.65M when the salary cap could be in the $95M-$100M range. That's a small sacrifice for cap flexibility in the first three seasons of the buyout.

The 5% increases are baked in.

I think the ability to buyout Goodrow is at least on the table. It's a nice backup option

Lets be clear, Kakko and Laf are putting up close to 40 points at even strength.
Kakko had as many even strength goals as Draisaitl.

I’ll agree that our rw depth is lacking but again, not a bottom 10 team roster.

Chytil and Zadina looked really good in the wjc. And maybe with a change of scenery and giving Zadina some actual talent to play with will help him progress, and he’s cheap af for the next 2 years.
kudos top half

As to C + Z,
wonder if we owed Trouba a favor to waive 1 yr early
what kind of a deal could we do for
Trouba ++
for
Zadina

still want to see kid line retained
but
add Z and see how high offers are for LaF

Canuck fans seem very interested in trading us the 11th overall for Schneider, am I crazy for thinking that would be a great deal for us? Lol

One of them even posted this proposal

Goodrow
Schneider
Adam Edstrom

for

11th overall
Beauvillier (25% retained)

We shed Goodrows contract for free and get a retained Beauvillier who is far better than Goodrow lol
All day.

Take Perreault 11th overall and Simashev 23rd and that's a home run of a first round.

It's clear to me now that Zadina is the true subject in Jovo's prophecy.

Someone with the actual ability to descend from the rafters since he isn't light as a feather and won't get blown over the Atlantic mild breeze.

Filip Zadina IS THE CHOSEN ONE.

This is hyperbole...

21-22 @ 22 years old
+2.7 CF% rel @ 5v5 in 74 games
24 points in 74 games (16 at ES)
14:11 TOI

22-23 @ 23 years old (after coming back from injury)
+4.8 CF% rel
7 points in 30 games played (7 at ES)
13:06 TOI

I'm not sure he will ever be a ppg player but do the Rangers need that? WOuldn't it be nice to continue his development into a nice positive possession RWer who scores 40-50 points?
What were his most common linemates?
Detroit isn’t exactly loaded with stars up front and I’m interested in his shot, not his ability to drive play.
Put him with panarin and see how many goals he can score in a role similar to how we’ve used fast and Blackwell

We do have good center depth.

Kreider is great and Panarin is...fine.

Lafreniere and Kakko are 40 point player in the highest scoring NHL in 30 years.

Our second-best RW (after Kakko and his 40 points) is the spirit of Rod Gilbert.

Those last two are the obvious areas for improvement.

Panarin is far more than "fine"

Without this we miss the playoffs entirely

It looks like last year he had:
73.9 minutes with Sundqvist-Suter-Zadina
59.4 minutes with Zadina-Veleno-Berggren
30.3 minutes with Zadina-Veleno-Luff
21.8 minutes with Perron-Copp-Zadina
16 minutes with Raymond-LArkin-Zadina
14.1 minutes with Kubalik-Veleno-Zadina

21-22
148.4 minutes with Fabbri-Suter-Zadina
118 minutes with Erne-Rasmussen-Zadina
87.2 minutes with Raymond-LArkin-Zadina
70.8 minutes with Vrana-Suter-Zadina
65.7 minutes with Erne-Suter-Zadina
36.1 minutes with Suter-Veleno-Zadina

The other thing this is sowing me is that after coming back from injury and probably being behind last year, the team couldn't find a spot for him. They were bounding him back and forth from RW to LW to find him minutes it would appear. We've seen how difficult that can be on some players in NY.

Jokes aside, the biggest issue with Zadina is that he cannot finish at all.

But to @NYR Viper 's point, his underlying numbers were pretty positive across the board. Almost all of Detroit's players were worse with out him than with him 5v5. His most common line mates were Suter and Veleno.

If the Rangers accepted the 11th pick for Schneider, think the goal would be to get Michkov then somehow.

NHL owners playing heads I win tails you lose yet again.

Add another 2 franchises for the expansion fee (conveniently not HRR). f*** it, let's get to 50 teams. Who gives a damn if it means you will be lucky to see your team win a Cup once or twice in your lifetime.

I dont think anyone has an issue with Panarin's regular season

Panarin himself isn't even 'happy' with his play. This is where I differentiate from everyone else though. I truly believe Panarin cares, is coachable and has those other gears to kick into..

He was able to finish at every other level but the NHL. When I have seen him play, it hasn't been a lack of ability or skill. I think he is prime for a bit of a breakout. Again, maybe not 70 points, but I could see 40-50 points if given an opportunity.

Damn. How the f*** did that happen? Like all the sudden? Not a single person was reporting about this and every reputable news outlet had huge jumps coming. Now out of f***ing nowhere there is only a 5% increase, regardless of revenue?

Who is doing the math for this league? I don't trust anything they say about their revenue since it is all done by their internal team. Only place in sports where 2+2 equals less money for the players. Haha

So the goal of the whole moa was to get the owners paid back AND get rid of escrow.
So that’s likely why they’re pushing the cap down.
But at the end of the deal if the owners have more than 50% there’s likely some level of repayment clause.

But I’m now worried about the cba expiring more than anything else.
The Covid moa was the only negotiation or extension that hasn’t resulted in any missed games.

This is on the players as much as it is the owners. The players agreed to this shit.

yeah he had a bad 7 game sample, probably because his team could not get the goddamn puck up the ice

really? a bad 7 game sample? last postseason doesn't count?

every Playoffs is a small sample. When you're the 2nd highest player in the league you can't afford to have 'bad samples' 2 playoffs in a row at 5v5.

he was absolutely playing injured in 21-22 and both of his linemates were confirmed as injured. he still kicked ass on the PP.
